Bourbon Street Jam Electric Bass - Black

You know the sound. It is that bass sound with solid lows and bright mids and highs, that tend to pop to the front of the mix. It is favored by artists as diverse as Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Geddy Lee (Rush), Frank Bello (Anthrax), Mel Schacher (Grand Funk Railroad), Robbie Shakespeare (The Wailers), Jaco Pastorius (Weather Report), and Robert Trujillo (Metallica). Now you can get the same type of sound with this Bourbon Street Jam Electric Bass guitar from Monoprice!

This bass guitar feature two single-coil pickups, which helps give it a brighter sound and makes it ideal for slap playing. It is constructed of basswood, with a bolt-on maple neck, and rosewood fretboard. The nut is 43mm wide. It features a separate volume control for each pickup and a single tone control, allowing you to balance the output of each pickup to produce the exact tone you want.

The bass is fitted with medium strings (.045, .065, .080, .105) and has been professionally setup by Master Luthier Roger Gresco, so it is ready to play right out of the box. It comes with a 5mm sponge gig bag and a truss wrench.

    Excellent Bass!

Pros: Very solid and respectable instrument. Well-finished and plays very well right out of the box.

Cons: In my experience, I can't name one. I know others have had a little to say here, but I have no problems at all.

I love it. Finish is near flawless, setup is very good, pickups are quiet, hardware feels solid, tone is fab. For the money, absolutely can't beat this instrument. I even had a little trouble with not being home with a signature required delivery and I called to request a waiver-customer service was right on top of it, informing the delivery co I was OK with dropping it, and it was re-delivered within a handful of minutes. Outstanding!

Well, you can't beat the price! Lots of minor setup issues, string buzz, etc. Finish is impeccable.

    Really happy with it

Pros: sound - I found the tone of this bass to be simply excellent. I have taken it a few places and played it against MIM, and MIA jazzes and most everyone agrees they liked mine better. take that with a grain of salt. I feel I got truly lucky.
fit and finish - It was what I expected out of the instrument. There are a few finish flaws. None of them worth complaining about. I was surprised to find that the neck and head we a single piece of maple. I find the bass a pleasure to play.

Bridge - nice high mass bridge

Cons: The tuners were pretty bad for me. While tuning up 2 of the pegs would pop and lose their tuning. I had to be really really gentle to get them to tune. They did not hold the tuning well.

The strings were terrible. the would not hold a tune for more then a few minutes. I replaced them with some flats and I am really happy with the tone and play-ability now.

Setup - the setup was not great. With a little adjustment I am pretty happy. not the lowest action but more then acceptable to me. Fret ends need some love, but I once again expected it for the cost.

Bridge - the resting place for the string ball end is too small to get them to rest in the bridge. they are secure, but the ball end doesn't rest in the holder.

Over all I am really happy with the instrument. I replaced the tuners and the strings. I expected to do both. I expected to also change out the pickups and am really surprised I do not feel that is at all needed. In fact I think if I did I would regret it. the bridge is more of a visual annoyance then anything functional with my con.

If you are starting out or looking for something to toy with. I can think of a better starting point honestly.

A great bass for the $$

I needed a good 4 string to teach my students. My main bass is a Tobias 5 string... The Monoprice Jazz bass is higher in quality and with better pickups and lighter weight than the Mex Fenders that are 4x as much.....

    Pros: Better than expected

    Cons: None*

*Disclaimer:I am not a bass player but a professional keyboardist looking to try something new. I picked up Rocksmith 2014 along with a couple monoprice guitars and, more recently, this bass to get my feet wet.

This is a solid piece of equipment. It has held its tuning with the original stings for the past two weeks and is a blast to play. The outer packaging arrived a bit dinged up but the contents were fine as they've packed this really well. I'm very happy with this purchase.
