Route 66 Modern Solid Body Electric Guitar - Vintage Sunburst

So what do you do if you have a successful product launch, like we've had with our Route 66 Vintage Solid Body Guitars? Well, if you're Monoprice you listen to customer feedback, make improvements, and release a new version that addresses those concerns. Enter the new Route 66 Modern Solid Body Electric Guitar from Monoprice!

The most obvious change is that we've eliminated the plastic pick guard and the plastic label around the pickup select switch. This allows you to see all of the beautiful finish of your choice, without being obscured by the plastic bits. In a bid to modern styling, we've sharpened the horn below the cutaway, giving an "edgier" look to the guitar body.

One of the standard complaints about the Vintage version was the quality of the strings. Not only have we increased the gauge from 0.009 to 0.010 inch on the high E string, but we are now using our coated strings, for increased durability as well as sonic excellence.

Finally, we adjusted the orientation of the volume and tone knobs. The entire knob assembly was rotated 90° counterclockwise so that the orientation of the knobs corresponds to the orientation and location of the pickups. So the neck pickup, which is on your left when wearing the guitar, is controlled by the leftmost knobs, while the bridge pickup (on the right) is controlled by the rightmost knobs.

The rest of the guitar remains the same as the Route 66 Vintage model. It is a full-sized, 22-fret guitar with a basswood archtop single-cutaway body, a bolt-on maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and chrome machine heads/tuning pegs. It uses two dual-coil humbuckers, which produce the distinctive sound used in southern rock, heavy metal, electric blues, reggae, and classic hard rock. A three-position switch on the body above the fingerboard allows you to easily select between the bridge and neck pups, or both together.

Before it gets shipped to you, each Monoprice guitar undergoes a setup, tuning, and inspection process by Master Luthier Roger Gresco here in Southern California. The setup ensures that the neck is straight, the action is right, and that it will stay in tune. Additionally, it comes with everything you need to get started, including strings (installed), a heavy-duty zippered black gig bag with shoulder strap, and a truss-rod wrench.

    Beautiful Guitar, Great Sound
I got my Strat, Tele, and Les Paul back in the 70's when I was in high school. They were relatively affordable back then. Fast forward to now. When I take my 1972 Les Paul t a gig, I never let it out of my sight. It's worth more than my car. I get the occasional guitar fan quizzing me about the guitar, licking his chops. I was going to retire Les from gigs and replace him an Epiphone until I saw the Monoprice guitars. I read the reviews and thought, what do I have to lose? So I got the Highway 66 and I have been impressed ever since it came out of the box. Flawless finish, perfect action, good sound and tone. I can now leave my 44 year old Les Paul safe at home, out of the peering eyes of hungry guitar nuts.

PROS: Flawless finish. Terrific sound. Great tone.

    CONS: None.

Just what I was looking for!!!
I was looking for an inexpensive guitar to keep at work to play at lunch and break. No way I was going to bring in my Fender American Standard for someone to trip over. Had no idea Monoprice sold guitars. Was a little hesitant to make the purchase originally. Looked to good to be true. For just over $100 and $5.99 overnight shipping I thought I would give it a chance. Received my guitar next day as promised. The guitar was double boxed and well packed. The gig bag that it comes with is similar to ones Guitar Center sells for $29.99. Making me feel even better about the price I paid. Once unpacked, I pulled my new "Work Axe" out of the gig bag and was very surprised by the quality. I would say that the finish on the guitar was as good or better than my Epiphone Les Paul. Was expecting a glorified toy guitar and after playing was blown away by the quality, tone and sustain. I was so impressed with my purchase that I bought the same model in the Goldtop (Beautiful finish and played just as well). I showed the Goldtop to the base player in our Band (www.86thavebluesband.com). He could not believe how much guitar I got for the price. Planning on bringing the Goldtop to our next practice to show the other members of the band. As long as Monoprice keeps offering competitive low prices on solid body guitars I may end up buying a few more to grace the walls off my home studio. If you are looking for a good guitar with value in mind you have come to the right place. Great buy, thanks Monoprice!

