    Flawed design

    Pros: Unknown

Cons: Normal optical drives slip into the bay and are held in place with two screws on one side. The instructions for this rack say to secure this rack with two screws on each side. Because this device has springs it must be attached on both sides to hold securely. I assume the device will vibrate otherwise.

I went through my shop looking for a computer in which to install this bay. In microATX desktops I checked 1 Asus, 1 eMachine and 2 HP's. In ATX mini towers I checked 1 each of Gateway, HP and Lenovo cases plus 2 Compaq, 3 Dell and 2 standard cases. Not one had screw holes on both sides of the drive bay.

I've already burned enough time on this so I'm not going to return it. Maybe I'll find a way to jury-rig it but for now it's on the shelf.

I love Monoprice and am rarely disappointed but this product was a failure.

Pros: Love the design and concept, exactly what I needed. The door lock feature is well done! Easy to install. plus 10 for design and concept

Cons: minus 5 for my personal application. Did not work for me. I tried several different ways to make it work with no success. Perhaps it was my computer or my slightly better than most computer skills.

Pros: Pretty, indicator lights, key lock, simple.

    Cons: Noisy, odd power connector.

(I've been a system builder and repair technician for 10+ years)

Installed this in my computer for a backup drive so I can remove the drive quickly if needed, or to move the drive to another location for safe keeping. Installation was easy and the drive fits in very snugly.

Upon powering up my system, I got a nice loud hum that could be heard 2 rooms away. The "anti-vibration" mounts in fact are the opposite, they amplify the drive's natural vibration and conduct it to the rest of the computer. With the drive powered on, everything has a nice vibrating feel to it.

I upgraded this to the 10059 HDD cage, which I think is much better built, has the same features, no special power dongle, and cuts down the vibration.

Pros: ease of swapping hard drives

used different hard drives for storing different data, used to drag computer out from under desk then open computer case and swap out hard drives. But now i've installed this into where my DVD drives had been and swapping drives is a breeze. Been using 1 TB to 2 TB size drives without problems. Worked so well I bought a second one, then realized I should have bought a third one for my media player (micca) which has a short SATA cable and is difficult to see the back of for swapping drives. OK, so now i've bought a third one. The Micca can use a direct attached HDD as well as drive connected through the USB ports, I seldom turn in the USB drives but do use the direct attached drive as a network accesable drive with the Micca acting as the NAS. When I need to load large files to it I pop it out of the Mobile Rack for the Micca and pop it into the Mobile Rack in my computer. Then when finished put it back. So much easier and faster this way.

    Pros: Works well
    Low priced
    Easy install

    Cons: Construction could be better
Drive being inserted may need to be positioned well before attempting to close bay door

Hands down this purchase is a no-brainer, buy it.
That being said, I would gladly pay an extra dollar or two for a little reinforcement and redesign of the loading mechanism.
All in all though I think it's a perfect solution for me to conserve power by not spinning all my hard drives while having the information within easy reach. It also makes keeping a secure backup a piece of cake.
