Xbox One® Play & Charge Kit

So you bought the new Xbox One® and were dismayed to find a pack of AA batteries for your controller. Then when you saw that the price tag for a single rechargeable battery pack was about half the cost of a new game, the AAs started to look like the better choice, right? Well, the rechargeable battery is still the better choice and getting this Xbox One Play & Charge Kit from Monoprice is the best choice yet!

This battery pack is designed specifically to fit the Xbox One controller. It features a capacity of 650mAh. which is enough for up to 6 hours of continuous gaming. Additionally, it can be used while charging, so when it gets low, just plug it in and play on!

Unlike the Playstation® 3 controllers, which can only be charged when plugged into the Playstation system, this battery pack can be charged from any USB power source that is capable of putting out at least 200mA of power, which includes almost every USB port, charger, and external battery charger ever made.

The battery pack uses a USB micro-B connector for power and comes with a 19" USB A male to USB micro-B male cable.

Note: For best results and the longest battery life, this battery should be fully charged and discharged about 3-6 times before doing a partial charge or simultaneous play/charge.

    Pros: None

    Cons: Everything. Defective garbage.

Tried to charge it overnight with a USB charger that I use on cellphone and xbox controller.
The battery got unusually hot. Plugged it in and the controller would not turn on.
Spend the extra money and buy the original.

Pros: Despite other reviews, I seem to get about 5-8 hours from a single charge. I was quite surprised given they're only 650mAh. Since most game sessions only last about 2-4 hours, I've rarely run into an issue having it die on me mid-play. Since you can charge them while on the controller, I just plug it back in when I'm done, so it's fresh the next time I play.

Another advantage is that you can charge them while playing. So if it does die on you, just plug it back in (assuming you have a long enough USB cable). Despite this, I think just buying a 2nd is more favorable..

Cons: Not sure if this is bad, but they are an extremely tight fit. The first few times taking them out I was concerned I'd break something, or damage my controller having to use a knife to pry it out. But it gets better after some use. Also, the charging port is on the bottom, w

I see Monoprice now sells a 2000mAh version now for $12.99, so it would seem kind of pointless to buy this model given it has less than 1/3 the capacity for only $3 less. I only purchased mine about 3 months ago and don't remember seeing them, which is kind of upsetting given the profoundly larger capacity for basically the same price

Bought 2 of these when I got my xbox. I'd considered using rechargeable batteries, but I'm kinda lazy and get annoyed having to frequently replace them. They only got 4 stars because despite working well, they still have a very low capacity.

    Pros: Cheap!

    Cons: Short battery life
    Tips easily break off
    Not built to last

    Again, super cheap!

I have 4 of these now (one was a replacement) all but one has yet to have the tips (they fit into the controller to help hold in place) not broken yet. the first one broke off into the controller (shake/rattle). The good is, even if broken (tips) the batteries still stay in place and do not fall out of the controller.

Short battery life, i believe this is part issue of the battery with the help of the xbox controller needed so much juice especially with using a wired headset.

One of the four of my batteries is actually falling apart now, but it actually still works.

    Buyer beware.

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the issues experienced with PID 11158. If I may ask, how long do the batteries last before needing to be charged again? Has the battery life been like this since the kits were first received? Also, are you able to send me pictures of the broken units? If so, please email them to me at . I will be submitting a complaint on this kit so our product team can look into resolving these issues.

Also, if you would like, I can assist you in setting up an RMA for replacements. We cover this product with a one year warranty and obtaining the replacements would be of no additional cost to you. If you wish to proceed with the RMA, please let me know how many replacements were needed exactly and I can get that started right away. My apologies for the trouble and I hope this helps!
