Good solution for limited-input TVs.

Pros: Switches have a nice solid feel. Video processing is accurate. Very compact size.

Cons: The downside to it's compact size is that it is not rack-mountable. And the LED's are indeed very bright however, electrical tape or some "Dim-it" (available thru Amazon) easily fixes the problem.

My current TV has only two HDMI inputs and only one Component input. I am using this item with a Toshiba HD player and an old Sony DVD player. I do not use the DVI. I also have not yet used the remote.
The unit functions perfectly. Switching is quick. Colors and positioning seem accurate. A nice solution to bring my components together on my limited-input tv. Highly recommended.

Poor Quality - 2nd Unit- We will see.

Pros: Has all the connections I need in a decently sized form factor.

Cons: Led's are blinding, recommend covering them with black tape to hide after done (at least if you have a harmony remote).

First unit came only partially functional (didn't switch properly/had to switch to same port multiple times to get picture to come in correctly), and the remote control that came with unit and my harmony didn't control correctly (press 3 sometimes get 1 or 3, same with pressing 1), sent this unit back.

Second, replacement unit, came with a damaged dvi port that I had to bend open to get pins to fit (not confident in correction since port is already damaged/plastic meant to separate the pins is damaged). I did get this one working however, and am currently testing even with damaged port.

Overall, I have enjoyed monoprice's quality and prices, but this appears to be an exception. I will update my rating later/re-rate after playing with for a few days/weeks.

Update from original review. The converter took a crap on the component side. It still works for the hdmi and dvi imputs, but the component side took a dive...it still allows audio for component, but video is unviewable, pops-up a white and green screen where I can only make out a few words. I used a separate component to hdmi adapter that I have to confirm it was the adapter, it is/it plays well through older adapter with no problems. Lasted barely a year, I RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT.

Does what it needs to

Pros: Does what it needs to. Solid, good construction.

Cons: Only one of each kind of input. Most of us have more than one source of a type.

It's ok, it does what it needs to, but the thing could really stand a second component or HDMI in. I mean really, how often do people use DVI on a home theatre? Most of this is for video games and media players with HDMI or Component, I suspect, and this only allows in of one each.

Component with audio to HDMI is it defective?

Pros: Inexpensive. Easy to install. Sturdy exterior build.

Cons: Quality control of electronics and picture quality. Over saturation and too bright. Picture flashes on and off to blank screen when you use menu guide on the TV or remote control of cable/satellite box.

I use a Dish VIP 211 satellite receiver. The HDMI is disabled so I only have the component output. I wanted to use an HDMI cable to go to the television instead of having five wires (3 component, 2 audio) so I purchased this converter. My television is a Samsung UN39FH5000F 1080p LED HDTV. When I used the converter, the picture kept flashing from the video to a black screen. Eventually that stopped, but when I use the Dish program guide or the TV volume control it would start that flashing again. Like it loses the signal and tries to sync and locks in again. If you just watch one channel, never change it or adjust the volume the picture is stable. Also, no matter what you do to try and adjust the brightness or color saturation, the converter box fights your settings and goes back to what ever it seems to be defaulted to. I am not sure if this is a defective unit or if it is incompatible with my set, but whatever it is, I'm disappointed.

HDMI converter does not do what iot is supposed to do.

Pros: It does convert component to HDMI ONLY if the component signal is "progressive" or higher.

Cons: If you have an older DVD or super VHS unit with standard component output, don't expect this unit to work. The unit also defaults to the HDMI to HDMI switch when power is shut off and turned on again when both the HDMI and component inputs are used. This causes confusion when outputing a signal from more than one source. Finally the instruction booklet is absolutely worthless as very little of the functions are covered. The remote is very weak. I have tested two units with the same result in every action mentioned above.

I will continue to look for a switching unit that will actually do what this unit claims it will do. In other words convert all component signals to HDMI.
