California Classic Solid Body Electric Guitar - Sunburst

You know it when you hear it. That distinctive California Classic sound made famous by artists like Dick Dale, David Gilmour, and Ritchie Blackmore. Whether it is the surf, blues, psychedelic rock, country, or classic hard rock, this California Classic Solid Body Electric Guitar from Monoprice is the perfect axe for your daily practice and performance needs.

This full-sized, 22-fret guitar features a double-cutaway body made of basswood, a bolt-on maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and chrome machine heads/tuning pegs. It uses three single-coil pickups in the bridge, middle, and neck positions. A five-position selector switch allows you to use each of the three pickups individually, while the 2 and 4 positions combine the neck and bridge pups with the middle one for that distinctive "quack" sound. A tremolo/whammy bar is included for note bending.

Before it gets shipped to you, each Monoprice guitar undergoes a setup, tuning, and inspection process by Master Luthier Roger Gresco here in Southern California. The setup ensures that the neck is straight, the action is right, and that it will stay in tune. Additionally, it comes with everything you need to get started, including strings (installed), the tremolo/whammy bar, a heavy-duty zippered black gig bag with shoulder strap, and a truss-rod wrench.

    Great Value!

Pros: Plays and sounds well, no rough ends on fret wires, finish excellent.

Cons: Inconsistent feel of tuners - some stiffer than others. But they seem to stay in tune.

Was a bit apprehensive as I always aspire to - "you get what you pay for", but this guitar defies that. It plays well, the action on the low E a bit low - but will correct that easily. The tuners ( some a bit stiff) seem to stay in tune - even after traveling with changes in location and humidity levels. It honestly feels like a guitar costing much more.

Pros: Price, setup, finish, sound. When I was a kid working in a guitar store, this guitar would have cost $380 in 1987 dollars.

Cons: Frets are a bit unpolished/rough. Tuners are not pro quality, but will stay in tune if you're not too wild with the whammy. When I was a kid working in a guitar store, this guitar would have cost $380 in 1987 dollars.

Monoprice logo is cheesy and dull.

so I'm plunkin' away on my fake Monoprice Strat, and my email dings asking to review the guitar. Mind you, I's surrounded by thousands of dollars worth of guitar gear, and I'm learning one of my favorite Hendrix tunes on an $80 guitar played through a $200 Monoprice tube amp. Thing sounds, plays, feels, looks great! Real pure sound, low action (albeit a bit too low upon arrival). I've been playing music for 30+ years, mostly as a bassist, but wanted a cheap beater Strat, so after loving their tube amp, I bought this and couldn't be more impressed. You could spend 4x as much money for a Squier and this would be a better instrument. If you've got a youngster wanting to learn guitar, don't waste your cash on a name brand. To put it in 70's parlance, this is buying a Huffy that rides like a Schwinn.

Pros: Nice build quality especially for the money, Inexpensive but solid nice tuners, Keeps tune very well, body routed for easy electronics upgrade in the future.

Cons: 3 way switch makes a horrible clicking noise when selecting between pickups,

This guitar is great for the money. I bought this guitar to first check out and see how good of a guitar it actually was and it lived up to the reviews on this site. Second reason I bought this guitar was as a foundation for me to customize to my liking. Aside from the usual suspects (pickups and electronics mostly) the guitar is a pretty solid one. It resonates very well. The body has a "boat" routing so if you wanted to upgrade to humbuckers, you can but you may have to chop your screw length down a little bit (roughly .150" for mine). Not much you can say about an inexpensive guitar that is on the same level of some $300+ guitars. At first the width of the neck thew me off but keep in mind that I'm like really fat gibson necks but I'm slowly getting use to it. Keep in mind I upgraded the crap out of this guitar but that was just so I would have a decent recording guitar with humbuckers instead of single-coils. Pros: Price
    Delivery time

    Cons: None

I'm a beginner and this seems to be very well constructed at a fantastic price point. I checked out some other entry level strats, such as the Squiers, and this seems to be a much greater value for the price.

    Pros: Guitar is great

    Cons: will need a case.

Don't be fooled by the price, guitar is nice. Shipping was fast. Packaging to keep it safe. The bag is more of a dust cover, but not the reason to buy. Guitar sounded great right out of the package. Strings were good, nice solid tone, no issues at all. Had it set-up for my playing and it's even better. The person who set it up gave a dirty look when I brought it in, but was impressed how well it set-up and played. Way better than a Squire, Rogue or anything for the price. If it had a F&%$%r on the headstock you wouldn't be able to tell the diff.
