Retro Vision Solid Body Electric Guitar - Sunburst

With the versatility to play classic country, rock, blues, and jazz tones, you can make this Retro Vision Solid Body Electric Guitar the workhorse of your collection!

This full-sized, 22-fret, single cutaway electric guitar features two single-coil pickups and is capable of producing a wide range of tones. With the bridge pickup, you can get that bright, rich, cutting tone known as the country "twang" made famous by artists such as Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings. With the neck pickup you get a warmer, mellow, bluesy tone, such as that of Albert Collins or Muddy Waters. Additionally, rock musicians as diverse as Syd Barrett, Chrissy Hynde, and Keith Richards have found a way to make their own distinctive sound using this style of guitar.

The guitar is constructed with a basswood body, bolt-on maple neck, and rosewood fretboard. It features locking tuners and is strung using Monoprice's coated-steel strings (light, 0.010"). The chrome volume and tone knobs are accompanied by a three-position switch, which lets you select the neck or bridge pickup, or both.

Before it gets shipped to you, each Monoprice guitar undergoes a setup, tuning, and inspection process by Master Luthier Roger Gresco here in Southern California. The setup ensures that the neck is straight, the action is right, and that it will stay in tune. Additionally, it comes with everything you need to get started, including strings (installed), a heavy-duty zippered black gig bag with shoulder strap, and a truss-rod wrench.

    My 2nd Retrovision

Pros: Low cost outweighs any cons.

Cons: Maybe the bridge pickup could be better? I don't know. The neck pickup is sweet.

I like Monoprice guitars, and this is my 2nd Retrovision and 5th guitar overall. For $114 on sale, plus a 15% off code, this is fairly unbeatable. I got this and a California Classic in red for $176 combined, including shipping. That's an incredible deal. Collectors should stock up on these. If you think ahead 30 or 40 years, these could be real collectors' items. Anyway, these Retrovisions are fantastic very well done. Kudos Monoprice!

Potential to be a great guitar

    Pros: Sounds great
    Looks good
    Feels good
    Excellent value

Cons: broken nut after 1 week. A lot of buzz, but that might be from the nut.

First, I'm an intermediate player and I've been playing about 15 years. I own several USA guitars but sick of paying a premium every time. This Retrovision guitar arrived packaged well with no visible flaws. I just had to tune three strings and I was playing! Sound is great, body looks perfect, and the tuners work well. Actually, I am amazed at how great this guitar sounds. The fretboard was pretty dusty, but wiped if off and applied a bit of fretboard oil and it looks great.

There is a problem however. I noticed annoying fret buzz only on high e string on frets 3-6, and also a "twang" on the open b and e. I did every adjustment to try to fix the buzz, but it would not go away unless I raised the action super high. I started to examine the nut and saw it was cracked! Then while restringing, the nut broke between the b and e string and a piece fell out. So that would explain the twanging sound and it might explain the buzz (if the cracked nut was vibrating on those notes).

I would give the guitar 5 stars if I didn't have this issue with the nut, it needs to be repaired.

Retrovision Solid Body Electric (Telecaster Style)

    Pros: - Playability
    - Sound
    - Sustain
    - Price

Cons: For the price, really? I've nothing negative to say.

Very impressed with the quality of the instrument for the price. The neck was smooth, with no sharp edges on the frets, and well set up. Pups are hot, but noiseless. Remarkable sustain. As a starving musician in 1984, I had to trade my butterscotch '72 telecaster for a car. I've lamented that decision ever since. Back then, it wasn't likely you could find a quality, low-cost instrument. But the proliferation of low-cost electronics, new manufacturing methods, and global trade, have coalesced to shake things up. I may upgrade this guitar (Fender pups, neck, etc.), but I'm in no hurry to do so.

    Superb, Great Value

Pros: Quality, Build, Finish, Sound, Playability

Cons: None at this price (and none even if I'd paid a few hundred more!)

In my experience, all the Monoprice products I have purchased are of the highest quality and unbelievable value. This is the case with this guitar. I havwe a lot of guitars (from the very expensive, $5,000ish down to the very cheap). I bought this just to see what it was like, and honestly I was expecting it would be good because of my previous experience with Monoprice. I wasn't disappointed. This guitar is so much better than other guitars in this price range and compares favourably with guitars costing quite a bit more. The finish is great. The guitar plays really well. I've had it for about a year now, and no issues at all. I show it to friends and they can't believe how much it cost. But then again, this is par for the course with Monoprice products. If you're thinking of it, I highly recommend this guitar, I don't think you'll be disappointed, quite the opposite.

Received it on a thursday . the box it came in was in pretty good shape. Unboxed it and was pleasently surprised that it was in very good condition. no nicks or scratches, I could not find anything wrong. The frets were pretty good a few needed to be dealt with but for the price I can't complain. even my EPI'S and Fender needed a little tweeking. the sound was pretty good, I may change the pick-ups at a later date. the tuners are OK but will change them out soon. The Blonde color wasn't my first choice but it kind of grew om. I give monoprice a thumbs up on this guitar.
