    Omnidirectional Capsule for 600700 Microphone

This Omnidirectional condenser capsule is designed to fit the Monoprice Small-Diaphragm Condenser Microphones (PID 600700). The Omnidirectional capsule tends to have better low-frequency response and a smoother response curve across all frequencies than a Cardioid capsule.

Although in theory an omnidirectional polar pattern will pickup sounds equally well from all directions, the presence of the microphone body will tend to reduce a microphone's ability to pickup sounds from the rear as the sound wavelength approaches the diameter of the microphone body. Given that the diameter of the 600700 mic is about 7/8" (22mm), there will be a slightly reduced rear pickup at around 15-16 KHz.

An Omnidirectional polar pattern is well suited for use as an ambient room mic, as a vocal mic for multiple singers (e.g., a choir), and in situations where you want to pickup all the reflected sounds inside an small space.

This item is sold as one individual capsule.

A useful addition to the condenser mic pair

Pros: Really nice pick up range, great for recording conversation without the mic in your face.

Cons: Really rough threads make it hard to install, easy to cross-thread.

I haven't done extensive testing with this capsule but so far I am really pleased with the warm sound and it seems to have a very useful pickup range it doesn't pick up every little noise in the room, which is really nice when you don't have control over the recording environment.

    Pros: - Works as advertised

    Cons: - None

Fits great on the small condenser microphones I got from Monoprice. I got them as a "just in case" I needed replacements.

    Pros: Good sound.

    Cons: Difficult to install.

Very rough threads make these capsules a challenge to install. First, it's difficult to remove the stock capsules. Then it's tricky to thread these onto the mic body. A little lube and some patience both help. It's worth it. For testing, I used 2 mics on opposite sides of a Leslie speaker. Because of the spinning horn, capturing some "room" with the instrument is desirable. (This is in the studio, not live, where volume-before-feedback might be an issue.) These omni mics were perfect. I walked into the control room and was amazed - Best Hammond sound I've gotten in a long time. I've since used them in theater for on-stage dialog, and for jazz drums in the studio. Excellent value.

Pros: Interchangeable with small-diaphram condenser mic. Clean audio near or far.

Cons: Just worry about protecting the capsule.

Incredible abilty to mix and match audio needs. I do events that range from sports to ceremonies. Mix and match audio by using this capsule with others, eliminates muliple mikes!
Cut foam it comes in goes nicely in Monoprice hard shell case since I want to protect these small capsules. You can't beat the quality. I spent hundreds more on mikes that don't send as good as this!!

Pros: Low price, good build quality, decent tone, and added versatility for the 600700 mics.

Cons: At this price, none really.

I'd previously read that some of these capsules don't screw very well onto the 600700 housing, but these ones are good. I'm not an expert with small-diaphragm condensers, and I haven't done very extensive testing, but I'd say these ones sound decent. They're not quite as crisp as my AKG C1000S, but nonetheless I wouldn't hesitate to use them as drum overheads or acoustic guitar mics.

I think these, along with the 600700 microphones, are the perfect buy for people making "prosumer"-level recordings at home. Sometimes you just need quantity in your mic cabinet, e.g. when recording drums or piano or other multi-source acoustic instruments. In those cases, your one great vocal mic or electric guitar mic isn't going to cut it: you really need several solid mics for the task, even if they're unspectacular. These mics and capsules are a great way to be equipped for any task, and at an incredibly low price.
