    Networking USB 2.0 Print Server

This palm sized 1-port USB 2.0 Print Server allows any networked computer to share a USB printer. It complies with USB 2.0 specifications (backward compatible with USB 1.1 spec.), and provides users with an auto-sensing Ethernet port that works with either 10Base-T or 100Base-T networks. This unit also supports multiple protocols and multiple operating systems,

The built-in web management feature provides more convenience by allowing the user to configure, monitor and even reset the print server via a web browser. This eliminates the need to place the printer right next to the computer. Print jobs can be sent to a printer in another country just as easily as to a printer in the same office. Why bother sending a degraded fax image while you can print an original at the destination?

Easily connect your USB printer to a network
Allows multiple computers to share one USB printer on the network
Print from any computer on your network
Supports DHCP Client and multiple network protocols
    10Base-T / 100Base-T auto-sensing
Supports Telnet and Web Management software
NOTE:  While the print functions on a compatible Multi-function printer may work, other functions such as scanning may not.

USB to LAN LPR Print Server

Pros: You will need to use the software to fiind out what IP address the server gets and to assign a static IP address if needed.

Use the Windows Add Printer Wizard to add a Network Printer. Use the IP address discovered using the software or your assigned static IP. Make sure you configure the port in Windows after the Wizard finishes and change the port config to LPR from Raw, and use port queue of 1905010001 (this queue number worked on all of my servers but you can use the included software to verify port queue). If you fail to do this it will never print.

Cons: Using the included program that comes with the server would print after waiting a few seconds (not acceptable)!

I needed a way to convert several USB Star Receipt TSP743II printers that were shared in Windows 7 to network printers to avoid Windows Sharing. These worked like a charm.

    Works! (after a power cycle..)

Pros: Works great for my Dell laser printer.

Cons: I have to power cycle it every time I want to print

Seems to work great, and cam't complain about the price, however if I don't power cycle it, it will not print. I will follow Chris's instructions on how to set it up without the cd, however how do you get/configure the IP? I'll update it to a 5 if I can figure this out..

    Hello Evan,

Thank you for your review and sorry to hear of the issues you have experienced with PID 5342. The IP would be written on the print server itself. If you wished to change that IP address you would want to log into the print server by entering the IP address into a web browser and in the settings you can adjust the IP address. Also logging into the software on the disc that came with the unit, you can change the IP address. I hope this helps.

    Not Useful

    Pros: -Setup was surprisingly easy
-Can emulate a USB device (when using the Networking USB Server tool) so can see ink levels, etc if your printer supports that

    Cons: -Disconnects ALL THE TIME
-default IP on the back is just wrong. Suggest hook it up to a network with DHCP and get the IP from the router.

Setup was fine. It can emulate a USB device using the "Networking USB Server" tool or works as a normal LPR device. Anyone who can't get it to print should try LPR instead of using the included software (there are instructions in another review). A printer must be connected for the device to show up on the network

The BIG problem with the device is that it loses the printer connection very often (and hence disappears from the network). The longest mine has worked was about 45 minutes. Even turning off power save mode on my printer did not help. A print server that requires being reset because it can't handle a USB connection is useless. I can't believe monoprice sells this. There is clearly a software configuration issue with the firmware that doesn't allow it to reconnect to devices.

Also found out it supports USB hubs for LPR connections even though the server tool says not supported. Not sure what this is useful for.

The item only works with a few printer models

I was under the assumption that this device would work with any USB printer but it doesn't . It didn't work with my printer model and I just wasted my time trying to get it to work. Do not buy this unless you look at the printer compatibility list first to verify that it will work with your printer model.
