Pros: Monoprice support quick to replace the defective cartridge.
    Replacement cartridge functioned much better.

Cons: Not quite perfect. FYI, I'm a 30+ year veteran of the graphic arts industry, and have a sharp eye for type.

The blotchiness disappeared with the replacement cartridge, but the type was not quite as sharp (or black) as the OEM cartridge. Also not quite as sharp (or black) as an identical remanufactured cartridge I purchased from Monoprice last year (odd, that). Still, quite usable for text and showed good results printing photos on photo paper. Lacking a better explanation as to why, I cling to my theory that the ink (which is water based) might have frozen in transit this winter and degraded. Should find out this summer if that has any application. THE BOTTOM LINE: I was about to throw away my HP Deskjet 6940 because of the high price of HP ink, but now I'm going to keep it.

    Defective ink

    Pros: Price is nice.

Cons: Works, but the ink is bad in this one.

All nozzles were functional, but the print was grayish and splotchy on paper. Small text looked fuzzed out or plugged. Oddly enough, I found an identical unopened MPI remanufactured cartridge tucked away and forgotten in the back of a shelf (interior bag still sealed). That cartridge is at least 6 months old. I removed the new cartridge and installed 6 month the old cartridge. It took a cleaning or two, but the black output is now dark and sharp, easily comparable to an HP original. Clearly the newer MPI has bad ink and older one has good ink.
It makes one wonder: why the difference? Just a bad batch of ink? We're dealing with water based ink, so I wonder if the cartridge froze during shipping. On the other hand, I ordered an MPI 97 cartridge at the same time, and they got here together. That cartridge worked fine from the very first print.

    Hello GNB,

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the issues experienced with PID 8919. Unfortunately, it appears as though you may have received a defective cartridge. If you would like, I can help setup an RMA for a replacement. Obtaining the replacement would be of no additional cost to you. If you wanted to proceed with the RMA, please let me know and I can get that started right away. Apologies again for any inconvenience and hope this helps!

    Works well, so far

Pros: Inexpensive, Seems to work as well as a genuine HP

    Cons: None yet

My OfficeJet 7410 recognized the cartridge as a refill, but it did install successfully. The print appears to be crisp and consistent. I'm hoping that it lasts nearly as long as an OEM, but that may be difficult to judge. At this point, I will continue to purchase these.

    Printer Rejects this cartridge

    Pros: Inexpensive

    Cons: doesn't seem to work

The HP print utility is telling me that this is an incompatible cartridge. The printer will not print.

Thank you for your review. And I am truly sorry to hear of your experience you have had with this product.

For now, if possible, please try a couple of troubleshooting techniques with me to see if we can resolve your issue.

Have you tried cleaning the contacts?

What about hard resetting the printer?

Have you tried using the old cartridges and reseating these ones?

Please let me know if the problems still occur. If it does, I can assist you in obtaining a replacement or a return RMA to see if a replacement will work better. We do have a lifetime warranty on cables as well as a 1 year warranty for everything else. And obtaining a replacement is of no additional cost. If you want to continue with an RMA just please provide the order# and if you wanted to return it or obtain a replacement. Thank you!

I did get the cartridge to work, but it wasn't automatic. It took a couple of tries. Cleaning the contacts on the black cartridge did make the printer recognize it, and though the blacks are the blackest, they are fine for my purposes. Thanks for your help.
