Choice™ Series 12AWG Oxygen-Free Pure Bare Copper Speaker Wire, 100ft

Get the most out of your home audio system with high quality, oxygen-free, pure bare copper speaker wire from Monoprice!

This speaker wire features two conductors made of high purity (greater than 99.95% pure), oxygen-free bare copper. Pure Bare Copper is a superior conductor to the copper clad aluminum (CCA) conductors used in most other inexpensive speaker wire. CCA is only about 68% as conductive as pure bare copper. This additional resistance is added to the impedance of your speakers and can negatively effect the sound.

For the wire to have no audible effect, the total wire resistance should be no more than 5% of the lowest impedance of your speakers. Even speakers rated for a nominal 8-ohms, may dip to as low as 4-ohms at some frequencies, which further reduces the total cable resistance allowed in the wire. Using Pure Bare Copper speaker wire ensures that the total load put on the amplifier remains as close as possible to the impedance curve of your speakers.

For example, a 16AWG 2-conductor Pure Bare Copper speaker wire has a total resistance of 0.803 ohms per 100 feet (both directions must be considered). By comparison, a 16AWG 2-conductor CCA speaker wire has a total resistance of 1.181 ohms per 100 feet. Assuming 4 ohms is the lowest impedance of your speakers, a speaker wire run can be no more 0.2-ohms total. 20 feet of 16AWG Pure Bare Copper would be 0.1606 ohms, well under the 0.2-ohm limit. On the other hand, 20 feet of 16AWG CCA would be 0.2362 ohms, well OVER the 0.2-ohm limit.

One side of the clear outer PVC jacket is marked with an easily visible blue stripe to indicate polarity.

Delivery was prompt and on time. The cable is high quality and very durable. While I was installing the cable in the wall I was worried that the metal studs might break the cable. However, everything turned out fine. The actual wires a pretty thin, so when cutting the PVC cover you need to make sure you don't cut the wire too. Otherwise the cable is very good and you will be satisfied.

    Good speaker wire
This is good speaker wire but as others have said, it look more like a 14 gauge. I compared it to my other 12 gauge speaker wire and its considerably thinner when both stripped or not. Not very flexible either. Still a good buy but Ill be keeping this wire for emergency needs.

    Copper Cables
These wires were worth it and I didn't know the width would be so thick. Luckily it was able to fit in the receiver. Great price for copper wires.

Just received the cable today (looks exactly as pictured with the new black graphic spool)and it really is of great quality. The PVC coating is extremely thick and matched perfectly to Monoprices solderless banana plugs. My only qualm is the blue line that indicates polarity is quite thin and only on one side.

    Great Wire
As an audiophile I've used lots of different speaker wires over time. In my opinion this wore sounds better than Monster, and it's way cheaper.

Using on my center channel as well as my front left and right.

I used this speaker to wire to my home theater room for surround sound. I connected my Boston Acoustic 5.1 speakers to my Yamaha receiver and the sound is crystal clear. I also added banana plugs and banana plug connector plates (from monoprice of course) to give my system a more finished looked. The banana plugs also make the connection to the receiver much easier.

Good cable at a fair price!
I was looking for a heavy speaker cable for my rear surrounds and this fit the bill. I am pleased with the performance although I had a little trouble stripping the ends. I found this unusual because I have never had this problem in the past although not a big issue. Price was about what I could find on ebay although at Monoprice I could find everything I needed in one place which is a advantage for me.

    PROS: fair price

    good quality

    CONS: none
