Mini FM Transmitter
So you love listening to your own music, but don't have an auxiliary port or tape deck in your car? What you need is this Mini FM Transmitter from Monoprice!
This FM transmitter can transmit the selected FM frequency to your car's radio in order to play music from your smartphone or MP3 player. Simply select an open radio frequency on the FM transmitter, and tune your radio to the same frequency. Any music played through the transmitter will play through your car's sound system.
The transmitter can be tuned to any FM frequency between 88.1 ~ 107.9 MHz at 0.1 MHz intervals. It has a frequency response of 20Hz ~ 16KHz and an effective range of about 5 meters.
The FM transmitter's 3.5mm plug can be used to connect to most smartphones and MP3 players' headphone jack. It uses your car's cigarette lighter/auxiliary power socket for power, so you don't have to worry about the battery dying during your favorite song.

-
Works with almost any smartphone or mp3 player

| | works perfect | Pros: bargain buy
I don't know why some people have said this thing doesn't work great. it works perfect in my car! and the sound quality is pretty darn good for a FM transmitter! I haven't noticed any static noise and the station that I have set it to, the sound is clear.

| | Ehhh, It's... ok. | Pros: Powerful enough to work on stations that aren't completely quiet Sound quality is good Fairly long cable Bright display Inexpensive
Cons: Must stay plugged in to work, literally 0 battery life (is there even a battery?) High-pitched squeal just loud enough to be heard over the road when the audio is paused or at a quiet spot
After my old FM transmitter (different brand, similar price range) gave out, I decided to check if Monoprice had one. They do, but this transmitter has a few shortcomings. Whenever it's plugged in (and I'm tuned to the frequency), there is a constant, high-pitched wail. It tends to get drowned out by whatever music or (in my case) podcast is playing, but any time the talking pauses and any time I don't have anything playing, it's annoyingly audible.
It also apparently does not have a battery. The description says, "Includes car charging cable adapter with an additional USB charging port," which implies pretty strongly that the device itself benefits from the charging cable. The manual also says that it will turn off after a few minutes of non-use. But alas, it shuts off the instant I unplug it from the car. Maybe mine sat in a warehouse for too long?
On the other hand, the sound quality's fine, and it doesn't have any trouble overcoming the staticky, only-half-empty stations we have around here.
So, if you're ok with something that you have to plug and unplug every time you start and turn off the car, and if you listen to music or other audio with little dead air so it doesn't "squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" at you, it gets the job done.

| | Product manual misleading | Pros: Works OK with some static.
Cons: No internal batteries. Must be plugged into 12v socket which adds noise.
Sound not as "bright" as other FM transmitters using same settings on tablet and radio.
As near as I can tell, the device does *not* have an internal battery. As such, it is not being "charged" but "powered" by the 12v plug. I was looking for a device that can run on its own, internal battery. Plugging into the 12v socket of the car introduces engine ignition noise that you hear as static.
Page 3 of the manual at the bottom has a section titled "Charging". It says "To charge the FM transmitter...". But if you unplug it, it turns off. The next sentence says "This device can also be charged ...", yet there is no charge input port and the wires are not removable. Clearly this is totally incorrect and very misleading.
I would exchange it for the other FM transmitter you sell but that appears to have the same limitations and also the problem of no dongle for the input jack. The tablet I want to use this FM transmitter with, requires a cord as the other FM transmitter is too bulky to be plugged directly into the tablet.
Hope in the future you will sell a device like this one that has replaceable AA batteries.

| | Disappointing | Pros: Cheap Includes a USB slot to charge off 1 cigarette slot
Cons: Poor quality
I bought one of these a couple years ago and it was serviceable as a cheap alternative. It ended up breaking due to wire separation after a couple years of normal usage. So I bought a new one recently but I feel that the quality has decreased. I have occasional connection issues that I suspect are related to the 3.5mm jack not completely bridging with the jack in my phone. It also seems that the overall signal to noise quality has degraded noticeably.
All in all now I kind of wish I had just tried something a little nicer.

| | Great Transmitter | Pros: Easy to set up!
Cons: None that I can think of!
I had a transmitter that had a lot of interference and only three stations to set my Ipod to work thru the radio stereo....this product had several options and allowed me to find a station that did not have any radio interference. Works great!
