STP stands for Shielded Twisted Pairs.
The ethernet standard uses data packet transmission and error correction. Unlike streaming data transmission, this standard simply buffers and repeats until it has a complete instruction set which compensates data transmission errors.
Since UTP was cheaper in the beginning, it generally became the standard. If you are using the cables for ethernet connections, either should work. The problem is that some manufacturer's cut costs by using Copper Clad Aluminum wire for their conductors. The aluminum has a higher resistance, which causes more heat and can thereby present a fire hazard. "Bare copper" is the term used in the National Electrical Code, Underwriters Laboratories, and the Communications Cable and Connectivity Association (CCCA). Our use of the term is intended to communicate our total compliance with their standards for Ethernet cable construction.

I needed several very short patch cables. I also needed to be able to identify each cable at a glance. I purchased this cable in several different colors for less than a dollar a copy. Perfect!

| | Pre-made variable lengths are fantastic! | Pros: Being able to order custom lengths saved a lot of time, as well as making for a very clean installation and look. No extra cables dangling everywhere, and all of them with pre-finished cable ends saved me the hassle of making my own cables. Can't beat the prices, either. Money well spent.
Cons: None.
I had to upgrade to a 16 port Gbit switch, requiring all new Cat6 cabling for maximum effect. Having these multiple lengths to choose from made the installation look great and go quickly. Take the time to properly estimate your lengths! Ordering the cables took much less time than determining lengths required.
