Most Frustrating Head Ever Made... Russian Roulette for Your Ears!

Pros: Great packaging, appears to be made of quality materials.

When the headset actually stays on and is working without static, the audio quality is quite good.

Cons: Headset is completely unusable unless you are willing to keep resetting it during gameplay and don't mind eardrum shattering high-decibel static pops occurring randomly.

I bought this headset originally last fall for a Christmas gift to myself. Had it for a few weeks before I could open it and actually use it as it was sitting under my tree. When I finally got to take it for a spin on Christmas day, you can imagine my disappointment when I started having issues from the moment I connected it to my PC. I reluctantly RMA'd my first set and waited for a new pair. Once they came in a few weeks later I had the EXACT same issues. This headset simply doesn't work properly.

    Issues experienced:
    1. Random Digital Static when connected to PC. All computer sounds coming through the headset simply sounded extremely digitized and staticy. This was seemingly resolved by not using a USB3 port. I've not had this problem reoccur while using USB2. Oddly enough, even on USB3 it would work sometimes, then 10-15 minutes later while listening to music at a normal volume, the headset would pop extremely loudly and blast nothing but static. I tried installing new USB audio drivers, new mobo audio drivers... nothing fixed this problem other than simply not connecting it though USB3.

    2. While connected to USB2 and working fine, the headset will simply turn itself off after about 10-20 minutes. Battery is fully charged after a whole night of charging. You can simply turn the set back on and it will continue working for another 20 or so minutes before it just shuts off again. It is not disconnecting from the receiver, rather the headset itself just randomly powers off. Then just as randomly, it will stay on for the next 5 hours with no issues before randomly powering off again. It makes no sense.

    3. When seemingly working properly, connected to Mumble, my party will report that I sound like a robot after 30-45 minutes. The mic quality initially in a session is amazing. Friends say I sound great, then *snap* I sound like a robot. I simply turn the set off then back on and the problem is fixed temporarily until it happens again. This is completely unacceptable. Other buyers have reported this issue as well with the Monoprice Admin usually responding with "I will report this to the product team".

I love Monoprice. I've bought TONS of stuff off this site and will continue to do so as it's often the best deal around... but this headset was a swing and a miss for them. Read through the rest of the reviews. Literally everyone has had these problems.

To the Monoprice Admin: This product should be removed from the store. It's not right to toy with gamers' emotions by offering a headset like this at a great price and have it be such an utter disappointment. How many complaints do you need before you believe it's a terrible product? Your returns department must be commanding lots of overtime pay as seemingly everyone who has purchased this set has had to return it at least once...

    trouble with Xbox One

    Pros: Audio seems OK

Cons: Mic would not work with Xbox One.

We connected toslink, usb, and hdmi per instructions, then paired with kinect disconnected (so as not to use kinect mic), but the mic would not work with the stereo headset adapter using a 3.5mm (both ends) wire. My son said he can hear his friends on the headphones, but they can't hear him. The little red circle that says a mic is active on the system was not bold. We tried a 3 ring 3.5mm connector and a 2 ring 3.5mm connector neither worked.

    by Monoprice Administrator

My apologies for the mic issues experienced with this headset. Just to verify, are you using the 3.5mm cable supplied with this headset? If so, that is mainly intended for Xbox 360 controllers as they have a 2.5mm input. However, we should be able to get this setup to work with that cable. What I recommend doing is connecting the 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter cable that is included with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter directly to the headset. From there, please plug in the 2.5mm end of the headset's included cable into that adapter, then connect the 3.5mm end into the Stereo Headset Adapter. I have seen a setup where connecting the 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter to the controller side did not work at all. However, when the adapter went into the headset, the mic worked fine. Please let me know your results from there. Sorry again for the trouble and I hope this helps!

Loosing some of the texture, no volume control from PC

After 6 months of use, I've noticed that the texture that is applied to the plastic to make if feel velvety is starting to flake off. Particularly around the band that goes between the earpieces. I keep finding pieces in my hair.

I have this set attached to my PC, and I've noticed that I can't control the volume from my PC. Adjusting the volume from the Volume control panel on Windows has no impact. I can still use the volume on the headset itself, it's just a minor annoyance.

    Pros: looks nice

Cons: mic buzzes a lot, and the battery completely died and I've only had the headset for 2 weeks and it wont even turn on.

so i have had this headset for 2 weeks at first look it was cool nice packaging and then i used the mic with my friends online and every 5 minutes the microphone would begin buzzing and hurting my friends ears and i would have to reset the headset. So now the batter completely died and will not hold a charge i have been charging the headset for 12 hours and it wont even turn on and it's not charged yet ether.

    Hi Jeremy,

Thank you for your review on PID 12171. I truly apologize for the buzzing and charge issues experienced with this headset. If I may ask, which console(s) have you tried this headset with thus far? Has the buzzing occurred since the headset was first received? Is the charge indicator glowing red when attempting to charge the headset? Can we try swapping out the Micro USB cable? Can we also try charging with a different USB power source? Also, has the headset ever charged properly within the two weeks of use?

Please let me know if the problems still occur. If they do, I can assist you in obtaining a replacement to see if it will work better or a return RMA. We cover this headset with a one year warranty and obtaining a replacement is of no additional cost. If you want to continue with an RMA, please provide the information requested above and let me know if you wanted to return the headset or obtain a replacement. Thank you!

i have multiple usb cables and have tried them and yes the red light comes on when pluged in it does attempt to charge and the buzzing did occur from the moment i got it and i only use it for pc because i do not have an xbox one or ps4 and yes the headset has been charged properly every time i charged it. Obtaining a replacement would be fantastic if at all possible the buzzing occurred when using skype i don't know if that helps determine why it buzzes but i figured i would throw that in there.
