Retro Vision Solid Body Electric Guitar - Sunburst

With the versatility to play classic country, rock, blues, and jazz tones, you can make this Retro Vision Solid Body Electric Guitar the workhorse of your collection!

This full-sized, 22-fret, single cutaway electric guitar features two single-coil pickups and is capable of producing a wide range of tones. With the bridge pickup, you can get that bright, rich, cutting tone known as the country "twang" made famous by artists such as Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings. With the neck pickup you get a warmer, mellow, bluesy tone, such as that of Albert Collins or Muddy Waters. Additionally, rock musicians as diverse as Syd Barrett, Chrissy Hynde, and Keith Richards have found a way to make their own distinctive sound using this style of guitar.

The guitar is constructed with a basswood body, bolt-on maple neck, and rosewood fretboard. It features locking tuners and is strung using Monoprice's coated-steel strings (light, 0.010"). The chrome volume and tone knobs are accompanied by a three-position switch, which lets you select the neck or bridge pickup, or both.

Before it gets shipped to you, each Monoprice guitar undergoes a setup, tuning, and inspection process by Master Luthier Roger Gresco here in Southern California. The setup ensures that the neck is straight, the action is right, and that it will stay in tune. Additionally, it comes with everything you need to get started, including strings (installed), a heavy-duty zippered black gig bag with shoulder strap, and a truss-rod wrench.

Pros: Fit and finish is top notch. Pickups sound good. Nice fret work. A nice piece of rosewood for the fingerboard. Hardware is solid. Setup was good.

Cons: 3 Saddle bridge is hard (impossible) to intonate. Locking tuners are really not necessary. Monoprice logo was applied upside down. It's the opposite of my California Classic. Looks like a 'W'

What else can be said about these guitars? They are a great value for people like me who play as a hobby, not as a way of earning a living. I own the Route 66, the California Classic, the Arrowhead Vee, the 6th street Pub bass, and now this Retrovision.
One thing that should be mentioned is that the strings on this model DO NOT go through the body of the guitar. I actually prefer this arrangement, but I know that it matters to some, so I thought I would mention it here. Speaking of strings. There have been a lot of complaints on these reviews about the Monoprice strings. The strings are coated, and as such, they feel a little strange at first. Almost sticky. But if you just play them for a while it goes away, and they feel like any other guitar string. I will say, they do seem to stretch more than other brands I've used, but they will settle in nicely after playing for a while. One thing I found strange was that this guitar came with locking tuners, but my vibrato equipped California Classic did not. I'm thinking of swapping the tuning machines from this one, onto the California Classic.
The fretwork on this one was good. All the frets were even, and there were no sharp ends sticking out. The frets could have been polished a little better, but at this price, I'm not going to put it down as a Con.

Pros: Love the look, the weight, ease of playability and especially the price!

Cons: The strings

I ordered and received this guitar a few weeks ago and have been very satisfied with it. I ordered the guitar when it was on sale for $99 + free shipping (how can you go wrong with a deal like that?) The guitar arrived in perfect condition and was set up great. Just a few turns on the tuning knobs and I was playing in no time. The guitar is nice and solid and the finish is one of the best I have seen. This is the 2nd Monoprice guitar I have received and nothing matches the quality of the guitars for the prices paid. The only thing I really didn't care for on both guitars was the strings. I changed them for some D"Darrio extra light strings. Changing the strings made a big different in tonal quality + playability. These Monoprice guitars are exactly as described and then some. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one when I'm ready. Excellent guitar, great set up, terrific price and fast free shipping! Thanks for a great line of guitars!

Retro (tele) guitar

Pros: Great Product for a great price, shipped for free!

Cons: You will like playing this guitar so much you will set your original expensive guitars aside!

This is my third retro guitar. This copy plays like the original and is very comfortable to play. I can see why this style is so popular. It is hard to believe that a guitar at below 100 bucks on sale could be this nice. I also have a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Strat, both cost north of 2K

The Retro will require new strap pegs as the stock ones have a screw to short to keep them from becoming loose if you play a lot but I put locking strap pegs on anyway which come with longer screws. I also add a little elmer's glue on the screw before installing. This helps keep the peg screws from coming loose. The finish is really nice and on all three, the neck and action was set up just right.

I am really impressed and use a couple of my Retro tele copies to play out at gigs. It is really nice to not have to worry about a 2000 thousand dollar guitar on stage! If you play a lot like I do, you tend to wear out the frets. With this guitar you can just buy a new one for less than a fret job cost! I am really impressed with Monoprice offering a really inexpensive guitar with the quality you would not expect at the price. Buy one! you will not be disappointed.

Pros: Great neck with no buzzing, perfect intonation. Sunburst has a great finish - looks wonderful, all the controls work as they should, and it sounds great. Very different sound than the Route 66 and California Classic. Nice chunky neck.

Cons: Sharp fret ends, and it took a few tries to get a good one

This is my third Monoprice guitar having already purchased a California Classic and a Route 66. I wanted a telecaster style guitar, and this fits the bill. The action was good, but a bit high initially, but I was able to lower the saddles to 5/64 on the bass side and 4/64 on the treble, and it plays great now with no string buzz. I am not a very experienced player, but it does seem to have that twangy sound that I was looking for, and with a bit of overdrive it has a real edge. The first one I ordered was set up great, but the neck had some isses, Monoprice sent a second one that had similar issues. They quickly sent another replacement, and this one was great. The ends of the frets are sharp, but that is easy to remedy. The neck is much chunkier than the California Classic and a bit smaller than the Route 66. I love all three Monoprice guitars.

Pros: This guitar - a knockoff of a Fender Telecaster - is one-tenth the price of the original but is a very well made instrument on its own. It came all set up, ready to go out of the box (which got considerably bashed on one end and was even wet - but no harm to the guitar).

Cons: No complaints at this price! Very nicely done.

I think it is pretty impossible to improve on this - a guitar this good at this ridiculous price. No doubt an original Tele is better - but not 10X better. Great value - I don't know how you could get a better guitar at the price or even several multiples of the price. I also have the Monoprice Stratocaster knockoff (which was even cheaper) and the same goes for it. Monoprice has done it again....
