When you want that bone-rattling deep, smooth bass sound, made famous by artists as diverse as Steve Harris (Iron Maiden), John Deacon (Queen), Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy), and Dee Dee Ramone, you want the 6th Street Pub Electric Bass from Monoprice!
This bass guitar features a split single-coil pickup, which produces a smooth sound with tremendous low-end presence, which is perfect for the driving rhythms of heavy metal and progressive rock. It is constructed of basswood, with a bolt-on maple neck, and rosewood fretboard. The nut is 38mm wide. It has chrome plated knobs, one for volume and one for tone.
The bass is fitted with medium strings (.045, .065, .080, .105) and has been professionally setup by Master Luthier Roger Gresco, so it is ready to play right out of the box. It comes with a 5mm sponge gig bag and a truss wrench.
Pros: Great looks, nice sound, awesome price. It has chops.
Cons: Needs better or at least some shielding.
Five stars for the money.

Great, after set up...
Pros: Solidly built, great price, decent tone.
Cons: All strings had bad buzz out of the box at the first 5 frets.
Bought this bass on sale and i'm glad I did. It has a nice feel to it, and after playing around with the bridge and truss rod settings, I got all of the strings buzz free. Plugged it in and was pleasantly surprised at the tone, considering I only paid $100 for it. I'm playing it through the Monoprice bass amp, which is also pretty decent.
Overall I would say this is a great beginner to mid range bass.

Pros: solid deep smooth tone
low weight
well set up
nice fast neck - easy player
arctic white? paint job
Cons: deep gouge marks on the pick-guard
tone and volume knobs are slightly crooked and uneven height
I think they put different strings on mine because there is nothing twangy about this one. It has classic p-bass tone and seems to hold tuning quite well, so far. The neck seems a little narrow at the nut more like a jazz bass, which I'm plenty cool with. The maple neck has a nice finish.
A few craftsmanship problems, in particular the gouges on the pick guard. It looks as if whoever screwed it in place was having a bad day because there are pretty deep nicks at nearly every screw location. Would be nice if Monoprice would send me a replacement pick guard for it. That and the tone and gain knobs with the wanky assembly I can fix easily enough though. At least the paint job is good
For the price I got it at, I am quite astonished at how good it sounds. I've had a few much more expensive basses and tone wise this is surprisingly close.
Except for the pick guard issue, I am quite satisfied. I think I got much more than my money's worth of musical instrument here.
So, any chance you can comp me a replacement pick guard Monoprice?
by Monoprice Administrator Hi John,
Thank you for your review, glad to hear you are enjoying PID 610751. Regarding the pick guard, would you be able to send a photo of the gouge marks? We do not carry any replacement pick guards unfortunately, however I can assist you in setting up an RMA for a replacement should it become an issue. I sincerely apologize for the issue with the pick guard. Please let me know how you would like to proceed.
Cons: At this price, there is nothing I could consider a negative. At three or four times its price, there would be nothing I could consider a negative.
I am impressed with the surprisingly good action on and playability of this bass, with its relatively light weight, with its build quality, and with its sound. I am, quite frankly, astonished at its price. I have played better basses, to be sure, but they have cost significantly more, and their prices clearly show the law of diminishing returns spending lots more does not buy improvement in quality commensurate with the increase in price. Were I playing professionally, I'd still use a more expensive bass. As a primarily six-string guitarist who likes to keep a decent bass around, however, this item simply cannot be beat.

reasonably good bass guitar
Pros: decent quality, sounds fine
Cons: poor set up by Master Luthier Roger Gresco
The bass guitar is decent build and sound quality...read Monoprice promise " professionally set up by Master Luthier Roger Gresco so you can ply right out of the box", yeah right, my bass had all kinds of fret buzz. Took me a while to adjust the guitar..but, it is OK now...I guess , one can not expect too much for a bass guitar for around $100...
