Dual Bay Thunderbolt™ 2 Cactus Bridge Enclosure with Cable - Silver

Add up to 4TB of ultrafast storage to your MacBook® or other Thunderbolt™ equipped computer using this RAID-capable ThunderDUO Dual Bay Thunderbolt Enclosure from Monoprice!

This aluminum dual-bay enclosure accepts two 2.5" SATA drives with a maximum capacity of 2TB each. It accepts both hard drives and SSDs, with maximum thickness from 9.5 ~ 15 mm. Good enclosure. Not "Thunderbolt 2", but "2 Cactus".

Good enclosure. I just wanted to include a note that the name of the product may be a little confusing. This is a "Dual Bay Thunderbolt™ 2 Cactus Bridge Enclosure" and the "2" goes with "Cactus", not "Thunderbolt". As the 10Gbps speed in the specs indicates, this is a Thunderbolt 1 device, not Thunderbolt 2. The "2" adjective belongs to the "cactus" part of the description.

Dual Bay Thunderbolt™ 2 Cactus Bridge Enclosure

Pros: Compact, reasonably fast

Cons: Slightly noisy fan, drive trays rattle inside

I bought this same enclosure last year from another reseller, and was impressed enough to hunt down another unit, and found that Monoprice was about the only one that had stock and would ship to Australia. Upon receiving it, the first thing I noticed is that it came in a generic white box with NO graphics, or printing of any kind, quite unlike the original I bought last year. I suspect the Monoprice unit is a refurb because it didn't come with the drive trays wrapped in plastic either.

I'm running two 750GB SSDs which only achieve speeds of just under 400MB/sec, which is slower than another thunderbolt enclosure I have.

Enclosure working awesome for SSD boot drive

Pros: No hassle setup
Easy to install and remove drives
Included TB cable

Cons: None so far

I've only had this for a couple days but it works perfectly with the Samsun EVO SSD I bought. I'm using this as an external SSD boot drive for my iMac. I love how even if I power off the enclosure, it will wake when I wake the computer (especially important now that I'm using it as a boot drive).
The screws included fit the Samsun EVO drive - but I did also install an older "spinning" drive that required larger screws. I don't see this as a negative though since Monoprice doesn't control the the sizing of instal screws OEMs use.
So, for the limited time I've had this, it's working perfectly and I'm super happy with it.

Good enclosure, but short of great

Pros: - Beautiful case with easy access to drives
- Simple installation
- Fast!

Cons: - Annoyingly loud fan with variable speed whine
- Bus-only power requires both Thunderbolt connection (no daisy-chain)
- Included mounting screws didn't fit my drives

I'm pleased with this drive for desktop use, but the anticipated primary use (mobile) is significantly more hassle due to the details of bus power (I'll need an extra cable, and won't be able to chain devices). That said, the drive is fast, simple, compact, and good looking. The fan whine is irritating, but the enclosure is hardly unique in that aspect. Overall, a solidly good, but not quite great, device.
