USB 3.0 Five Slot Card Reader - CF/ SD/ MS/ xD/ microSD & M2

Read and write your flash memory cards at SuperSpeed with this USB 3.0 Five Slot Card Reader from Monoprice!

As flash memory cards have gotten larger and faster, the USB 2.0 interface has fallen behind the times. The newer USB 3.0 SuperSpeed specification provides for speeds up to 10x faster than USB 2.0, making it a much less tedious process to copy 64GB of music to a memory card.

This USB 3.0 card reader has slots for MicroSD/M2, SD, MS/MS Duo, CF, and xD cards, meaning that the popular Micro SD card can read/written without the use of an SD card adapter. The full list of supported cards is listed below. The reader is compatible with all versions of Windows from 2000 forward and all versions of Apple Mac OS X from 10.2 forward.

No software or installation is required. Just plug the reader into an available USB 3.0 (or earlier) port and plug in your memory card. The reader measures about 3.3" x 2.0" x 0.6" and comes with a short USB 3.0 cable.

Fast reads/writes, second time's the charm

Pros: Fast Reads & Writes over USB 3.0

Cons: First unit was unable to read over 5MB/s. Returned for RMA.
Cable plugged in to device pops out very easily - not a robust connection.

The first one that showed up was unable to achieve speeds faster than 5 MB/s. (tested in multiple ports USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and with multiple cables)
Replaced via Monoprice RMA. Return process was very simple, with fast turn-around.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS ONLY: (this test is what I observed when first testing it, not over long-term use)
My Card: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC 64GB card, rated at 95MB/s.
My Files: 129 raw photos at approximately 25MB each.

Reading From Card: Approximately 80 MB/s, sustained.
Writing to Card: Approximately 70 MB/s, sustained.

Note: Tested with both the 12 inch cable that came with the card, and also with a 10 ft Monoprice USB cable of similar robust-feeling quality. Same results for both.
Not tested: Anything else.

Conclusion: I'm very happy with the observed speeds copying to/from this card! That's what I bought it for!

Pros: I bought a new PC that does not have the xD slot, which I needed. Hooked up this new reader and downloaded all of my xD cards in a few minutes.

Cons: It should come with a 2' or 3' USB cable, but the short one(- 1 point)it comes with works if you don't have to go over 14" to the 3.0 USB plug-in.

Long term

Pros: Read cards for a while

Cons: Long term (1 year) not good. Killed 3 SD cards now. Kind of my fault for not realizing the reader was doing that sooner.

Started flaking out pretty early. Would keep disconnecting and reconnecting. By using it, I just bricked 3 SD cards. One was a few days ago, and it was old so not unexpected. I just tried reading 2 more, both working perfectly fine in our camera. Tried to read the cards to verify I had all pics pulled off, and instantly corrupted both cards. Tried another card in a different reader in the same PC, works fine. Those two cards still don't work.

Thank you for your review on PID 9977. My apologies for the experience you have had with this card reader. If I may ask, do you happen to have the order number for that purchase? I can check if we are within warranty for a replacement as we cover this product with a one year warranty. Please let me know so I can best assist you and thank you in advance!

It's way out of warranty. Thought about it more, and the order was likely 2-3 year ago.
