4x2 True Matrix HDMI® Switch with Remote Control (Rev. 3.0)

If you're like most people, you have your home theater setup in one room, but have TVs in other rooms as well. This gives everyone in the house the ability to watch what they want, when they want. But what if the kids want to watch a DVD while you want to watch the big game in the living room with your friends? You can lug the DVD player to the other room for the kids, but a better solution is to use an this 4x2 True Matrix HDMI® Switch from Monoprice!

With this switch you don't need to move equipment from room-to-room, nor do you have to buy duplicate equipment for the other room. This matrix provides 4 HDMI inputs, which allows you to connect the Xbox 360™, cable box, blu-ray player, and the output from your Android phone. Any of these four inputs can be independently selected for either of the two outputs. Both displays can select the same or different inputs.

The switch includes a remote control, allowing direct selection of any of the inputs for each of the two outputs. Additionally, the matrix can be controlled by a computer, via an RS232 serial port, as well as front panel controls.

The matrix supports the full High Speed 1080p@60Hz HDMI video resolution and features a 6.75Gbps bandwidth, sufficient to support 3D video, 36-bit Deep Color, x.v.Color, and high-definition multichannel audio, including Dolby TrueHD™ and DTS-HD Master Audio™. It is powered by an included 5 VDC, 2A AC adapter. The four input and two output HDMI ports are gold plated to ensure smooth, corrosion-free connections. It measures about 10.2" x 4.5" x 1.3".

A spare/replacement remote is available as PID 6166.

Note: Monoprice strongly recommends using 22AWG, 24AWG, or active HDMI cables with Redmere technology to achieve the best results and to ensure minimum signal loss over longer distances.

    Works, but misleading advertisement

Pros: Works with multiple displays of different resolution at the same time.

Cons: Misleading advertisement. 3D required HDMI v1.4 and this device is only v1.4 despite the description clearly stating "features a 6.75Gbps bandwidth, sufficient to support 3D video" - False advertisement.

I've had this sitting in storage for a while til I finished my Home Theater room. I just hooked it up the other day and so far it works quite well. My TV only supports 720P and the project is 1080P and this unit has no problem projecting to both at the same time. I would give this a higher rating except for one thing. The description clearly states "features a 6.75Gbps bandwidth, sufficient to support 3D video" but it does not and therefore I now have to look for a new unit to work with my 3D blu-ray Player. I should have looked closer at the specs as this only support HDMI version 1.3 whereas version 1.4 is required for 3d content. So the advertisement is a flat out lie and Monoprice should take that out of the description. I feel very cheated and do not recommend this device for 3D

Keep in mind that 3D can also be outputted at 720p/1080p, so this should be able to support on those resolutions. If you are trying to show 3D at 4k or any other resolution higher than 1080p. This may not work properly and I do recommend using our Blackbird Matrixes for that. Thank you!

    Bad out of the box

    Cons: It didn't work.

Usually I get good stuff from Monoprice but this time the unit was no good. I had to go to a retail store to buy a replacement so I could complete my project. Then a trip to UPS to return this one. Yuck

    Okay, but not great

Pros: Low cost for matrix switch
Dual monitor switching on multiple computers
    Easy setup

    Cons: Slow to switch
    Buggy performance

I bought this switch as a way to use dual monitors on two different computers and switch out screens as needed. At a sub-$100 price point, I didn't expect a fantastic piece of equipment, but the switch does the job as advertised.

The setup was easy: four inputs, two for each computer. Two outputs, one for each monitor. One input powers each output. The switch can mirror to multiple displays if you don't have the connections on your computer, but it can't split a single signal into two discrete signals.

Unfortunately, the downside to a cheap matrix switch is a lack of reliability. When I switch from one set of inputs to another, about half of the time the switching process fails to complete and I'm left with blank screens and/or static. When it does work, it still takes 5-10 seconds for it to fully switch systems. The switch also seems to have problems with BIOS display on PCs and single user/recovery mode on Macs, which makes hardware debugging. system recovery, and dual-booting setups a bit of a PITA.

Overall, if you need a matrix switch and can't afford one in the $150+ range, this will do the job, but don't expect anything spectacular. .

Works great, except when using a HDMI Audio Extractor

I had high hopes for this product. I was going to use it in my kid's church because we have several options for devices but only one projector. I use a HDMI Audio extractor to pull the audio from the HDMI Cable to plug audio into my sound board, but it didn't work. Everything else worked great though.

    Works pretty well

Pros: Seems to do its job fairly well

Cons: Blue LEDs on the front are VERY distracting while trying to watch a movie... Any chance you guys could change them to red (which doesn't ruin night vision) or, perhaps, add a dimmer setting on there so people aren't distracted by the bright lights? Or, better, a way to turn off the LEDs while leaving the device on?
Having two remotes is a pain but, I'll get used to it - eventually. :-)

I've had this device for about a week, seems to do its job fairly well. The one "complaint" I have is that my universal remote won't let me add turning this on into the "sequence" for startup. :-) So, I now have 2 remotes I have to use to turn on the TV or DVD. :-) Small inconvenience. Overall, the device works as expected so far.
