Mini DisplayPort 1.1 to HDMI®, DVI & DisplayPort Adapter, Black

When your MacBook® needs to connect to a variety of different display types, you need this multifunction adapter from Monoprice!

This adapter has a mini DisplayPort (mDP) connector on one end for connecting to the output of your MacBook, MacBook Pro®, MacBook Air®, or any other device with an mDP output. The other end has DisplayPort (DP), HDMI®, and DVI output ports, allowing you to connect to a single display using either of these standards. This adapter saves you the hassle and expense of purchasing and transporting different adapters with your MacBook because this one adapter fits all the primary standards you are likely to encounter in your travels.

Note that this will not connect more than one display at a time. Only a single display can be connected to one of the outputs.

    Features:

    • Supports Mini DisplayPort 1.1a "Dual-Mode" input
    • Supports audio output over HDMI for iMac® (from Late 2009 on) and MacBook Pro (from Mid 2010 on)
    • Supports DisplayPort 1.1a "Dual-Mode" output with a maximum resolution of 2560x1600

    • Automatically detects the connected display type
    • Powered by the Mini DisplayPort input

This adapter does NOT a support Dual-Link DVI output. It supports Dual-Mode DisplayPort (up to 2560x1600), but only Single-Link DVI (up to 1920x1080p).

Fantastic adapter! (Not AMD Eyeview Compatible)
This is a very inexpensive adapter that is great for not only Macbooks. You can use this with anything that has a mini displayport port. For instance, I use this with my Asus G750 and Microsoft Surface Pro 3!

    PROS: Very inexpensive

    Well made

    Has multiple different outputs.

    CONS: Not active.

Can only hook up one output at a time (fairly expected)

works fine with my dell and give me a second monitor
My dell latitude has a mini display port and HDMI input. Since I have 2 monitors, I have one monitor connected my HDMI and the other monitor connected with the mini display port converter

PROS: cheap and quick delivery (since I'm in CA)

    CONS: none so far

Works Fine on Surface Pro 3
It works fine, and price is very reasonable.

PROS: Otherwise it works fine on my Surface 3 Pro.

CONS: I wish the cable from the device was longer so the tangle of wires wasn't on my desk. That's the only reason I subtracted a star.

Works as advertised but I get random black screen of 1-2 seconds
I've had this product for several years. Works as advertised but since day 1, I get random black screen of 1-2 seconds. Tried with both a Dell E6400 and a Lenovo T430 to a V7 D22W12-N6

PROS: Solid construction, several output options (minus D-Sub)

CONS: I get that random and annoying 1-2 second black screen

    Active or Passive?
It seems this is a passive display port as it works when connected directly to a surface pro. If connected to the dock, it does not function. Microsoft decided to make this port different requiring an active Mini DisplayPort. This should be mentioned on the page whether active or passive, but I can't find it.

    PROS: Cheap

    CONS: Is passive, not active.

Failed after 1 year, 4 months - shortly after 1 year warranty expired
I ordered this item on June 2014. It failed in October 2015. That's when I discovered the warranty was 1 year and in order to post a review I had to order a replacement so I could post a review of the original item. Normally, I expect items with a 1 year warranty to last a minimum of 3 years as I expect and tend to replace them when I replace my laptops. I don't expect them to fail immediately after the warranty period expires and I am very irked when they do especially if they are well-cared for and not abused.

The device was used regularly with a Macbook Air but in a location where there was little to no stress placed on the adapter, i.e. it was plugged into my Macbook Air mini displayport adapter laying flat on my desk. The cable that it was plugged into (majority of the time, DVI, but occasionally DisplayPort and HDMI) also laid flat on my desk so there was little to no stress placed on the adapter.

I now realize this adapter had been failing for several months but I initially wrote it off to a variety of things. The initial problem was that the external monitor would occasionally not display when the Macbook Air was restarted from sleep state. The issue was easily resolved if I unplugged the adapter or the video cable and plugged it back in. It was unclear what was causing the issue as I thought it could be caused by a number of issues including OSX upgrades, my laptop's displayport hardware, cables, etc. I never once thought it was the adapter since this is the first time I have had an adapter fail on me in almost 30 years. But this last week it became very clear when it permanently failed. and I borrowed several other adapters and when they worked I realized my adapter had failed.

In retrospect, I should have reported it to Monoprice sooner but didn't because I could not identify which component in the chain was causing the problem and the problem was easily resolved. Needless to say I will be returning the replacement adapter I just purchased as soon as it arrives and replacing it with display adapters with a longer warranty period. If I cannot acquire display adapters with a longer warranty period then I will purchased dedicated format adapters so I can replace only what is needed when they do fail.

PROS: convenient - multiple ports in one adapter

purchased from Monoprice (regardless of what happened with this item, I really, really like this supplier as they have what I consider to be superb customer service)

CONS: completely FAILED after 1 year, 4 months

    warranty is only 1 year

when one adapter format fails they ALL fail.

    Failed after ten months
What more can I say. It failed after 10 months. Plugging cheaply made devices into valuable laptops is unwise. I consider myself lucky that it didn't destroy my PC. I will update my review based upon the warranty response.

    PROS: worked for ten months,

CONS: 1 defective (broke) and 2 lacks VGA (more common than DVI), but you know that going in.
