Multi-Function F-Type, RJ-12, and RJ-45 Cable Tester
Cable testing cannot get any easier than with the Monoprice EZchecker 008 Cable Tester.
This tester is a quick and easy continuity checker for RJ45 (STP and UTP), RJ11/12, and F-type and BNC Coax cables. It tests each conductor on RJ cables and instantly provides a pass or fail result, with an indication of which conductor is faulty in the event of a failure.
The tester consists of two pieces: the Master unit and the Remote Terminator, which can be detached from the Master unit by sliding it off to the right. There is no on/off switch or test button, simply connect the wires and get your result. Nothing could be easier!
WARNING!!! Do not test live circuits as it could cause damage to the tester unit or personal injury.
Note: This product has a universal card packaging that is used for PIDs 8129, 8130, and 8131, with the individual model marked on the back. The front of the packaging includes functionality tags for all three testers combined. Therefore, the packaging erroneously indicates that this tester is capable of HDMI cable testing, which it is not designed to do. For HDMI cable testing, please usePID 8131.
Also note that the back of the card indicates that this unit can test USB cables. While it is electrically capable of doing so, the necessary adapters are not included with the tester.

This is a simple tool, as the price indicates. Advanced features for detailed troubleshooting and identifying issues should look at other tools. Those tools should be used for Full Time Network Admins and Engineers.
PROS: Quick Simple
CONS: ...eh, wish it came with some short RJ-45's for checking Patch to Drop.
PROS: This is a steal at the price works great. Tests cable wire, RJ45, and Telephone wire.
PROS: Best price for a quality tester like this. Ability to test all cable types (Coaxial, Cat, telephone)
PROS: Great price, easy to use, comes with battery and case, works for multiple cable types
PROS: The device works well and is simple to use
PROS: Nice, neat compact unit easy to use.
CONS: Not always accurate. I have had it test cables and outlet connections as good but they must have been weak. Tested with another unit, showed bad. Replaced connectors and they worked fine. Too bad...otherwise I like it.
I had to carry my DSL line on pins 4 and 5 (unused for Ethernet) across the house to the router. These were soldered to an RJ-11 cable and plugged into the input on the router. The remaining 6 strands were crimped RJ-45 (maintaining the standard pin-out config) plugged into a slot on the router and sent back the other way.
The correct pin-out configuration was maintained and the wiring was straight-through . The tester would not recognize that Pins 1,2,3 and 6,7,8 were connected properly because pins 4 and 5 were not wired into the harness. The cable failed at the tester (showed no connections) but the cable was good because the router got signal and the computer connected to thje router without problem. Just an FYI in case anyone wants to try to use the unit to test individual pins - it doesn't seem to work that way. But it's not supposed to so it's not a criticism.
PROS: You need one if you're going to make cables - don't even think that you don't.
CONS: Not a multiplexer. ALL strands have to be active for it to register
PROS: Quick and easy to use.
CONS: Does not test for short or crossed lines. Therefore, if the cable shows that it passes, it may still not be ok to use.
