In-Ceiling Back Enclosure (Pair) for PID 4104 , 8" In-Ceiling Speaker
Improve the sound quality of your in-ceiling speakers using these In-Ceiling Back Enclosure from Monoprice!
This flame-resistant ABS enclosure is designed for use with the Monoprice 8-inch Fiber 2-Way In-Ceiling Speakers (PID 4104) or other speakers with the same dimensions. Using an enclosure improves bass response and the overall sound quality will be tighter and more focused.
The enclosure has pre-stripped and tinned wires inside for connecting to the speaker. On the outside it features 10mm push terminals to connect the speaker wires from the amp. It measures 9.6" in diameter and is 6.5" deep. It includes four speaker mounting screws and a piece of acoustic stuffing.
PROS: work very well and sturdy
CONS: a little tricky to install, directions could be a little clearer
Once my installation was done I used the test tone on my Denon to make sure they were wired right then fired up the Hulk buster scene from the Avengers. These speakers were far more than I expected them to be and the enclosure made the sound really nice. I cant say for sure that they improved the sound over no enclosure but my surrounds sound great. I would recommend the enclosure.
PROS: perfect fit
PROS: Work well with proper Monoprice speakers
Connections seem OK to me
CONS: No instructions telling me where to use the included insulation
PROS: Very heavy duty material. I like the pass through connectors. Speedy shipping and about $30 cheaper than what my local guy wanted.
I subtracted 1 star for having to add additional acoustic material and also for the thin internal jumper wire.
PROS: 1. Build Quality
2. Sound Quality (with supplemental acoustic treatment material)
CONS: 1. The internal jumper wiring is thin (20AWG?). Could be easily upgraded, except the connectors were epoxied onto the posts.
2. Speaker terminals will barely accommodate 14AWG speaker wire.
Downsides are there were no instructions on where to put the insulation pad (I just centered them over the back of the speaker which I think is about the only place that makes sense), I also use high quality 12 gauge monoprice speaker wire as it runs a long distance, and it didn't fit in the push terminals. I eventually kind of got the wire crammed in there enough and the speakers work, but this was a disappointment to say the least and at some point I'll probably need to reseat the wire using an 'upgauging' band-aid to fit properly in the terminal. Also, the interior wires that connect from the enclosure to the speaker should be a lower gauge wire as well. They are really thin!
PROS: Good housing for the 4104. Insulates and focuses sound. Solid plastic enclosure. Good idea.
When putting these on the 4104 speaker, the housing didn't really line up quite properly until I had all the screws in and tightened. Don't be surprised if it looks like the enclosure is just slighly off from fitting exactly- but don't worry. Once the screws tighten it fits perfectly.
CONS: Terminals aren't large enough to fit low gauge wire.. If someone's buying these they care about sound and quality and may likely have a lower gauge setup.
Cables connecting enclosure to speaker are too high a gauge IMHO, Should be better quality.
No instructions as to what to do with the insulation.
Didn't detect a huge difference in sound quality, but it all in all sounds good and focuses the sound in the right area.
Keeps sounds from being heard above the room
CONS: Push connector is junk
Wire is junk
I've talked with Customer Service twice. Both times they have argued with me about the word "dimensions", trying to say that the description is correct. Just change your description to be more specific so someone else doesn't order these for PID4929 or other 8 inch speaker.
PROS: Look nice, solid quality
CONS: Would expect these to fit another 8 inch Monoprice speaker unless specifically told it doesn't.
So, so close but the corner of the crossover board does not clear the edge of the enclosure.
Due to this I purchased a useless product, but I hope this saves others from making my mistake.
PROS: Build seems good
CONS: Does not work with the Energy 8" in-ceiling speakers
