California Classic Left-Handed Solid Body Electric Guitar - Sunburst
If you are left-handed and want to play guitar, you can do like Jimi Hendrix did, taking a standard right-handed guitar and stringing it upside down for left-handed use. The problem is that leaves the controls and cable connection in the wrong place and you have to move the strap button, leaving an ugly hole in the side of your axe. The better option is to get this California Classic Left-Handed Solid Body Guitar from Monoprice!
This full-sized, 22-fret guitar features a left-handed, double-cutaway body made of basswood, a bolt-on maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and chrome machine heads/tuning pegs. It uses three single-coil pickups in the bridge, middle, and neck positions. A five-position selector switch allows you to use each of the three pickups individually, while the 2 and 4 positions combine the neck and bridge pups with the middle one for that distinctive "quack" sound. A tremolo/whammy bar is included for note bending.
Before it gets shipped to you, each Monoprice guitar undergoes a setup, tuning, and inspection process by Master Luthier Roger Gresco here in Southern California. The setup ensures that the neck is straight, the action is right, and that it will stay in tune. Additionally, it comes with everything you need to get started, including strings (installed), the tremolo/whammy bar, a heavy-duty zippered black gig bag with shoulder strap, a truss-rod wrench, and a pick.

| | Lefty strikes back | Pros: Price
Cons: Paint Job Tuners Plastic on pick guard and knobs doesn't come off easily
Plays well for the price. Paint came already bubbled next to the pick guard. Wasn't even a day when I noticed that. Guess my luthier didn't look too closely at this one. You get what you pay for. I'd say save up your money and get a fender or Gibson.

| | Quality control is terrible | Pros: Overall a nice looking guitar for the money.
Cons: I had to send the first one back, missing the date for a gift, because of deep scratch on the first one. Looked like second hand or used. They mentioned in the description that it comes with a pick, that is missing.
Unless your on a very limited budget, I would shop elsewhere.
by Monoprice Administrator Hi DaveH,
I truly apologize for the condition that the first guitar arrived in. I see that the new guitar was delivered on Monday. If I may ask, have you had a chance to inspect it? If so, did you experience any issues with that one? Sorry again for the trouble and thank you for your feedback.

| | Wonderful Guitar | Pros: Great price
Good action and intonation
Good sound
Fast shipping
Cons: This is really being picky the little plastic end on the pickup selector 5-way wasn't glued on and came off. Took me a while to find it on a white floor. A little crazy glue and I'm all set.
Ordered on Saturday, shipped on Monday, arrived on Tuesday - awesome! I was not expecting too much for under $100 (used a coupon), but boyI was surprised! I am the proud owner of a 1967 Stratocaster (left-handed), so I have something to compare it with directly. I can't believe how this thing plays and sounds. I had none of the problems mentioned in some of the other reviews. The action is wonderful, the intonation good and the finish is great. Maybe the luthier, Roger Gresco, paid attention to some of the negative reviews. The guitar was even in tune to a Eb, but let's not get too picky. I have been a professional musician for 40 years and unfortunately have only recently discovered Monoprice. Home run guys!

| Pros: price, well constructed, one of the best clones, better than all the Squier options except the very top.
Cons: Don't really like the headstock logo. If you get a house brand name it would be better. stock strings are not that great, but they're really not terrible. intonation, see below
First of all for the price it is definitely worth it. If you get it on sale, well you get even more value don't you. So here is the issue, and it's common to all strats, most tele, etc. It's a Fender design issue but it's present in this guitar also.
The bridge does not allow good consistency in intonation. For example if you use the tremolo a lot you will be way out of tune after every song. That's the joke about Fenders. Well it's funny because it's true. So this one really isn't that bad, I have kept everything 100% stock to test it out and you can get 5/6 strings almost perfect intonation if you check open against 12th fret, both the harmonic and fretted note. This was done with a Korg GA-1 that basically everyone has so no fancy equipment or super exact precision was used.
Some aftermarket bridges, even inexpensive ones, are designed better and give you finer screws so you can make more precise tuning, or 'hold' their tuning better even with the springs and tremolo. This one is basically the same as a stock Squier ie not as good as a true Fender but good enough especially for the price. I would upgrade the bridge if you're going to upgrade anything at all. Recommend a different string gage for D also as this one is the one I could not get to tune right. Loosened the screw as much as possible (shortest string length) and still too flat at 12th fret compared to open. The reason I didn't change the strings first, it might be an issue new strings would fix but that's unlikely.
other than the intonation, it was set up very well. No neck issues, the body and finish are great. If not for the intonation it would be a 10/10 easily.

| | "OK" guitar | Pros: - Inexpensive
- Beatiful paint job
Cons: - Frets edges are rough
- Tuning hardware is 'good'... far from 'great'.
BACKGROUND:
I bought this guitar for my son, who is left handed. This is his first electric.
Myself... I am an experienced, right-handed, guitar player (20+ years).
GUITAR:
I highly recommend this guitar for anyone interested in playing guitar.
Guitars that have similar HARDWARE can cost ~$150.
Guitars that have similar paint jobs (… with better hardware) can cost ~$350.
So, if you ball-park it, this guitar should be priced around $200... Monoprice sells it for WAY less. Super deal!
Don’t hesitate… buy it today!
*** REVIEW COMPLETE ***
My only recommendation to the Monoprice team...
I know these guitars are coming from China. They are CNC fabrications. I’m cool with that.
My guitar came with a certificate that indicated it was inspected by a luthier (professional guitar inspector / repairer). If so, you guys should consider buffing the frets before shipping. They are very rough.
When I saw the certificate fall out of the box, I was like "Wow!.. a luthier!". But as I ran my hand down the neck, I was like "Umm... Either the luthier doesn't care about quality or Monoprice is trying to save on cost."
Also, this might be an isolated incident but…
My guitar had a NOTICIABLE blemish on the body. After careful examination, I’ve determined that it was NOT from shipping but form the paint factory (uneven coat, you can almost see the wood). This goes back to your ‘luthier’… if Monoprice REALLY has a luither on staff, this error would’ve been caught prior to shipping.
