AVStream Dual Band Wireless N Router - 600 Mbps

It seems like everything uses the 2.4GHz band - Bluetooth®, Wi-Fi®, wireless phones, remote controls, etc., etc. The 2.4GHz band is getting crowded and slowing down with all these systems competing for bandwidth. Speed up your Wi-Fi internet access to where it should be with this AVStream Dual Band Wireless-N Router from Monoprice!

This router relieves the crowding on the 2.4GHz band by adding a second channel at 5 GHz. Your existing 2.4GHz Wi-Fi equipment can still connect at the 2.4GHz band, while your newer Wi-Fi equipment will be able to connect on the 5 GHz band.

This router includes three 10/100Mbps ports for direct connections and one dedicated IPTV port, which provides prioritized bandwidth for video streaming devices. Wirelessly, it provides up to 300Mbps throughput on each of the two wireless bands. The router combines the functions of a Wireless Access Point (AP), Router, Switch, and Firewall.

The router supports a number of advanced features, including support for a guest network, hidden/invisible SSID, and MAC-based access control. Wireless access can be easily configured using the WPS one-touch setup procedure.

I've been using a few of these for use with digital audio mixers and haven't had much trouble in that capacity. Sure the antennas tend to break because it's not really the right package for that use but... Today I'm trying to use this as a backup for a failed router @ the office & I'm having trouble logging in. I changed the IP address and now it won't let me log back in with the user name and password. It seems like it's accepting the credentials but just stays on the same page. If I type in the wrong credentials it gives me a warning in red type at the top. When I try to download the manual from the Monoprice site I A) Can't find it easily. Why isn't there a link on the product page? B) From the downloads section of the site I get a 404 error when clicking on what appears to be the correct item.

    Cons: Slow internet connections

With laptop connected to internet using LAN connection the speed is 80 MBPS. When connected using the 2.4 GHz the speed drops to 12 MBPS, and 8MBPS when attached thru the 5.0GHx connection. Speed was checked using FAST.COM

    Pros: Range, Speed

    Cons: Setup, Firmware

I've tried everything including "hard reset" multiple times, and keep getting "invalid user name or password".
No idea what could be the problem, but as it is I am unable to set up this router properly, and my internet is vulnerable to anyone as it remains 'open'.
Othewise, it seems to be a decent product and has plenty of speed, range and features.

    Hello Randall,

Thank you for your review and sorry to hear of the issues you are experiencing with PID 9919. When entering into a web browser, the default username and password should be admin. If that does not work try entering admin as the username but see if you leave the password empty if it allows you to log in. I hope this helps.

I'm going to have to replace it if they don't do firmware upgrade

    Pros: Performs its intended functions

Cons: It's a tool for criminals to perform a DDoS attack.

Like other recent reviewers, I received notification from my cable company today that my router has an Open DNS Resolver. This means that a hacker or criminal on the internet can use this router to send excessive web traffic to a website to cause it to crash (a denial of service attack). There is no way in the router's setting to change or disable this.

A simple firmware upgrade would fix the problem. I am going to have to replace it if they don't do a firmware upgrade.

I would recommend that everyone avoid this router until this issue is resolved.

If they could get this issue resolved, I would rate this router a 10, but for now it's a 1. I'm not a fan of helping out criminals.

    Hello Ben,

Unfortunately we would not have a firmware update. A few things we recommend is double checking that your operating system is fully up to date with all security updates. We strongly recommend checking the computer for any viruses and making sure that the anti-virus program is up to date as well. Also check to see that the DNS settings on the computer have not been changed and are set to automatically obtain.

You can find those setting under Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> View network status and tasks -> then click the connection type. If you are using a wired connection you would click where it says Local Area Connection. Then you will click Properties and scroll down and click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click properties. Here is where you would make sure it is set to automatically obtain the DNS server address.

After verifying these things reset the router to factory settings by holding the reset button on the router for 30 secs. Afterwords check http://openresolver.com and find your external IP address for your service (you can find this by typing "whatismyip" in Google) and type the IP address in the form then clicking the "Test this IP" button. The test will show green if it is all good or red if it still has issue. If that doesn't resolve the issue, I would recommend getting in contact with us so we can further assist. I apologize for any inconvenience and I hope this helps.

    Firmware upgrade?

Pros: Wireless works great and the options of the 2.4 network and the 5.0 network keep things from getting bogged down with all the wireless devices we have in the house. .

Cons: Less than 6 months after getting the router our cable company started sending notices of an open DNS server. Kept looking for fixes online but nothing worked. Still getting notices and warnings from cable company. Frustrated Monoprice does not have an answer for this yet.

Great device and reasonable price. I have purchased many things from Monoprice in the past and have been very pleased. However, I'm going to have to purchase a new N router and because of the lack of ability to upgrade firmware with Monoprice, I will be buying one from somewhere else.

Thank you for your review, we do get firmware updates on our devices, but not for this particular one at the moment. I will let you know when we do, thank you!
