A lens hood serves several purposes. Most obviously it prevents side lighting from hitting the lens and causing glare or exposure problems. Less obvious is physical protection. When outdoors in windy and/or rainy conditions, the lens hood can help prevent moisture or airborne debris from coming into contact with the lens. Additionally, in the event the lens is dropped or bumped into a wall, the inexpensive lens hood will take damage instead of your expensive lens.

This lens hood is designed to screw onto the standard 58mm filter thread on the front of a lens. The hood is cylindrically shaped and extends about 3/4". The inside of the hood is sized and knurled so that the Monoprice 58mm Center Pinch Lens Cap will fit down inside the hood and firmly grip the sides to stay in place.
