4x2 Matrix HDMI® Powered Mini Switch w/ Remote

If you're like most people, you have your home theater setup in one room, but have TVs in other rooms as well. This gives everyone in the house the ability to watch what they want, when they want. But what if the kids want to watch a DVD while you want to watch the big game in the living room with your friends? You can lug the DVD player to the other room for the kids, but a better solution is to use an this 4x2 HDMI® Mini Matrix Switch from Monoprice!

With this switch you don't need to move equipment from room-to-room, nor do you have to buy duplicate equipment for the other room. This matrix provides 4 HDMI inputs, which allows you to connect the Xbox 360®, cable box, blu-ray player, and the output from your Android phone. Any of these four inputs can be independently selected for either of the two outputs. Both displays can select the same or different inputs.

The switch includes a remote control, allowing direct selection of any of the inputs for each of the two outputs. It has a built-in equalizer to compensate for weak HDMI signals and supports the full High Speed 1080p@60Hz HDMI video resolution. It is powered by an included 5 VDC, 2A AC adapter. The four input and two output HDMI ports are gold plated to ensure smooth, corrosion-free connections.

    This matrix measures only 4.5" x 2.4" x 1.3" (115 x 60 x 32 mm). A spare/replacement remote is available as PID 12383.

Note: Monoprice strongly recommends using 22AWG, 24AWG, or active HDMI cables with Redmere technology to achieve the best results and to ensure minimum signal loss over longer distances.

    PID 6416 4x2 Splitter
I traded this for another switch from Monoprice hoping the Comcast box would work. After learning Comcast boxes are not compatible with HDMI switches, I kept the second box and plugged all my devices into that and ran the cable box to the second HDMI input on the TV. I gave this splitter a 10 even though I no longer have it because It did what any other HDMI switch could do and did it for less. If you've got a Comcast cable box, keep this in mind when planning your HDMI switch set up.

PROS: Works well with my Blu Ray player and Play Station.
    Small, compact.
    Remote control.

CONS: Does not work with Comcast cable boxes, but after trying another type of box and doing some research, it seems Comcast boxes are not compatible with any HDMI switches.

2 of the HDMI cables plug in on the sides. Awkward and unsightly if you're trying to create a nice A/V set up.

    Excellent Product, Typical Monoprice!
This 4 in, 2 out HDMI matrix switcher is ideal for use in your Home Theater, or to allow you to add a second display without limiting your input choices. The controls are intuitive and straightforward it works out of the box with clearly labeled in- and out-puts, and a remote that's compact but neither too small nor too complex to use.

As usual, Monoprice has brought to market a product that works as well as any comparable product, but at quite a bit lower price!

PROS: Small, easy to set up. Great quality, fast switching. Low cost!

    CONS: None.

    Good switch, good value
External supply would be con but is necessary for this type of switch.
I needed to feed two outputs (TV and receiver) to watch my Dune player with or without surround. This works well. Passes HDMI handshake between devices with no problems.
I am going to cannibalize an older power supply and USB to feed this with USB power from the Dune, so this isn't on all the time.

PROS: Does what I needed, input can feed two outputs

    CONS: LEDs are BRIGHT!

    Won't handshake in my configuration
Not sure what the problem is. I have an older Samsung DLP HDTV with only one HDMI input. I have a DVD player and an apple tv connected to it. It works if I cycle the switch and a device simultaneously, but it won't change inputs successfully and if I try to start the apple tv without cyclling the switch off it fails to handshake.

May have to return it. Any thoughts?

    Kudos to monoprice
I have to congratulate monoprice customer service. I got one of these and couldn't get it to work with my Samsung dlp. They swapped it out for me with no problem. The new one still didn't work which prompted me to delve deep into the samsung dlp (HL-5063W) configuration menu. To enter this the key sequence on the remote is MUTE 1 8 2 POWER. Under options there is an option for AUTO POWER. Setting this to OFF and now it works great. Many thanks.

PROS: Works great - see my review

    Supported 3DTV!
I ordered this to help switch between devices between a Panasonic HD 3DTV 50" Plasma and a smaller Samsung 32" LCD (non-3D) TV. We've got a TiVo, PS3, XBox 360, and BD3D player. My big concern was supporting 3D, since that's part of HDMI 1.4, not HDMI 1.3b. But the switch works perfectly. Yes, it has that 4 second delay between devices, but this doesn't bother me in the slightest. The only complaint I have with the device is the IR receiver seems to be set in a bit too much, making the remote a bit finicky.

    works great
this product works great, and I love how compact it is.

PROS: exactly what I needed at just the right price

CONS: as people have mentioned it can be a tad finicky when first hooking up inputs/outputs but after a few switches it seems to work fine for me and the delay between switching has been ~1-3 literal seconds which for me personally is fine. Nice and tiny too.

    Good purchase
Considering the price, it was a smart purchase.

    PROS: Product works great.

CONS: Lights are too bright. Remote has to be in direct sight. Have to select twice before switches.

Awesome product! It arrived quickly, the packaging was nicer than I expected and it was 100% plug and play. It makes fast changes to the inputs, and is a small compact design. Only thing I didn't care for was the led lights that indicate what input each screen has selected are very very bright. I had to move mine to not be at eye level other wise its like someone standing next to the TV with a led key chain flashlight aimed at your face. The quality of the product, ease of use, and reliability of the product is exactly what you would expect form Monoprice, freaking terrific!

I would recommend to a friend.

PROS: Easy to use, switches between inputs quickly, small and compact.

CONS: The lights are to bright.

    Time saver
This is a great device, I've been only using it for 2 wks, but so far, so good. My living room is where my Apple box, DVD player, and my cable box are feeding to a 60 in plasma wall mounted TV. I wanted to have the same options feed to a 34 in LED TV in another room. Unfortunately a 30 ft HDMI cable was needed, the output on this device was not strong enough to run that far. By adding a powered HDMI splitter to the 30 ft line, it gave it enough of a boost and both Tv's now use the apple box, DVD player and cable box, with the flip of the button on the remote.( they operate separately, or both at the same time) buy this, you will not regret it, it is well worth the money.

PROS: Compact lights indicate which device you are using

CONS: Remote only works for short distance( 6 ft or less) output will not work on a long HDMI cable
