USB 2.0 Ultrabook Ethernet Adapter ( Low Power )

Quickly and easily add a 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet to your PC or Mac desktop or laptop computer with this Low Power USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapter from Monoprice!

This adapter plugs into any available USB port and provides an Ethernet connection, complying with the IEEE 802.3 and 802.3u standards. The adapter is on the end of a short length of cable, so the adapter size won't interfere with other ports or connections on your computer. The adapter was originally designed for ultra-book class computers, so it draws significantly less power than traditional Ethernet adapters.

The adapter is compatible with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7. It is also compatible with all versions of the Apple Mac OSX 10.x. The adapter supports both full and half-duplex operations, as well as suspend mode and remote wakeup via link-up and magic packet.

    USB 2.0 Low-power Ethernet Adapter
I ordered this knowing that it did not work with OS X Mavericks out of the box. I downloaded the driver from the manufacturers website (asix.tw), Installed it, rebooted and I was off and running with Ethernet connectivity.

I'm writing this review while connected via this dongle. Since the website is not really English friendly, here is a direct link to the driver download. Scroll to the bottom of the page where it says Drivers. Mac OS X 10.9 is the first driver listed. It is a version 1.0 driver released back in November 2013. It would be a good idea to check back later to see if they revise the driver.

    Driver Link: http://www.asix.com.tw/products.php?op=pItemdetail&PItemID=10571101&PLine=71

It would be nice if Monoprice provided this link for its customers - so non-technical people dont have to go on a wild driver hunt.

Lastly, my Macbook Air doesn't seem to have any issue(s) after installing the driver. No hangs or freezes. I just swallowed a huge OS X 10.9.1 update - no problemo. The installer package does have an uninstaller in the event you need to back the driver out.

PROS: Excellent price. I like that it is low power. I like it !!!

CONS: Did not work with my new MacBook Air with OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) out of the box. But I knew this from reading the reviews.

    Excellent Value
This device is an excellent value. It won't add an Ethernet port to your iPAD but will give you a second Ethernet port on any Windows laptop.

PROS: Great performance, low price, low power consumption

    CONS: Nothing

USB Nettwork adapter works GREAT w/Mac OSX 10.9
This product is advertised as working with all versions of Windows through Windows 7 and all versions of Mac OS X 10.5 and above. The drivers included on the CD were written for version 10.6 to 10.8 and at first the unit would not work with Mavericks (10.9). I called Monoprice's excellent Support people and was provided with a link for the latest drivers from the chip manufacturer. The driver was written Dec 15, 2014 and says it works with Mavericks and with Yosemite. You need these drivers from ASIX for the AX88772B chip for these OS versions. It works great! [The current link for drivers is http://www.asix.com.tw/download.php?sub=driverdetail&PItemID=105]

PROS: Vert fast internet service through USB3 port.

CONS: Drivers were not included with the product in the first place, but I was given a link to them by Support

This adapter works perfectly with my Samsung Chromebook, when I sometimes need a wired ethernet connection. No drivers are needed, as they as included with ChromeOS.

    adapter
Even though this product came with a CD (not needed) I had NO trouble with this adapter. I noticed increased speed right away when plugged into my lap-top, as opposed to wireless.

PROS: easy connection on both ends

    CONS: NONE

PROS: Windows 8.1 recognized the adapter, didn't need (and actually wasn't able to install) the included driver. Connected to the network with no issue. Excellent solution for an ultrabook without a wired Ethernet port.

CONS: Seems to run a little warm in the body of the adapter.

Works on my (Celeron-based) Toshiba Chromebook 2 (2015)
I'm posting this review just to let anyone who might be interested know that it worked right off the bat on my (Celeron-based) Toshiba Chromebook 2 (2015), model number CB35-C3300. (I tried it in the USB 2.0 port but not the USB 3.0 port.)

While I'm posting this, I'll add my one gripe (so far): The tag that says "Low Power Consumption" and is affixed around the cable is a PITA to remove without scissors (which I didn't use, to avoid damaging the cable — good thing I have strong fingernails) and leaves behind some adhesive residue.
