Premium 3D Printer Filament PLA 3MM 1kg/spool, Black
Get outstanding 3D printing results when you use 3.0mm PLA 3D Printer Filament from Monoprice!
PLA is a good choice for a printing material if you are looking for high accuracy and high resolution. It extrudes at lower temperatures, does not require a heated base, and has a very low shrinkage rate (0.3%). PLA is harder than ABS, but is therefore also a bit more brittle. Additionally, PLA is a plant-based plastic, which means that it is biodegradable and gives off a slightly sweet odor, like roasting corn.
This 1 Kg spool features a thickness of 3.0mm ±0.10mm, with a roundness variation of only 0.03mm. It has a nominal processing temperature of 185° C (365°F). Thickness and roundness factors are laser measured at the factory to ensure accuracy over the entire length of the filament.
The negatives of using PLA is that it is vulnerable to degradation from moisture, sunlight, and heat. Additionally, it is more prone to overheating during processing, which can cause dripping and drooping if it gets too hot.

| | Consistent, great for large prints | Pros: Very consistent. Do not have to tweak settings for every new spool.
Great for large prints.
Great price, fast delivery, always in stock.
Cons: Have to run the nozzle hotter than with other PLAs to ensure first layer adhesion and to avoid cracking on large prints.
This is my go-to filament for my TAZ 4. Very consistent in its properties. The spool is plastic and of better quality than most price comparable PLAs. You can can use the filament to the end of the spool.

| | Honestly great PLA.. | Pros: Cheap, almost half the price of higher quality 4043D.
Consistent, clean of defects.
Cons: It is a lot more "stringy" than some high quality PLA, meaning that it is more likely to string during travel moves without increasing retraction distance. It's almost more like a cobweb effect, really. Also as some have said it is a bit tricky to get it to stick well to the bed, But I've been having positive results with level glass heated to 60C with a few coats of hairspray.
I'm more than happy with the results I've been getting form this PLA. For close to half the price of higher quality 4043D it prints great. I use it for mass-producing Kossel Mini kits at high speeds and extrude it at 200C with an E3D hotend, at those temps I have not had ANY issues with delamination of layers, These parts are STRONG!! I haven't encountered any major variations in filament diameter or any cavities or excessive moisture, just clean, consistent prints. Also, if you happen to have one of those printrbot spool rollers laying around, just add a couple M4 washers to the screws on either side and it should be wide enough to fit this spool!

| | OK Filament - For the Price | Pros: Cheap. Seems to be of fairly consistent diameter. Excellent Monoprice service and fast shipping.
Cons: Does not always stick well to build platform, where other (more expensive) PLA sticks every time. Warps more than other PLA.
This filament has a rough texture to it, though that doesn't seem to affect the output. Extrudes fine for the most part. Probably worth it to spend a little more and get higher quality stuff, though this stuff is OK for the price.

| | Works | Pros: It prints fine, generally.
Cons: Somewhat brittle, sometimes cracks between the spool and extruder if it's cold out.
Lowest price PLA, prints fine.

| | Great Filament | Pros: Price
Filament Quality/Consistency
Cons: Spool hole isn't large enough for stock Ultimaker spool holder
I have experience using 3D printer filament from Ultimaker, Matter Hackers, and Ultimachine and this black filament is as good as ultimachine and matter hacker filament. Specifically the black material is as good and maybe slightly better than Black Pro Series PLA filament from matter hackers, but at a much cheaper price.
I use an Ultimaker printer and I would suggest using a higher temperature than recommended for the black PLA filament (210C). I have not used the other colors so 185C might work better with those colors. This is from my experience of going through 2 spools of this filament.
The only negative is the spool hole diameter is too small to fit the stock ultimaker spool holder. I have to either re-spool it or use an alternative holder. The flament is also more tightly wound at the end of the spool than Ultimachine or Ultimaker filament due to the smaller spool diameter so it's slightly harder to feed when reaching the end of the spool.
Overall I am very impressed with the quality of this filament and will definitely buy more filament from monoprice in the future. I have not tried the white or red colored filament yet. Hopefully monoprice gets more color variety in the future.
