California Classic Solid Body Electric Guitar - Sunburst

You know it when you hear it. That distinctive California Classic sound made famous by artists like Dick Dale, David Gilmour, and Ritchie Blackmore. Whether it is the surf, blues, psychedelic rock, country, or classic hard rock, this California Classic Solid Body Electric Guitar from Monoprice is the perfect axe for your daily practice and performance needs.

This full-sized, 22-fret guitar features a double-cutaway body made of basswood, a bolt-on maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and chrome machine heads/tuning pegs. It uses three single-coil pickups in the bridge, middle, and neck positions. A five-position selector switch allows you to use each of the three pickups individually, while the 2 and 4 positions combine the neck and bridge pups with the middle one for that distinctive "quack" sound. A tremolo/whammy bar is included for note bending.

Before it gets shipped to you, each Monoprice guitar undergoes a setup, tuning, and inspection process by Master Luthier Roger Gresco here in Southern California. The setup ensures that the neck is straight, the action is right, and that it will stay in tune. Additionally, it comes with everything you need to get started, including strings (installed), the tremolo/whammy bar, a heavy-duty zippered black gig bag with shoulder strap, and a truss-rod wrench.

    LOVE this guitar
I bought this guitar as a 'camper guitar' to leave in the camper at the lake. I have 3 fenders of different varieties that I usually play, but how surprised I was to see how well-made and beautiful this piece is. Spent the entire day playing it. I know you're not going to believe this, but it actually was IN TUNE when I got it out of the box and I played it right away. I hope they put other models on sale, because I'm definitely going to be purchasing more of these.

    PROS: not too heavy

came set up and ready to go

    plays great

    CONS: none

    Great guitar!
I'm a guitar beginner so I can't really say how this compares to other things. But I like the guitar and it's functional and playable for me. Can't go wrong with it at this price. Thanks Monoprice!

    PROS: Good looking, functional

    CONS: None

    Strat Knockoff
Overall, this is a great value, no lie.I couldn't believe the eye appeal straight out of the box!The neck, bridge saddles were setup fine. These are things any customer should be able to set up
to their own personal preference. The range of tones is amaxing, especially considering there were no buzzes, squawks, or foreign radio stations being picked up! I may just buy another guitar, but in a different color, of course.Well done!

PROS: Ok, so it's not a Fender, but at that price, what would you expect? What I did get was an exceptional value, right out of the box.Ok, string replacement is a given, but the pots worked fine, no static, and audio taper was fine. After a few days, tho, the neck did need a 'tweek', as it started to get some fret buzz that it didn't have at first. This is normal, as the wood/neck gets acclimated to your area.It came with gig bag, allen wrenches, and a signed certificate of tech who set up guitar before shipment.Finish was way better than expected.I would readily order another, but I'd have to figure out how to hide it from my wife )

CONS: Strings were cheap, but easily replaced.I'd rather see cut corners in this area, than another area like frets or electronics.

Overall at this price this guitar cannot be beat. It's that simple. With a setup it sounds as good as or better than many higher priced guitars.

    PROS: Price

    Sound quality

CONS: Needed some adjusting to eliminate buzz, nothing complicated

The bag it comes with is just a dust cover

    This is an Amazing value!
I played this guitar at the Nashville Summer 2013 NAMM show at the Monoprice Booth. I was very impressed by the quality and sound. For the sake of potential buyers I have to say this thing is almost as good as instruments costing ten times this amount. All it needed was a little fret dressing and its a great addition to my studio. I bought the GoldTop as well and its just as amazing.

    MonoPrice has a winner
Beautiful guitar, plays as good as any strat I have ever picked up, very fast action with precision intonation all over the fretboard, stays in tune after playing hours of heavy hammering on the guitar.
Neck feels good as does all the hardware, sounds like a full priced strat after putting some DR 10's on the guitar.
Every part I have looked up from a strat MIM will fit on this guitar, Hmmmm?
If you are looking for a good playing guitar then you have found it right here on MonoPrice this is a outstanding piece of musical equipment and by the way the neck feels fantastic and has blazing fast action right out of the box without not even the slightest fret buzz (Thanks, Roger Gresco) who would have thought all this for under $90, for all you skeptics out there who feel you have to pay a small fortune for a great sounding quality built instrument you might better rethink this one and give it a shot you won't be sorry.
How are you doing this MonoPrice? Who are you getting to build these guitars? they a top notch.
By the way I bought this "California Classic" and the "Route 66" and both are equally as good in their own distinctive ways.
For those of you on the fence come on over you will not regret this purchase, if you can't tell I am mind boggled in how in the world MonoPrice can produce, sell and make a profit on such a nice guitar this is no el cheapo like you find on auction sites and pawn shops trust me I know.

PROS: Beautiful Guitar(Finish)not a bad spot nowhere on the guitar, Quality build, parts and sound.
These guitars have it all, I have some very expensive guitars and equipment and this guitar is no slouch or sacrifice to any of my other instruments.
    Beautiful craftsmanship.
Basswood sounds brillent with great tones and undertones.
    Maple Neck and Rosewood Fretboard.
    Triple pick-guard

CONS: Strings are not the best and I will replace the Nut with a Tusq®.
    Included pick sucks

This is my favorite of all the guitars Monoprice offers. The finish is beautiful, the tone is excellent, and the neck is very playable. It was set up near perfect out of the box.

The tone pots don't work on mine, but that can be easily fixed.

This guitar is worth far more than the selling price. Throw new .10 strings on it and enjoy.

    PROS: Beautiful finish
    Great Strat tone
    Smooth neck, excellent playability
Near perfect out of the box

    CONS: None for the price

    Very impressed
I'm the most amateur of guitarists (it's a third instrument for me) but I've been around and worked with many professionals. So I've seen and played my share of high end guitars. And on the other end of the spectrum I've owned several cheapos over the years including an early 90s Squier.

I am simply blown away by the value of this Monoprice guitar. Fit and finish are very good - and outstanding for the price point. Out of the box the setup was excellent - strings were low, no fret buzz at all. Extremely playable. Seems to hold its tuning just fine, though I haven't abused it enough to know how strong the tuners are. But at this price, if you don't like the tuners, swap 'em out.

As a first electric or a practice guitar I can't imagine there's any such thing as a better value out there. If you want to upgrade it, the major parts appear to be interchangeable with standard Strat parts. So if you don't like the pickups, swap in something else and you're many dollars ahead compared to a low end Squier or similar.

If you're looking for an inexpensive first guitar or a practice guitar - stop thinking right now and buy one. It's that good.

    PROS: Astonishing value

    Playable out of the box

CONS: Doesn't improve my lack of guitar talent

    So far so GREAT
im using this for rocksmith. it works great. Im not that good at playing it yet.

    PROS: its geat

went to get it setup, and guitar pro said "its already set up great you dont need anything done to it"

    CONS: it wasnt free

I bought this for my wife so that she and I could learn guitar together. I figured that it was cheap enough that even if it was terrible I wasn't wasting much money. I was happily surprised when it showed up how well it was packaged, how good it looked and at how well it played. Easily worth twice what Monoprice is asking. I am thinking of adding a second one to this!

PROS: Beautiful finish, well set up and plays well!

CONS: Strings are a little cheap, but if that's the only con!
