Duracell 400 Lumen Multi Light Lantern

This Duracell branded lantern is ideal for camping or as an emergency light during power outages. It consists on three outer light columns, each of which is rated for 150 lumens, and a central column, which is rated for 100 lumens. As a unit, it produces a minimum of 400 lumens when viewed from any side of the triangular shaped lantern assembly.

Each light column is individually powered by three AA batteries (included) and has its own power switch, so you can easily control how much light is produced. Additionally, each light has three beam settings: High intensity, Low intensity, and Blinking.

Each outer light column can be removed from the assembly for individual use. The light assembly measures about 10.8" tall and 6.2" from corner to corner. The individual light columns measure about 1.4" in diameter and 8.1" long.

    • Three removable light columns, plus a single central column
    • Produces minimum 400 lumens from any side
    • Three beam settings: High, Low, Blinking
    • Individual power switches for each light column
    • Powered by 12 AA batteries, three for each light column
    • Includes Duracell brand batteries

When the lantern arrived I had no problems installing the batteries and checking operation. I do want to agree with prior review re the need to step through all options to extinguish the light.
Everything was fine with the product with the exception of one of the three removable lights had a problem, only the lower end of the light tube (about 20%) illuminated when turned on. Not being familiar with the technology of the device I couldn't see a way to deal with the problem myself and called the customer service number and explained to a very nice lady my problem. She assured me that she would speak to the people concerned and get back to me. She did and the corrective action is underway. I'm impressed with the service and the product.

Pros: Bright light source with all 3 sticks and base station on high
3 individual light sources plus the base station
Light sticks are great individually to light up a room on their own in a power outage

    Cons: Thin injection molded plastic
One button to cycle through off, low, high and flash modes. So you will always go through flash mode.
    No directed beam flashlight ability

OK, you know when you watched Star Trek TNG and they had cool things on it? This lantern is one of those things. It's a bright lantern composed of a base and three Individual lighted sticks you can pull off and use on their own. We struggled through 11 days in Texas with no power a few years ago because of hurricane Ike. We had battery powered lanterns, but this is a step above. Path and room filling illumination available at all times without blacking out the place you just left. I can't speak to durability as I just received this. It does seem a little "flimsy" with a thin injection molded frame, but as long as you don't throw it around, that should be fine. The only real negative I see is that the individual sticks create 360* lighting but don't have the option to shine in a directed beam like a flashlight. The 360* lighting seems very useful for lighting while inside a house or room. The lack of a directed beam is less useful outdoors. But it's more useful indoors because of this than a normal flashlight would be, so this is kind of a wash. It's more of a right tool for the right job kind of thing. So keeping that in mind, have a flashlight as well and you will have the best of both worlds when the normal lights go out....
