DVI Video + Digital Coaxial and Digital Optical Audio to HDMI® Converter

Connect a legacy HD video device or your computer's video and audio output to an HDMI-equipped HDTV using this DVI Video + Digital Coaxial and Digital Optical Audio to HDMI® Converter from Monoprice!

Before the nearly universal adoption of HDMI, many HD devices were released with a DVI video output. Additionally, many computer video cards are equipped with DVI outputs, instead of HDMI. This adapter allows you to combine the video signal from a DVI video source with either a Digital Coaxial or Digital Optical Audio output into an HDMI audio/video signal for use with an HDTV or HDMI-equipped AV receiver.

I bought this to convert an audio signal from optical to SPDIF with the option to use video conversion in the future. Looks like my assumption that it will convert audio signal from one format to the other without video involved was incorrect. Not really fault of the device, but it is disappointing to not have it work out after the costly cross border duties and shipping fees.

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear PID 5369 did not work out for your needs. We do offer PID 2948 instead which is an optical Toslink to Coaxial converter:

My apologies for the trouble and I hope this helps. Should you have any questions regarding our products, please don't hesitate to contact our tech support team via live chat or email at

Pros: Does what its supposed to do pretty well. Was not hard to hookup. Connected my PC to my 40" Sony with a 50 Ft Redmere. HDMI cable. Allowed me to watch all the videos stored on my external hard drive.

Cons: Unit failed, just out of warranty after about 13 1/2 months. Rather unfortunate.

Works as advertised

Pros: * removes HDCP encoding from input source
* allows re-mixing of audio and video from split sources (necessary as DVI input will not preserve audio)

Cons: * would be much nicer if it was just a simple HDCP+ HDMI in - HDCP- HDMI out, but we have to what we have to do to prevent our own works from being assimilated by the HDCP miasma.

I bought this device specifically because other owners had commented that it removes HDCP encoding from the DVI input, and because it allows you to "mix" the video signal from the DVI input with a provided audio signal via toslink or coax.

In my case, my goal was to be able to capture the video and audio from my phone via Miracast wireless. My initial setup was a simple HDMI connection from my Miracast receiver through a 2 channel HDMI splitter and on to the capture card in my PC. Unfortunately, my capture card is HDMI compliant, which means it respects HDCP encoding and would allow pass-through for viewing but would not record from an HDCP encoded source.

In order to solve this, I bought a splitter that would allow me to split the audio and video signal from the Miracast receiver and then use those as inputs for this converter. The converter removes the HDCP encoding and re-mixes the audio/video signal before sending it as output. I'm now able to record the video and audio from my phone without any more HDCP road blocks.

Pros: It comes in a nice box. Presentation is pretty. I'm does what it says it does.

Cons: It DOES NOT strip HDCP from hdmi. Don't listen to all the other reviews, this item doesn't do what they say it does. It will just be a waste of money.

Good product, but doesn't strip HDCP like all the other reviews said.

HDMI Converter Review

Pros: Strips the HDCP protection from media devices

Cons: -Large Footprint
-Only S/PDIF audio input/output (had to buy another converter to change the sound connection from RCA to SPDIF)

This item does what I bought it to do: It strips the HDCP protection from my PS3/PS4 to be able to capture my gameplay using the Elgato Gamecapture HD.
