Following a discussion with a friend on the solutions on the market for converting audio and video signal to a HD TV to a CRT, I began to research and after finding the HDFury, I looked for a solution less expensive. I was happy to find u do simple and affordable solution at Monoprice, the Composite to HDMI converter.
I love the industrial look of the Monoprice adapter, a small metal box with inputs on one side and out the other. It has an RCA cable and AC adapter. It seems very solid and is compatible NTSC and PAL.

• NTSC / PAL
I tested this unit with a Boxee Box and Apple TV and my old Sony Trinitron TV 27 ". In both cases it works very well, but be aware that these devices remember your TV output configuration. So you should be a reset so that they work properly. You can then change the settings to your liking.
The image is converted successfully and I have noticed a small vertical scan when the screen is totally black, but the image is very stable and very defined. At least up to a CRT can do it!
Color reproduction is accurate to the original and if my TV had an S-Video input I would have at least enjoyed the 480i.

If you do not have to spend $ 300 for a converter and you need a reliable and affordable, I highly recommend the Monoprice HDMI converter that offers an excellent visual rendering and sound for around $ 45. A great way to connect an optional Smart TV to a TV in the basement, or even a Boxee Box! The only hitch is the vertical scan really visible when the screen is black!
