The ethernet standard uses data packet transmission and error correction. Unlike streaming data transmission, this standard simply buffers and repeats until it has a complete instruction set which compensates data transmission errors.
Since UTP was cheaper in the beginning, it generally became the standard. If you are using the cables for ethernet connections, either should work. The problem is that some manufacturer's cut costs by using Copper Clad Aluminum wire for their conductors. The aluminum has a higher resistance, which causes more heat and can thereby present a fire hazard. "Bare copper" is the term used in the National Electrical Code, Underwriters Laboratories, and the Communications Cable and Connectivity Association (CCCA). Our use of the term is intended to communicate our total compliance with their standards for Ethernet cable construction.

I needed several very short patch cables. I also needed to be able to identify each cable at a glance. I purchased this cable in several different colors for less than a dollar a copy. Perfect!

| | Needed More Short Patch Cables In A Different Color | Pros: Good price, great quality, colors are awesome!
Cons: Don't have any.
We needed short patch cables in a different color to separate the kids' wired/wireless network from our network. These worked great and have a nice color.

| | Excellent quality high grade cable | Pros: This cable is very similar to any other Cat 6 cable sold on here. Excellent quality jackets really protect the cable from abuse and they will last a long time. The various colors help coordinating a home network where you can be sure which lead goes to which room.
Cons: Sometimes these cables lengths are measured from the very tip of the cable and some are measured from the back of the jacket, so the length seems to vary by the length of the connector. Generally this is never an issue.
This is an excellent product that I will surely buy again for my next whole home wiring project.

| Pros: quality of cable
Cons: stiff bulb for releasing rj-45 connector
As usual the shipping and processing was painless. The cables arrived in good condition and are quality pieces. My only complaint is that the plastic bulb for releasing the rj-45 connector is very stiff. I end up having to stick my thumbnail between the bulb and whatever it is connected to in order to release it. I would have preferred a hinged design, but monoprice doesn't offer those.
