Great Box - Does What It Should

Pros: Great Price, Solid Build, Plug and Play, Works as Advertised

    Cons: None so far.

I will try to write the type of review that I was looking for when I pulled the trigger and bought this converter. I run a production company in NM, and use a TriCaster Mini HDMI for most shows. I own AJA converters and wanted to compare the Monoprice units. I have both the HDMI-SDI and SDI-HDMI versions, and both work flawlessly. I sent both 1080 and 720 down the line with no issue. I also swapped an AJA box into the line and everything worked well together. I give this a huge thumbs up. Monoprice listened to earlier comments about the build - they now have metal chassis and are rock solid.

    Perfect Fit

    Pros: Easy setup

Cons: I hate that it has to be plugged in to power, but that is a necessary evil. No obvious cons.

I ordered this to be able to run PowerPoint out of a Macbook Pro through HDMI, converted to SDI, and into a TriCaster 850 Extreme. This worked flawlessly and I was so pleased that I decided to see what else I could do with it. I then decided to hook up a school issued Dell laptop (I teach television production) and see if I could Skype to it and thereby have live reports from anywhere in the world. The short answer is yes, yes I can.

Now I will be able to have live Skype reports in our school morning show. I love how this is giving my students a chance to do it like the professionals do it. Excellent product, and a perfect fit for our needs.

I already have plans to purchase several more of these. I also purchased mic cables and microphones from monoprice.com and I have found my new go-to company for technology needs. Fantastic products, amazing prices.

HDMI to 3G SDI and 3G SDI to HDMI Converters

Pros: They tested flawlessly at 1080i @ 200 feet over existing coax (160 feet of RG-6) and a 40 foot extension of
Belden 8241 (not officially rated for SDI). Did not test them at longer runs but intend on doing so for future applications. Testing was done with a Mac Mini and Vizio 65".

Cons: Test failed on 1080p but possibly because of non-compliant SDI coax.

I recently purchased the above Monoprice converters (PID 11749 and 10318) for evaluation for AV installations. I was totally satisfied with their performance. .