PROS: $5.99 overnight shipping, cant beat it!

    awesome customer service
    5/5

PROS: I just received my guitar a day before Christmas and I cannot express what great customer service you guys have.

I ordered the Vintage Sunburst and it came quickly but there was a little ding

due to shipping and you guys managed to ship me a replacement even though the item is currently on backorder until sometime in Jan. I got the replacement today, a day before Christmas eve and the replacement is flawless, Plays great and everything works. I own a Gibson Les Paul Standard and the rt.66 plays just as good and the price you cannot go wrong.

You even did a price adjust for me because the price dropped to $110.00 after I purchased mine for 139.00. So I purchased 2 great guitar stands with the difference. I thought that I would have to wait until after the new year for the replacement but you guys went above and beyond and got it here before Christmas. Thank you so much and keep up thr Great work with your customer service department. The quality of these guitars are Mind Blowing and I have been playing since 1983

    Bravo!!!

    Great Guitar
Unfortunately, I did not receive an inspection certificate with my guitar and the setup did need a bit of help. I was able to adjust the trussrod myself, and after some saddle adjustments the action is now what it should be. These are well made guitars and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a nice guitar at a nice price. The pickups sound really good too! Great job Monoprice! Maybe you could send me a pickguard for my trouble? Then I'll give it a 10! HA!

PROS: Looks great, plays great, built well.

    CONS: Nothing major.

Awesome for the price, good base for upgrades
Fast shipping, received within a week and arrived undamaged and in tune. Got the vintage sunburst. Nicely finished, not much wood grain in basswood, but still a good looking guitar and amazing quality for the price. Body and neck precisely and solidly joined. All frets smoothly polished with no fret buzz or dead frets. Poor strings, replaced with Ernie Ball skinny top heavy bottom. Tuners, bridge, pickups, posts, everything works as they should. Nothing looks cheap, it looks like quality though I know they're not really. Nonetheless, good tone, though I will eventually replace all the hardware and electronics in building a Slash clone. It’s so well-made, I have no problem investing $400 or so in this.

PROS: Very well made and set up-out of the box. Considering the price, plenty of room to upgrade components and still be well under the cost of an EPI, let alone an authentic LP

CONS: Slightly heavy compared to real Les Paul, but I only know this from a back-to-back comparison.

    Are you kidding me ?
First off, I'm a professional drummer/singer for over 40 years.
I have been a guitar "owner' for many years but never have the time to actually sit down and learn it.
I recently bought a beautiful acoustic and found these Monoprice LP's and ordered one and a Strat as well.
They arrived today and other than tuning them up, they are great. I'm bring them both to our rehearsal studio tonight for my guitarists to play them for a final Okie Dokie. No flaws, yes bags are cheapo and one has a small rip on the bottom, but who cares ?
I'll add more after a few weeks.

PROS: Great price and nice sounding. Well set up afaik

CONS: ZERO, okay...bags are meh, but I'll buy good ones.

    Awesome Guitar!
This is my second Route 66 Guitar from Monoprice, These Guitars are Just Simply Awesome, They Play like a Dream and They Sound Very Good. The Guitar Itself is a Piece of Art, Its Beautiful, No its not a Gibson Les Paul, but It Pretty Dang Close and for many many Dollars Less Its just a great Guitar. Like anything you buy New , such as Guitars, even though they have been set up at the Factory, They still need to be Set Up, But With both of the Route 66 Guitars I have Purchased, Set Up has been very little at all. I've been Playing since I was Eight Years Old, I'm 62 now and these Guitars are very Playable and very easy on the Eye and the Pocket. I will Buy maybe two more from Monoprice, I want one of the Teles. Give These a try, I don't Think You will be Disappointed at all. Happy Pickin!!!

PROS: Easy to Play, Good Sound, Great looks, Electronics are very Good, Its just a Great Guitar.

CONS: None that I have found!

BEST ANSWER: The Route 66 is slightly different from the LP. You will need to modify the pickguard.
