    Microphone Isolation Shield

Ambient and reflected sound can be a problem when recording acoustic and vocal tracks, especially in a "live" studio environment. Block unwanted sounds from entering your microphone by using this Microphone Isolation Shield from Monoprice!

This acoustic shield features an acoustic foam front and a vented metal back plate, which allows the microphone to "breathe" and prevents reflections within the arc of the shield. It uses a dual clamp mounting bracket, which attaches to booms or stands up to 1 1/4" in diameter. The two outer panels can be folded inward for storage or for creating a tighter acoustic isolation chamber.

The shield features a standard 3/8" microphone threaded mount and includes a 3/8" to 5/8" thread adapter. The shield can be used in a normal upright orientation or can be inverted, so that the microphone hangs down inside the chamber. All assembly and mounting hardware is included.

When folded for storage the shield measures about 17.3" x 15.4" x 5.5". When extended for use it measures about 23.5" x 15.4" x 11.0".

    Well Worth The Price
This isolation shield is made well. For the price I was actually expecting lesser quality, but this thing blows away the isolation shield that is for sale at my local music store. In quality and price alone (by about $40).

    PROS: No cheap materials used
covers a lot of space for isolation
    looks clean and sharp
    does its job well
even comes with the tools if you don't have them

CONS: Some people may say it's a bit too heavy, non issue for me.

Use on your desk or get a really strong mic stand
First off. I do really love this product. I gave it a five, but it could have been a four, because the overall weight is significant and might be too heavy for mounting on a lesser quality stand. With that said, if you have the hardware to handle the weight, get this. The all metal construction is what makes it heavy, but it's also what makes it bullet-proof. The four feet make it nearly perfect for a podcaster who works from a desk. I use it in my home studio, but I have some really heavy duty stands and booms that can bear the weight. It does a great job isolating the mic from ambient room effects.. The side panels are adjustable so you can make the sound as intimate as you need. There is a bit of trouble tightening the side panels so that they don't tend to move, but that is a minor complaint. Also, since the desk feet are part of the tightening system for the side panels, they can't be removed to reduce weight.

    PROS: Good isolation
    Side panels are adjustable
    Folds for easier storage
    Solidly built

    CONS: Pretty heavy
Might overwhelm a light duty mic stand

    Solid Well Built
Waited a good couple of months for this Mic isolation shield to get restocked and after checking out the flimsy all plastic shield at Guitar Center for $99.00 I just knew this was the way to go. It's all metal so forget about mounting it on a mic stand, even with sandbags and look into a 10ft heavy duty photographic light stand instead. For about the same amount of money as a decent mic stand the light stand I mounted it on is perfect, the setup up is solid as a rock. The only Con was the thread on one of the bottom legs was stripped, you'd tighten it and it would just pop loose so keep that in mind, but there was just enough of the bolt available to attach a nut to it and in my case it's fine. You can, for around $275.00 get a better shield but for the construction and the price you can't beat this one in my opinion. Another great deal from Monoprice.

PROS: All metal, solid construction, easy to assemble

CONS: Threaded hole on one of the legs was stripped, won't tighten securely.

    Surprised and pleased
I must say, I was blown away by the build quality of this isolation shield. I want to say "at this price", but that would be misleading, as there is nothing "low price" about it - It's well-made, effective, and looks great in my studio. As others have said, the description is misleading when it mentions mounting it to a mic stand - it's too heavy for that, and it's obvious that the brackets were designed to mount to a pole of a larger diameter, like a speaker stand - and that's exactly what I used, which was perfect.. Bottom line: my musician friends can't believe what I paid for this isolation mount, and have asked me to send them a link!

PROS: Very well made and nice looking

CONS: None, really, except that the product description copy needs to be edited.

    Great for the price
It is a great and sturdy product. Was a little shock when it frist came in. It felt like a $200 product.

PROS: Great for the price, it's better then buying $200-300 ones

CONS: Not enough instruction but was able to figure it out.

Works, but I modded it for better balance
This isolation shield really does what it's supposed to. When I got it, I did a little test where I recorded a short section of a song with guitar, banjo, upright bass and a vocal, and then recorded it again using the shield. Noticeable improvement all around (this was a home recording in a basically untreated room). Then I took it into my professional studio and used it for an acoustic guitar/vocal recording to try to get better separation on the two mics - it worked well for that as well.

Unfortunately, the shield is very heavy, as noted in other reviews. On its own that's not a huge problem, but when you put it on a stand, you'll notice that because the bracket attaches to the back of the shield, the whole thing wants to tip forward. If you use the extender arm for your microphone, the problem gets worse - everything's unbalanced in the same direction. So I decided to modify mine - I removed the bracket, used a razor blade to cut out a little bit of the foam in the middle of the shield (exactly opposite where the bracket attaches in the back), and re-attached the bracket inside the shield. Now, when I attach it to the stand, it balances much better. I've decided to forego the use of the microphone arm and just use the shield on its own dedicated mic stand (the microphone is on a separate stand). Much easier to move around, place where you want it, etc. I use a straight (no boom) tripod mic stand for the shield and a boom stand for the mic. Hope this helps you!

PROS: Really works. Cleans up the sound.

    CONS: Heavy & unbalanced.

    Good Value
    5/5

PROS: This is definitely effective. I used it for the first time a few days ago recording a sax. It really minimized room reflections. It's a good value and well built.

CONS: It's heavy, which is not really a con. Be sure to mount it on a very sturdy stand.

    Excellent
I love this thing, I bought the mic stand to go with this from monoprice, unfortunately the stand will not support its weight. Looking for alternatives to support it. Very useful product.

    PROS: Quality construction

    Great value

    Performance

CONS: Extension arm bends a bit from heavy mic

    Just what the doctor ordered.
Perfectly capable utility at a price that can't be passed up.

PROS: Solidly constructed, minimal assembly required.

CONS: Overall weight can tip over even a sturdy mic stand, so be adaptable (or have dumbells at the ready for counterweight).
