| Commercial Series Premium Standard HDMI® Cable, 50ft Black | | | Question: What is diameter of this 24AWG cable? | | Answer: Its OD is 10.0mm. | | Question: What is AWG? | Answer: AWG stands for "American Wire Gauge." It is the thickness of the wire inside the cable. The lower number AWG denotes thicker wiring and thicker overall cable. Thicker cables are recommended for longer cable runs because they offer less resistance along the signal path.
| | Question: What does the gold plating refer to? | | Answer: Gold plating refers to the connectors. Gold plating provides resistance against corrosion that would otherwise impede signal transfer and could damage connections on equipment. | | Question: What is the performance benefit of Tin and Silver Plating? | Answer: Tin and silver plating refer to plating on the copper wire conduits inside the cable. The plating is to control the "skin effect." The skin effect is the tendancy of digital signals to travel along the surface of a wire and be more suceptible to surface disipation. The plating is suppose to lock the signal in the copper core.
Silver is a better conductor of electricity than tin and therefore offers better signal integrity. | Question: These cables say "For In-Wall Use." Does that mean they can only be used in wall? What is CL2? | Answer: "For In-Wall Use" refers to the CL2 rating these cables receive from Underwriters Laboratories (UL). It means that these cables have a slow burning outer jacket, should meet most fire codes and are safe for in-wall installations.
The CL2 rating does not affect the appearance or performance of the cables. They can be used in or out of wall. | | Question: How do I know if I need male to male cables or male to female? | Answer: As a rule, consumer electronics devices ALWAYS have female ports on them. (a protruding male connector would break off too easily) So, for connecting two devices together, you need a male to male cable.
Male to female cables are used to extend existing cables. |

| | HDMI cables | Pros: got the length I wanted
Cons: they don't work
this is the 2nd time I've purchased 50' HDMI cables from Monoprice. The first time one of them worked and one did not. I thought it was my equipment, but since ordering 2 more 50' cables the same thing has happened. I've learned there can be a handshake problem between the gear and the cable.
Burned again.
by Monoprice Administrator Hi Greg,
Thank you for your review on PID 2110. My sincere apologies for the inconvenient experience you have faced with this HDMI cable. If I may ask, what devices were you looking to connect with the cables? Have you tested the cables with any other devices to see if the issues persist? What about with a different HDMI port on the display? Also, what resolution did you want to achieve with this setup? Please let me know so I can best assist you in resolving this issue. Thank you in advance!

| | One fat cable!!! | Pros: Its a really fat cable, which usually means it will last a lifetime of abuse
Cons: Its a really fat cable which means it is a heavy load on a small plug on the camcorder. Worried about damage to the camcorder.
It works.
by Monoprice Administrator Hi Paul,
Glad to hear you are enjoying PID 2110! If you are connecting directly from the camcorder to a display, we do carry a 50ft redmere which is thinner than the 24 AWG PID 2110, without losing signal strength.

| | Either poor cable or poor splitter | Pros: Heavy duty. Seems to be good quality.
Cons: Ultimately didn't work for my application
I purchased this cable to use with my Monoprice Splitter (item 7972). I made all my connections, but no matter how I configured the system, I could not get a signal from the other end of this HDMI cable. Perhaps 50' is just too long to attempt to push HDMI through the Monoprice splitter.
As I titled, I'm not sure if the problem lies in the cable or the splitter. I may try a shorter cable and see if that works for me.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Tom,
Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the experience you have had with PID 2110. If I may ask, were you able to test the cable with any other devices such as a direct connection between a source (cable box, gaming console, Bluray player, etc.) to a display? What resolution was tried? Can we try other resolutions to see if that makes any difference? Please let me know your results so we can look into the matter further. Thank you!

by Tom Coyan Hi Gabby, I have not had time yet to try another cable in the Splitter, or a direct connection with this cable. I will do so, and when I do, will appropriately adjust my review. :)
As to resolution, I tried both 1080p and 720p.
Thanks, Tom
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Tom,
Okay, great. :] Please note that since PID 2110 is a standard speed HDMI cable, it is rated to support up to 720p/1080i. It is possible for this cable to pass a 1080p signal however it would ultimately depend on the overall setup such as the specific source and display connected. For a high speed 50ft HDMI cable, our only option at this time would be our Redmere series cable such as PID 9172 ( http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=102&cp_id=10255&cs_id=1025507&p_id=9172&seq=1&format=2&rep=gab ). Sorry for the trouble and should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us!

by Tom Coyan Ah, that makes sense! Thanks for the clarification.
