Retro Vision Solid Body Electric Guitar - Blonde

With the versatility to play classic country, rock, blues, and jazz tones, you can make this Retro Vision Solid Body Electric Guitar the workhorse of your collection!

This full-sized, 22-fret, single cutaway electric guitar features two single-coil pickups and is capable of producing a wide range of tones. With the bridge pickup, you can get that bright, rich, cutting tone known as the country "twang" made famous by artists such as Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings. With the neck pickup you get a warmer, mellow, bluesy tone, such as that of Albert Collins or Muddy Waters. Additionally, rock musicians as diverse as Syd Barrett, Chrissy Hynde, and Keith Richards have found a way to make their own distinctive sound using this style of guitar.

The guitar is constructed with a basswood body, bolt-on maple neck, and rosewood fretboard. It features locking tuners and is strung using Monoprice's coated-steel strings (light, 0.010"). The chrome volume and tone knobs are accompanied by a three-position switch, which lets you select the neck or bridge pickup, or both.

Before it gets shipped to you, each Monoprice guitar undergoes a setup, tuning, and inspection process by Master Luthier Roger Gresco here in Southern California. The setup ensures that the neck is straight, the action is right, and that it will stay in tune. Additionally, it comes with everything you need to get started, including strings (installed), a heavy-duty zippered black gig bag with shoulder strap, and a truss-rod wrench.

Everything is great except the tuners

    Pros: Setup is very good
    Pickups sound pretty decent

    Cons: Tuners are AWFUL
    Pickups can be thin clean

The guitar was set up well (the action was great and the intonation is as close as it could be with the style of saddles it came with), the pickups are a little thin but otherwise sound good (I like them a lot more dirty than clean) but the tuners leave a lot to be desired. I'm not sure why Monoprice put the locking tuners on this guitar and not on their Strat-knock-off (locking tuners make a MUCH bigger difference with a tremolo tailpiece), but I hate them. With two of the strings the locking mechanism barely worked, and with the others I had to be careful when stringing, as the strings tended to come loose. It's not a MAJOR issue (new tuners can be had for under $40) but I would rather have had their standard tuners (which actually work relatively well).

    Quality control issues

Pros: Good sounding guitar, easy to play, solid electronics

Cons: Scratches on bridge plate and chip in finish.

The guitar was setup well with easy action and sounds pretty good but there were scratches on the bridge plate and a chip on the body. Looks like the finish is going to delaminate where the chip is.

    Hello Greg,

Thank you for your review and sorry to hear of the scratches and the chip. Would you mind sending a photo of the scratches and the chip to mark.perez@monoprice.com?

Retro Vision Solid Body Guitar mods

Pros: GREAT VALUE... perfect for modding. neck easily sanded down for relic'ing or even cutting
    to match Tele style headstock.
Added a Hipshot bolt-on bridge assembly that works great and lets me get a country sound without all the finger work.

Cons: a mix of part sizes so you have to measure twice and order only parts that will fit.
top nut cut too deep and needs replacing.

I purchased these Monoprice guitars as platforms to perform mods on or relic and have had
lots of fun improving the look and playability of each unit. They are good starter guitars and
also perfect to hackup/ modify to your personal tastes.
Relic'ed the headstock and now looks like a 70's Tele with that older orange aged look.

Pros: Very easy to play. Smooth action. Finish flawless. Strings are top notch. Love the "M" logo on the headstock. Nice touch.

Cons: Cons: It seems most of the screws holding the pick guard and some on the other hardware are stripped. The driver inserting these screws was not adjusted correctly. Both guitars are effected. Not a huge deal, but something that could be addressed.

These were our first Mono guitars. If they all sound as good as these we will be getting more.

Pros: Love the finish and natural wood showing through the blonde color on the body of this here guitar. The hardware and volume turn knobs are very good quality chrome and feel solid. The fit and action is great just like the California Classic guitar Monoprice sells here. I can't really think of a better playing guitar. Some people said the pick ups are lower volume output but I did not experience that. All electronics are of good quality and sound loud and clear.

Cons: Can't really think of one, oh just two minor defects where the backside of the neck joins the guitar body there are some tiny stress cracks on the blonde finish in the two corners on each side. Not an effect on the sound in anyway.

Beautiful playing guitar and the blonde color with natural wood showing through makes this guitar very retro looking. It does have that Chrissy Hynde signature blues rock sound, among other artist. I would say definitely add this one to your collection you won't regret it. The string action is a bit higher than the Monoprice California Classic so adjust to your preference, I like the action stock. No fret buzz on any of the strings. A very solid feeling well built guitar.
