California Classic Solid Body Electric Guitar - Lightning Black
You know it when you hear it. That distinctive California Classic sound made famous by artists like Dick Dale, David Gilmour, and Ritchie Blackmore. Whether it is the surf, blues, psychedelic rock, country, or classic hard rock, this California Classic Solid Body Electric Guitar from Monoprice is the perfect axe for your daily practice and performance needs.
This full-sized, 22-fret guitar features a double-cutaway body made of basswood, a bolt-on maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and chrome machine heads/tuning pegs. It uses three single-coil pickups in the bridge, middle, and neck positions. A five-position selector switch allows you to use each of the three pickups individually, while the 2 and 4 positions combine the neck and bridge pups with the middle one for that distinctive "quack" sound. A tremolo/whammy bar is included for note bending.
Unlike the other California Classic guitars, this model features a lightning graphic, as well as a black pickguard, knobs, switch end, rear electronics cover, and pickup bodies.
Before it gets shipped to you, each Monoprice guitar undergoes a setup, tuning, and inspection process by Master Luthier Roger Gresco here in Southern California. The setup ensures that the neck is straight, the action is right, and that it will stay in tune. Additionally, it comes with everything you need to get started, including strings (installed), the tremolo/whammy bar, a heavy-duty zippered black gig bag with shoulder strap, and a truss-rod wrench.

| | Love it! | Pros: Setup playability, visual impact, quality for the money-valie.
Cons: None
This guitar arrived a couple weeks ago, in perfect condition. This is my fourth Monoprice guitar (2nd Strat clone) and I have been more than satisfied with all of them. This one was set up very well, and plays smooth as butter. Needed a tuning, but that's easy. Since I am the proud owner of a Ford SVT F1500 Lightning pickup truck, I naturally had to have a guitar with Lightning graphics...and the graphics on the guitar are very nicely done and I like the black theme with the blacked out pick guard and tone/volume controls. Paired it up with a matching lightning guitar strap from Guitar Center, and look is just killer.

| | CALIFORNIA CLASSIC SOLID BODY W/LIGHTENING PICK GUARD | Pros: Great Action. Set up was perfect out of the box. The guitar holds its tuning well. Light and the feel is great.
Cons: The pick guard is a soft plastic and scratches easy. No other complaints.
I bought the Les Paul Clone first. It sounded great and for the money sounded as good if not better than guitars 3 times the cost if not much more. I figured, as this guitar was also on sale, I would buy it too. I was pleasantly surprised to see just how well the guitar was made. It played well out of the box. The action was perfect. I bought another "strat clone" that boasted better pickups, but found too many issues with it compared to this guitar. I am using this guitar as my "go to" guitar when I plan due to the action and ease of use. And, it really sounds good, no intonation issues up the neck, and it stays in tune very well.

| | California Classic. Extremely Pleased! | Pros: Plays well. Everything is nice and tight with good action. Pickups sound great. Everything was great right out of the box. The gig bag is an added bonus, especially for the price.
This company wants to earn your business. They have put forth a quality product at a ridiculous price. There is nothing at all cheap. This is comparable to guitars selling for hundreds more. I have been playing 400 years and wanted a beater to take travelling and did not want to take my higher end guitars on the road. I will recommend this highly and urge you to check it out before the prices go up. I will be a repeat customer.

| | Love this guitar | Pros: It's an amazing instrument. I have a collection of old top of the line guitars, and I can now leave them at home. I'm blown away at the quality of these Monoprice guitars. The bolt-on neck, the euothane finish, the certificate of authenticity, all add up to a great product, for beginners, to masters. I wish they had these back in the 70s. I'd most likely be a better player! I'm a tinkerer, and never leave well enough alone, so I'll end this with - I put time and money into this guitar, but it played, and sounded fine out of the box.
Cons: The only thing I can point to as a con, is an error in the specifications. The specs read "Maple Neck, Maple Fingerboard". Unfortunately, it's fretboard is rosewood, not a maple. It's a typo, so I'll live with it just fine.
I was totally blown away with the purchase of the Monoprice "Retro Vision" Tele type axe. A month later I visited Monoprice to get a capo for an Artcore with a wide neck. I found just what I needed, for $5.00! Before I checked out, I went back to the guitar section, and there was an after Christmas 20% store-wide sale, so I ended up buying this Lightening Bolt "California Classic" too. The Retro Vision's frets were protruding from the fretboard, and sharp, so I dressed them myself. Not the case with this one, the frets are perfect. I upgraded the pickups, shielded the guts with copper foil, upgraded the pick guard, the 5 way switch, the volume, tone, and a TBX pot (for the middle and bridge pickups), put on locking tuners, added roller saddles, and roller "Tees". Besides that it"s stock. It played and sounded great before all that, but its pickups were noisy in positions 1, 3, and 5, which led me to getting replacements. For the price, go for it, you won't be disappointed!
