    2x8 HDMI® Switch & Splitter

Build the ultimate Man Cave with two large-screen displays on each wall using the Monoprice 2x8 Switch/Splitter to drive the displays!

OK, so eight displays in one room is a bit much even for the most dedicated football fan, but you can also use this device to run a TV in each room of your house. Commercial applications include TV store owners, who will want this switch/splitter to support direct, side-by-side comparison of eight displays with the ability switch instantly between two different inputs.

This matrix has two HDMI® inputs and eight HDMI outputs, so you can switch between two input source devices and send the signal simultaneously to eight displays. No setup or special configuration is required, simply connect the input device(s) and output device(s), then start using it!

The unit also has a built in, automatically adjusting amplifier. This means that you can use longer than normal HDMI cables running to the inputs. The built-in amplifier will then regenerate the HDMI signal before sending it to the outputs. This lets you extend beyond the normal range (25 feet) for High Speed (1080p) signals.

The unit supports up to 1080p resolution, 12-bit per channel color depth, and high definition audio signals, such as DTS® Digital, Dolby® Digital, DTS-HD Master Audio™, and Dolby TrueHD™, as well as standard LPCM stereo.

Note that you don't have to have two inputs and eight outputs to use this device. You can use just the switching function if you only have one display or just the splitter function if you have only one input.

Note: Monoprice strongly recommends the use of minimum 24 AWG HDMI cables when connecting a device, such as this switch/splitter, between the source and destination devices to ensure minimal signal loss and maximum High Speed signal reliability.

Note that this is NOT a "matrix" device. It cannot independently distribute each input to the various outputs. It is a switch and splitter. You can select either input and split it to the 8 outputs.

    Great splitter
I am using this in conjunction with a 5x1 switch since my devices aren't all hdmi. Using 24awg hdmi, I am retransmitting 50ft to my projector in a different room 1080p. Good product.

PROS: Good amp range, lots of outputs, price

    CONS: none

Anyone want this before I trash it?
I bought this box to replace two 2X1 splitters and to enable future growth. Both of my smaller two way splitters ran 50 ft cables just fine. They were the size of a deck of cards. This shelf occupying box blinks constantly while trying to feed the signal to my projector on a 45 ft HDMI cable and is a hit or miss whether it will send a signal to another room LCD screen on a 50 ft cable. Nothing worse than watching a 2 hour movie and having the screen blank for a few seconds every 10 minutes or so. I switched back to my card sized splitters and the problem went away.

PROS: Multiple outlets in one box.

CONS: Not for use with long lines.

I am using HDMI over CAT6 for 2 TVs located away from my media room. I was originally using a 4x2 matrix (PID 5312) with output A going to my home theatre and output B going to either the kitchen TV or the family room TV. The problem was that I had to physically change the cabling for output B to whichever set I wanted to use, and couldn't use both at the same time.

When I first installed this unit, I tried taking output B from the 4x2 matrix and feeding it into input 1, then taking taking output 1 and 2 to my remote TVs. Signal quality was very poor with intermittent audio. I then tried feeding my PVR directly into this unit, with output 1 going to my 4x2 matrix and outputs 2 & 3 going to my remote TVs. The signal quality improved dramatically. In fact it is now more stable than without this splitter/amplifier in the circuit.

The only negative comment about this unit is that the front panel LEDs are incredibly bright. I had to cover the front panel with black electrical tape, and the lights are still visible even through the tape.

    Could be better.
I hope I can return this still and get something else like the 1x4's I been buying. This thing isnt that great because it always wants to take priority over everything else in the Video network. It will work strictly for your 2x8 applications.

    PROS: Its a 2x8

CONS: Delays video split signal and shuts down other video to take priority over it.

    Response from Monoprice
    Hi Christopher,

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about your experience with PID 8157. Could you describe your setup including all devices and cables in use? Devices such as switches and splitters tend to put a greater load on the signal passing through, which can lead to handshaking issues. The thicker 24AWG lowers signal resistance and helps compensate for this, ensuring minimal signal loss and maximum High Speed signal reliability. Can you verify the length and gauge of the HDMI in use? Please let me know. Thank you!

    3rd one
I am buying this device for the 3rd time. The previous 2 simply stop working. They stop by working by not transmitting the signal to the tvs. This will be the last time I purchase this item.

CONS: Works for about 6 months then dies.

    8157 2x8 HDMI splitter
I am on my second one and it is suffering the same problem as the first one input 2 becomes intermittent. Just got off with customer service and second unit only gets warranty that was assigned to the first unit. So I could buy another one at a discount to have the same problem pop up again. Disappointing. That transaction will not take place. Great Redmere cables though.

PROS: Worked well when it worked

    CONS: 2 input get intermittent.
