DP (DisplayPort) Male to DVI-D Female Adapter (Single-Link)
DisplayPort is the newest digital display interface standard introduced by VESA. The format supports both digital video and audio. Here's a simple solution for connecting your DisplayPort equipment devices using DVI-D cables to your exisiting DVI devices. This simple adapter is all you need to convert from one format to the other.
-
Max. Supported Resolution - 1920x1200 (250MHz)
-
Supports 1080p (1920x1080) resolution.
Note: This is a passive adapter. While DisplayPort connectors are capable of passing a DVI signal, DisplayPort and DVI signals are basically different and not compatible with each other. This adapter does not actively convert a DisplayPort signal into a DVI signal. In order for this adapter to function properly, you must have a DisplayPort source device capable of producing and passing out a DVI signal through the DisplayPort jack.

| DP (DisplayPort) Male to DVI-D Female Adapter (Single-Link) | | | Question: Will this adapter fit into the Mini DisplayPort found on the Mac Book Pro? | | Answer: No, the mini DisplayPort is a new connector introduced by Apple. It is based on the same technology of the standard DisplayPort connector but has a more compact connector. | | Question: Does Monoprice offer a Mini DisplayPort adapter or cable used on the new MacBook Pro''''''''s? | | Answer: Yes, please look at PID# 5106 & 5107 | | Question: Will this adapter transmit audio? | | Answer: No, while DisplayPort technology supports audio, VGA and DVI do not. | | Question: Will this adapter support Dual Link DVI connections? | | Answer: No, DVI uses a different protocol for extended graphic resolutions than DP. Dual link can not be supported without an active converter. These adapters are passive. | | Question: What is DisplayPort? | | Answer: DisplayPort is a new digital video and audio connection standard designed by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). It is a royalty-free technology designed primarily for the computer industry but also compatible for home theater application. | | Question: What''s the difference between DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort? | | Answer: Mini DisplayPort is a more compact version of the orginial DisplayPort connector that was designed by Apple Computers and is found mostly on their newest MacBook laptops. | | Question: What''s the difference between active and passive Mini Displayport to DVI/HDMI/VGA adapters? Why would I need an active adapter? | | Answer: An active adapter converts a true Mini Displayport signal into DVI/HDMI/VGA. It will have either a converter chip or a DAC built in to do said conversion. Contrary to popular belief, they do not need to have a usb power connection, in fact there are many that do not. Passive adapters are merely a cable to go from Mini Displayport to DVI/HDMI/VGA. The video card detects the monitor as such, and outputs the required signal (DVI/HDMI/VGA). This does require one of the two aforementioned clocks, hence why they do not work with certain video cards, like eyefinity cards. Active adapters, on the other hand receive a Mini Displayport signal from the video card, and convert it to DVI/HDMI/VGA. They will always have some sort of onboard DAC or video converter chip which they use to convert the Mini Displayport signal. Lately, most everyone has been referring the DAC ones as ‘passive.’ This is not the case. This is a passive adapter. While Mini Displayport connectors are capable of passing a DVI/HDMI/VGA signal, Mini Displayport and DVI/HDMI/VGA signals are basically different and not compatible with each other. This adapter does not actively convert a Mini Displayport signal into a DVI/HDMI/VGA signal. In order for this adapter to function properly, you must have a Mini Displayport source device capable of producing and passing out a DVI/HDMI/VGA signal through the Mini Displayport jack. |

| | Great Adapter, and your best fail-point | Pros: - A surprisingly effective fail-point - Maintains a solid connection under normal operation - Behaves like a DVI connection, not like a DP connection
Cons: - Sags a bit when connected horizontally, and would be nicer if it had a wire inline to reduce stress on any DP device plugs.
I have had one of these for several years, and I have to say that it may have saved me several hundred dollars today. Having not purchased longer cables to accommodate a new sit-stand desk, I accidentally had a cable snag, which put pressure on the monitor and computer, but the adapter split apart instead saving me a $200+ monitor purchase and a $300+ graphics card purchase. So, even if it is a little flimsy, it has been a safe connection and one that will break instead of breaking your devices. The adapter has worked great to convert a displayport signal into my DVI (single) monitor. I even discovered that it takes care of the wonky plug-n-play behavior of DP that makes the monitor disappear despite being connected to a DP card, the DVI monitor doesn't disappear from device manager.

| | works great..... BE CAREFUL !! ! ! ! ! | Pros: Works as described. No other real adapters out there like this one.
Cons: flimsy design. many of our adapters have "broken"
if dvi cable "hangs" from adapter, it is common for these to apply pressure/ torque or leverage which causes the adapter to fail. then the button will not depress to disengage the barbs and the adapter will become "stuck" in the pc. be very careful when using this not to move or wiggle the cable/adapter. we have 5 and three have broken in two different machines.

| | Did not work with Asus Motherboard | Did not work with Asus Z97 Deluxe motherboard and DVI monitor.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Truly sorry to hear PID 4827 did not work with your Asus Z97 Deluxe motherboard. Have you installed the latest drivers for your motherboard? Also for troubleshooting purposes, have you tried testing the adapter with another computer, display, as well as different cables?
Please note that this adapter does not actively convert a DisplayPort signal into a DVI signal. You would need a DisplayPort source device that is capable of producing and passing out a DVI signal through the DisplayPort jack. Would you happen to have the make and model of the monitor in use? Can you verify that the DVI input on your display is in fact DVI-D single link? Please let me know so that I may further assist you.

by Anonymous I have the latest drivers installed. The adapter does not work on two different monitors. I am having this result with four different Monoprice adapters: Displayport-to-DVI, Displayport-to-VGA, Mini Displayport-to-DVI, Mini Displayport-to-VGA. I am using two cables as appropriate for the adapter: a Mini Displayport cable, and a Displayport cable, both with couplers.
The monitors I have are: Dell 2001FP (1600x1200 max resolution) and an Acer x243w (1920x1200 max resolution). The connector on both is DVI-D dual link and I have attached Monoprice DIV-D Dual Link cables. I cannot speak as to how many of the pins of the DVI-D Dual Link the monitors actually use. Both monitors also have a VGA connector.
The connector on the Monoprice DVI adapters is DVI-I Dual Link.

by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
What is the length of the DisplayPort cables you are using? Are you extending the length with the couplers? Could you send a photo of your setup so that I may better understand? You can send the photo to gisselle.barrientos@monoprice.com . Thanks in advance!

by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for the clarification. As there's multiple devices between your source and display, it increases the chance of the signal degrading. One thing we can try to simplify the setup would be to connect PID 4827 directly to your DisplayPort output and use a longer DVI-D cable if you have one on hand such as PID 2759:
http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=102&cp_id=10209&cs_id=1020902&p_id=2759&seq=1&format=2&rep=meow
However the best solution would be to eliminate everything and run an active adapter such as PID 12784 straight through:

Please let me know if you are able to try a longer DVI-D cable and how you would like to proceed. Hope this helps!
