Why buy your band instruments from Monoprice?

Many school band directors reflexively dismiss band instruments made in China, preferring to point parents to the entry-level instruments from the major brands. This ignores the fact that the entry-level instruments from the major brands are also made in China!

The country of origin therefore is NOT an indicator of the quality of an instrument and whether it will sound and play properly. One of the best indicators of an instrument's quality however, is how well the company stands behind their instruments.

Monoprice stands behind EVERY product we sell with a 30-day money back guarantee. If for any reason you are unhappy with your purchase, return it within 30 days for a full refund.

Additionally we stand behind every instrument we sell with a 1 year warranty. If the performance of the instrument changes over time, if you notice a problem that you didn't notice before, if it breaks from normal use, simply return it and receive a new replacement in exchange.

So do not be dissuaded by naysayers, who admittedly have not tried Monoprice Pro Audio products! You can purchase with total confidence that your investment will not be wasted and that the investment will be considerably less than if the instrument wears a major name brand logo.

Works great for my 7th grader

Pros: Reasonable price, good quality

Cons: Case smells bad at first

I bought this for my 7th grade daughter to replace one that she lost. We purchased her original flute at a local music store at a cost several times higher than the monoprice flute. She says this one is almost as good. We've spent almost as much as the cost of the monoprice flute on a single repair to her original flute. Pretty clear that this is the way to go until she's a little older and more careful.

Good for marching band

Pros: Affordable. Seems to be of good construction. Looks like a decent beginner flute.

Cons: As other reviewers noted, the case strap has a strong chemical smell.

I was seeking a basic entry level instrument that would be suitable to use in a marching band. It's a gift so I'll need to update my review once the recipient (an experienced flutist) has a chance to put it through its paces.
The flute comes with each piece in a plastic bag stored safely in the provided case. As other reviewers have noted, the case smellsoff gassing plastic/rubber smells. As was suggested in response to one of the other reviews, I left the case air for nearly two weeks now and the smell really hasn't dissipated noticeably. So I'd say this is the only negative.

Pros: Purchased this flute for my kids band class. Sounds great! No issues or imperfections since purchase. Very happy with my purchase...would recommend!

Cons: The Monoprice flute case does have a "chemical" smell initially, however after opening it does go away after a day or two. Flute itself is great!

Okay for beginners

Pros: Decent sound, key action was good.

Cons: Again, I think if your child sticks with flute, they will outgrow this very quickly. If you are trying it out and don't wan to go the way of the rental route, this flute will pay for itself in 4-5 months (about half the time it will take to figure out if your son/daughter sticks with the flute).
Agree wit h previous reviewer that the strap smell was awful. It took longer than overnight to go away.

I would say it is of decent quality. Certainly would be good for a beginner but my daughter would have outgrown this very quickly. Key action seemed decent, and sounded decent as well.

We did end up returning this as my daughter was past the point of knowing if she was going to stick with it. She rented for another few months and we bought a lower intermediate flute that she will be able to grow into for years.

Pros: Inexpensive
High quality
GREAT sound

Cons: none that I can think of

I bought 3 of these flutes for my step daughter and she loves them. I bought one as I was skeptical at first and wanted to make sure this was a quality instrument, have NO WORRIES it really is as good as ANY student flute you will find out there. I bought her 3 of these for HALF the cost of one student flute at the music center where she takes lessons! If you are in the market DO NOT pass this up!!!!!
