15ft USB 3.0 A Male to A Female Active Extension Cable
Take USB 3.0 to new lengths with this USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable from Monoprice!
With data transfer rates up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0, USB 3.0 is quickly gaining in popularity. However, although it has a higher voltage and current level, passive cables are still limited to a maximum length less than 15 feet.
This Active Extension Cable draws power from the USB 3.0 bus and uses it to boost and regenerate the data signals, ensuring that full SuperSpeeds can be maintained to much longer lengths. By combining two of these extension cables with a 3 meter passive cables a total length of 13 meters (42.6 feet).
This 5 meter (16.4 foot) cable is backwards compatible with all previous USB versions and any USB equipped device. It has a USB 3.0 A male connector on one end and a USB 3.0 A female port on the other end. Per the USB 3.0 spec, the plastic inside each connector is colored blue to distinguish it from connectors designed for previous USB versions.

Ignore the reviews that state "it won't power my device" blah, blah...
I went through many "passive" (regular) USB extension cables before purchasing this "Active" USB 3 cable.
I tried to avoid using "active" cables due to the difference in price from the non-active cables.
Big mistake. You cannot have a USB cable longer that about 9-10 feet (usually 9) before you start having serious errors if the cable works for your device at all.
Too many people are buying the cable and trying to run USB devices that can be powered by the USB power.
YOU CAN NOT DO THAT ON AN ACTIVE CABLE! The reason the cable is active is because it's USING the power from the USB3 port to run a repeater in the cable. This is what makes it capable of being the length it is without a problem.
You therefore can only use this USB cable with:
1) Devices that require extremely low power (e.g. USB memory sticks)
2) Externally Powered USB HUBS
That's how it's SUPPOSED to work.
I placed my SiiG USB 3 externally powered Hub on the end of this cable and connected a Rosewill UASP capable HDD enclosure with a 3TB SATA III drive installed. It recognized the USB3 Hub, and the drive, and then my PC connected to the SATA III Drive using UASP ove USB 3 and the speed was BLAZING fast, as expected.
Of course all other USB devices worked flawlessly too. Many WITHOUT the powered hub.
(Of course all those devices were VERY low power USB memory sticks.)
PROS: This cable is very well built and generally high quality.
Excellent, firm connectors.
CONS: Too many people review this cable as "poor" or "so-so" because they don't understand how USB works, or the power requirements for their USB devices and what it means to USB power when you use an "ACTIVE" cable.
(Which at these lengths, you -must- use an active cable for USB 3 devices to work correctly!)
PROS: works with, usually difficult to match, sony wifi range extender. effective and affordable.
CONS: i only needed one
