California Classic Solid Body Electric Guitar - White

You know it when you hear it. That distinctive California Classic sound made famous by artists like Dick Dale, David Gilmour, and Ritchie Blackmore. Whether it is the surf, blues, psychedelic rock, country, or classic hard rock, this California Classic Solid Body Electric Guitar from Monoprice is the perfect axe for your daily practice and performance needs.

This full-sized, 22-fret guitar features a double-cutaway body made of basswood, a bolt-on maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and chrome machine heads/tuning pegs. It uses three single-coil pickups in the bridge, middle, and neck positions. A five-position selector switch allows you to use each of the three pickups individually, while the 2 and 4 positions combine the neck and bridge pups with the middle one for that distinctive "quack" sound. A tremolo/whammy bar is included for note bending.

Before it gets shipped to you, each Monoprice guitar undergoes a setup, tuning, and inspection process by Master Luthier Roger Gresco here in Southern California. The setup ensures that the neck is straight, the action is right, and that it will stay in tune. Additionally, it comes with everything you need to get started, including strings (installed), the tremolo/whammy bar, a heavy-duty zippered black gig bag with shoulder strap, and a truss-rod wrench.

    Pleasantly Surprised

    Pros: Price
    Ease of setup
    Quick and free shipping

Cons: Frets are a bit rough, and the strings scrape a bit on bends. This can be buffed out with a variety bag of steel wool.
Knobs are set unevenly, different under-gaps between the pickguard.

When the guitar was first unboxed, it sounded horrible, but after a proper setup (just google how to setup a fender stratocaster and watch some videos), it sounds great. The intonation is nice, the action can be set pretty low without too much buzz, and the pickups sound good. I also have a 90's japanese strat, and the playability is comparable.

    Tips for anyone who buys:
Buy some 3 in 1 oil to clean the fretboard and lube the metal-string contact points.
Also open up the back and move the tremolo springs to the output positions to balance the tension.

Poorly inspected guitar, terrible product support.

Pros: I expect it'd sound fantastic if if was inspected correctly. I LOVE my Route 66 but this strat doesn't have the same quality on the components or the inspection perhaps. Monoprice, if you raise the price to like 100 you could fix a lot of issues. First time being let down by your service. I hope this can be fixed.

Cons: Obviously not closely inspected, cheap and very soft plastic nut.

The quality of this guitar overall is surprisingly good. The nut on he other hand is way too cheap and was so soft that the strings literally cut into them. I had extreme fret buzz and to top it all off, the bottom strap lock was stripped. So if this is setup under the direction of a luthier, then either his team is blind or turns a blind eye to shoddy components. There is a difference between a TUSQ nut and that piece of butter they added to the fretboard, that difference is about 10 dollars and the. It'd be incredibly improved. When I contacted monoprice for a replacement they were extremely unhelpful, telling me to return the item and wait for them to get it in order for a replacement. News flash monoprice, the majority of companies send replacements and then have you send the product back. Because it isn't the customers job to quality control the item and then be left waiting for a replacement in the event of obvious issues. Cheap isn't bad, cheap quality is. Invest in a nut more like the one on the Route 66 and check those screws for stripping.

Pros: Best Value I have seen, unbeatable in a Budget guitar, Nice sound and Playability, Better than a Fender Squire, and is very nicely made.

    Cons: could not find any

Great Guitar for a Cheap Price, Stays in tune, sounds great and is a nicely made Axe. Guitar was almost tuned when unpacked, intonation was good, Sound quality was nice, very Stratocaster Like tone, for a lower priced instrument.

    Great Value

Pros: Quality for the price. Set up was pretty good. Not fancy but functional.

Cons: For $ 75.00 ? Not much...... Maybe new strings after a while.

I bought this guitar with discounts on sale for under $ 75.00 shipped. I have a MIM Fender Strat and this MONO guitar is close in feel to that. The set up was almost as good. Build quality was nice w/ no blems. The sound was brighter. Not sure if it's the pick-ups or the Basswood body.
If your looking for a beginner to advanced beginner guitar, this may be the one. For the price, it can't be beat. I own a couple PRS guitars too and for the money( 1/10th), the MONO is worth it.
I was worried it wouldn't stay in tune or the Chinese craftsmanship would be a problem but it hasn't been at all.
