California Classic Solid Body Electric Guitar - White

You know it when you hear it. That distinctive California Classic sound made famous by artists like Dick Dale, David Gilmour, and Ritchie Blackmore. Whether it is the surf, blues, psychedelic rock, country, or classic hard rock, this California Classic Solid Body Electric Guitar from Monoprice is the perfect axe for your daily practice and performance needs.

This full-sized, 22-fret guitar features a double-cutaway body made of basswood, a bolt-on maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and chrome machine heads/tuning pegs. It uses three single-coil pickups in the bridge, middle, and neck positions. A five-position selector switch allows you to use each of the three pickups individually, while the 2 and 4 positions combine the neck and bridge pups with the middle one for that distinctive "quack" sound. A tremolo/whammy bar is included for note bending.

Before it gets shipped to you, each Monoprice guitar undergoes a setup, tuning, and inspection process by Master Luthier Roger Gresco here in Southern California. The setup ensures that the neck is straight, the action is right, and that it will stay in tune. Additionally, it comes with everything you need to get started, including strings (installed), the tremolo/whammy bar, a heavy-duty zippered black gig bag with shoulder strap, and a truss-rod wrench.

Pros: Awesome quality for an unbelievable price, and backed by the best customer service company in the world bar none. I am a guitar tech, and invest a couple hundred dollars, and have a great guitar for thousands less than the competition. Would like a maple fingerboard, but that's personal preference, otherwise it would be 10 out 10

Cons: Not many - The hardware, pots, pickups and tuners are good enough for garage bands, but if you want something to gig with, you'll need to put some money into it.

This is my 3rd Monoprice guitar, a Retro Vision, a lightening California Classic, and this my 2nd California Classic. Pros: The California Classic is an amazing instrument, and I should know, because I own a collection of vintage Gibsons, Fenders Ovations, etc. With minor hardware, electronic upgrades, I can now leave all my collectors at home. I'm blown away at the quality of these Monoprice guitars, the bolt-on neck, the urethane finish, the certificate of authenticity, all add up to a great product. From beginners to masters, these fit the bill, and wish I could have owned one in the 70s, when I was learning. My first guitar’s strings were a mile above the fingerboard. I'm a tinkerer, and never leave well enough alone, so I'll end this with - I put time and a little money into this guitar, but it played, and sounded fine out of the box.

Guitar is great but I don't recommend if you're looking for good customer service. I ask on live chat and phone prior to buying this item that if it came with a strap, they BOTH confirm it did. Later I found my strap was missing, I contact back them and I was told I would receive a strap through RMA a week later they said they don't have it. I ask for my emails to forwarded to a supervisor because of this issue. A strap isn't a big deal but i'm just that they dodge me several times when they told me they would send me one through RMA and cancel it. I told them to forward my email to a supervisor because of all my trouble and they never reply back till this day.

The guitar is 4/5 the lower string snapped within a week but got a new string problem solve. Also brought a 10$ strap on amazon.

Summary: Good for guitar, avoid for any customer service.

Pros: Plays and sounds well, no rough ends on fret wires, finish excellent.

Cons: Inconsistent feel of tuners - some stiffer than others. But they seem to stay in tune.

Was a bit apprehensive as I always aspire to - "you get what you pay for", but this guitar defies that. It plays well, the action on the low E a bit low - but will correct that easily. The tuners ( some a bit stiff) seem to stay in tune - even after traveling with changes in location and humidity levels. It honestly feels like a guitar costing much more.

Pros: Many Pros about this strat

Cons: so far Monoprice has been inconsistent with quality but if you can get lucky or can perform a set up the price is hard to beat. One thing that is consistent is the gigbag. Its about as much protection as nothing at all - better described as a dust cover. They should think about a better quality bag and put their name on i for some advertising

I purchased 2 guitars from Monoprice recently - an LP style and this strat copy. The LP was so badly set I I almost returned it but a string change, intonation adjustment and some neck work to to remedy some bad buzzing finally got it playable. Enough about that. This Strat was the total opposite - the frets were nice, the set-up was great (Obviously done by someone who knew what they were doing - or did I just get lucky??). The finish was very nice. Sound-wise was a total surprise - and in a good way. So overall - looked great, played great and sounded much better that the price. this was a good deal. So I'm 1 for 2 with Monoprice. Next time the have a sale I might try to break the tie.
