2Bay USB 3.0 DAS Button Tray RAID Enclosure - Black

Are you thinking about installing an ultrafast RAID array, but you either have a laptop, don't want to open up your PC, and/or don't want to mess with drivers and complicated configurations? Monoprice has the answer to your needs in the form of this 2-bay 3.5" HDD USB 3.0 RAID Enclosure!

This RAID enclosure is perfect for increasing data throughput speed using the RAID 0 striping mode, for increasing data security using the RAID 1 mirror mode, or as an easy way to add a pair of external drives using the JBOD "just a bunch of drives" mode. It supports two 3.5" SATA II (3.0 Gbps) drives up to 3TB each and has even been tested with the latest Hitachi 4TB drives for up to 8TB of storage using the RAID 0 mode.

This aluminum enclosure is completely self-contained, with everything needed to connect to a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer using a USB cable (included), except the drives themselves, of course. It has a built-in 70 watt power supply, which provides 12 VDC and 5 VDC power levels from any 100 ~ 240 VAC power source and a 60mm fan to keep things cool.

It features an energy (and drive) saving standby mode, which is automatically activated when the connected PC is put into "sleep" or "standby" mode. Drive installation is made easier with the ability to hot swap drives in and out of the system without turning off either the enclosure or the connected PC. Most importantly, it contains all the controllers, drivers, and software needed to operate and maintain the RAID array, making RAID installation and configuration as simple and easy as it can possibly be.

    As expected, easy set up

Pros: No frills easy set up

Cons: As a previous reviewer mentioned, it's a touch noisy if it was sitting on my desk, but i have it hidden away somewhere out of sight

A pretty solid device. I got 2x hitachi drives in there for a RAID 1 setup, zero problems. I'll come back to mention if i encounter any issues in the future. This was exactly what I wanted, a non-NAS device. Thank you monoprice for selling it :) The few others i've found did not seem reliable.

    Pros: Works as expected

    Cons: Loud fan

The device works well. It accepted 4TB WD Red drives without issue. The fan however is quite loud. Having purchased a 3D printer from monoprice with the same order. I went about in creating a new fan shroud for this device to accept an ultra quiet fan. Here is a link to the file if you wish to make your DAS silent as well. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:495177
Use caution when changing the fan, if your drives run warm/hot, you may want to consider not using the resistor or keeping the stock fan.

No network interface - how is this a NAS device?

Pros: Looks like a nice enclosure

Cons: I may be missing something, but how is this anything more than a had drive enclosure? How can you use this as network attached storage, if there's no interface to connect it directly to a network?

    Do your homework.

Thank you for your review and my apologies for the concerns you have experienced with PID 10202. Now I should mention that it is considered a DAS (direct-attached storage) which functions a little different than a NAS. This simply connects to a server or workstation directly. Hope this helps and thanks again for your review!
