6ft MHL 13-pin to HDMI Passive Cable for Samsung Android Devices (Zn-Alloy Metal Housing)

Step into the latest and greatest in mobile video connectivity using this MHL® 3 compatible MHL 13-pin to HDMI® Passive Cable from Monoprice!

MHL allows you to connect your Android™ mobile phone or tablet to your HDMI equipped HDTV and enjoy full high-definition video and audio. Earlier versions of MHL supported resolutions up to 1920x1080p (1080p), but MHL 3 now supports 4K video at up to 30 frames per second. It also supports a bidirectional high-speed data channel and improved Remote Control Protocol, allowing your to control your mobile device using your TV's remote control.

This passive MHL cable features a proprietary 13-pin micro USB connector, which is designed for use with the Samsung Galaxy® line of smartphones and tablets. The 13-pin MHL connector was first introduced on the Galaxy S®4, but is backwards compatible with the older 11-pin connector used on the Galaxy SIII.

The Ultra Slim zinc-alloy design results in an HDMI connector head that measures only 15.0mm wide and 7.1mm thick. The micro USB connector measures only 8.5mm wide and 5.8mm thick, allowing it to fit most phones and tablets without the need to remove the protective case. The zinc-alloy construction provides protection against RF and electromagnetic interference, thereby improving the cable's performance.

The MHL 3.0 specifications include the following features:

    • 4K (Ultra HD): Support for 4K formats up to 2160p30
    • Simultaneous high-speed data channel
    • Improved Remote Control Protocol (RCP) with support for peripherals such as a touch screen, keyboard and mouse
    • Power charging up to 10W
    • Backward compatible with MHL 1 and MHL 2
    • Latest HDCP 2.2 content protection
    • Enhanced 7.1 surround sound with Dolby® TrueHD™ and DTS®-HD Master Audio™
    • 13-pin micro USB proprietary connector design for Samsung Galaxy devices
    • For use with MHL-equipped Samsung Galaxy devices only
    • Support for simultaneous multiple displays

Note that for this cable to work properly, it MUST be plugged into an MHL-enabled HDMI port, such the HDMI/MHL ports on our CrystalPro 28-inch 4K Monitor (PID 12156).

Pros: Pretty looking and that's about it.

Cons: Does not work on my Samsung Galaxy S5 cell phone. What a joke.

This was supposed to be specifically designed for my phone. What a joke. It does not work at all. No detection at all! I want my money back!

    Hello John,

Sorry to hear that you have experienced issues with PID 12394. I just wanted to confirm the set up. Does the display you connected the cable to have an MHL labeled HDMI port?

The reason I ask is PID 12394 is the new MHL 3, which requires the HDMI port on the display to be MHL enabled. The reason it would need an MHL-HDMI port is that when using MHL, most mobile devices require to be charging while the MHL cable is being used. The MHL-HDMI port would provide power to the mobile device connected with the MHL 3 cable.

My Phone is the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the TV is the LG 60PB6650. The TV is only 6 months old.

    Hello John,

Thank you for the information on the TV you are using. I looked into your TV and it does have an MHL labeled HDMI port. If I may ask was the cable plugged into the HDMI port that is labeled MHL?

The TV would only have one MHL enabled HDMI port which is why I ask. Looking into the manual of your TV it would be "HDMI IN 3" on the side of the TV. If it is plugged into the HDMI IN 3 MHL port and you still do not get a signal try powering down the phone while plugged into the TV then powering it back on and making sure the TV is on the correct input. If it is not working then it may be a defective cable. If that is the case then I can help set up an RMA for a refund or a replacement. Please let me know how it goes.

I just noticed that an RMA for a refund has been set up. If you still have the cable would you mind trying the above method to see if it will work.

    Pros: Looks nice

    Cons: Doesn't work

Tried it on a Note 4 and 3, and a Galaxy S5, doesn't do anything. The phone doesn't even recognize that anything is being plugged into it. Same phones and TV works with PID 8675 plus 9716, but this one it doesn't do anything, with our without the 9716 adapter. Its too bad it doesn't work as its much less bulky than 8675

Thank you for your review. Keep in mind for this item to work, you need an MHL endables HDMI port. If the TV is not capable of it, this item will not work with any MHL device. I hope this clarifies it for you, if you need to set up a return, please let me know, thank you!
