    67mm UV Filter

Protect your lens and block excessive UV light with this UV Filter from Monoprice!

The primary use for a UV filter is in reducing the amount of ultraviolet light that reaches your film or digital image sensor. Older film was particularly susceptible to UV light, but newer film stocks are relatively immune, as are digital image sensors. However, at higher altitudes, the UV light can affect the resulting photograph.

Nowadays a UV filter is primarily used as a protective device for expensive lenses. When taking photos in outdoor environments, it is better to get dust, twigs, and rain on an inexpensive UV filter than on your expensive lens. Additionally, if the lens is dropped or smacked up against a wall, it is better to let the filter take the fall than your lens.

This filter fits a standard 67mm threaded filter mount on the end of a lens or filter adapter. It comes in a reusable, snap-latch plastic case with foam to protect the filter and keep it from sliding around inside the case.

    looks great, screw on tight

Pros: great price, no visible defects

Cons: there should be more threads. It can easily fall off if you don't screw it on tightly

    good value, see above

    Good, thin UV Filter

    Pros: Thin

Works well and seems like good quality. About 5.5mm total thickness and the visible ring (once installed) is about 3.9mm. Before this I had a generic "ultra-thin" UV filter that measured about the same but the front threads were so shallow the lens cap would not stay on securely. No such problems with this Monoprice filter. The one possible concern is that it only screws onto my lens (Nikon 18-200mm) about 1/2 turn before becoming tight. It seems very snug and like it should not loosen on it's own but with only 1/2 turn before it would fall off and hit the ground I hope it stays in place.

    Use as perpetual lens protector

Well constructed metal frame. I use these as a protector of the lens, remove when needed otherwise, will improve your experience since it is far less expensive to replace than the lens itself.

    Foggy images

Pros: Cheap UV lens cover that will protect your expensive glass from scratches.

Cons: Distorts or otherwise makes images appear hazy. Still the case even after ensuring the lens is fully clean.

I was initially thrilled to find a well priced UV filter I could throw over my existing lens to protect it from kicks and scratches. I was disappointed, however, to find all images taken with the filter to be hazy. After checking the filter, cleaning and snapping some more shots I had to discontinue use as the images produced were unacceptable.

    Hello Zenzo,

Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 10181. A shame this didn't work out for your needs.. Now if you no longer have a need for it, I can help setup an RMA for a return. If you would like me to proceed with the RMA, all I would need is the order # this filter is under. Sorry again for the trouble and hope this helps!

    67mm UV filter *** UPDATE ***

    Pros: None unfortaunely

Cons: Wrote a review and stated that the threads were too shallow to catch the 70-200mm L lens but worked on the 100mm Macro . . . . I was wrong. Although it seemed to work, I pulled it out the other day and it just fell off . . . . not enough thread, possibly just the one I recieved, possibly not. Just a heads up (the 67mm CPL - No problem)

    See cons . . . . . .
