Premium 3D Printer Filament PLA 1.75MM 1kg/spool, Blue
Get outstanding 3D printing results when you use 1.75mm PLA 3D Printer Filament from Monoprice!
PLA is a good choice for a printing material if you are looking for high accuracy and high resolution. It extrudes at lower temperatures, does not require a heated base, and has a very low shrinkage rate (0.3%). PLA is harder than ABS, but is therefore also a bit more brittle. Additionally, PLA is a plant-based plastic, which means that it is biodegradable and gives off a slightly sweet odor, like roasting corn.
This 1 Kg spool features a thickness of 1.75mm ±0.10mm, with a roundness variation of only 0.03mm. It has a nominal processing temperature of 210° C (410°F). Thickness and roundness factors are laser measured at the factory to ensure accuracy over the entire length of the filament.
The negatives of using PLA is that it is vulnerable to degradation from moisture, sunlight, and heat. Additionally, it is more prone to overheating during processing, which can cause dripping and drooping if it gets too hot.

| | update to other review | if you run it at 190-200, the material is a matte finish. if you run it at 230, it's a more translucent gloss blue. If you run this in a makerbot, put a tiny bit of vegetable oil on the end of the filament when you feed it through. it's magic. i had a makerbot that would jam every 10 minutes. a little vegetable oil, and it ran non stop for 6 hours without a hiccup

| | bought this by accident, wanted abs | Pros: low price , consistent quality
Cons: had to respool it, hole is too small for makerbot spools (or print a new hub)
it voids your makerbot warranty, but good luck proving it (deny deny deny)
makerbot defaults at 230degrees C, and this starts to melt at 175. with default settings, i will drip out on occasion, and make lots of hairs. I found setting the makerware to 200 degrees and 80mm/min made pretty consistent prints that jammed less

| | Excellent filament | Pros: Smooth extrusion, no jams or problems during use
Cons: none
I have used several different Monoprice filament colors and my experience with all of them has been great. Some filaments can cause problems or needs fine tuning to get good results, but I have had zero issues with Monoprice filament. It extrudes smoothly and evenly at a variety of temperatures, and looks great. Extra point for being some of the most affordable filament out there, as well.

| | Cool as Ice | Pros: Half the price of Makerbot filament, cool translucent appearance
Cons: Not 1.75mm, closer to 1.65mm, flimsy, harder to feed
My opinions are based on having a Makerbot Replicator 2, not a RepRap or tech junkie variant that I'm willing to hack around with. I'm spoiled, and compare everything to the Makerbot. This filament works as well as the black 1.75mm PLA I bought in the same order. First print job was a complex once-piece roller bearing and it finished without any issues. I'm noticing with all of the Monoprice filament that it's thinner than the MakerBot brand. Feeding it into the extruder takes a little more care so that you don't kink it while pushing it past the drive wheel. The spool hole is also 39mm instead of 58mm, so a 58mm spindle obviously won't fit. I printed a 39mm spindle before using this. Monoprice should start using the 58mm spool to better compete with Makerbot. It would also be easier to print hub reducers than a spindle
