    1 Channel Passive CCTV BALUN - Video/Power over Cat5

This pair of single channel passive video baluns will carry video and power over cat5, giving you the ability to utilize straight network cables to connect your cameras. Simply connect the BNC ends to your camera and your recording device or display, connect the DC ends to a Power Supply and the Camera, then connect your network cable through the RJ45 jacks. Depending on camera power draw, power output, cable size and environment, results will vary. Average conditions allow transmission up to 1,000 ft. On longer runs video quality might be slightly reduced.

    Response from Monoprice

Glad you were pleased with the baluns and everything worked out well for you. My apologies on the bad unit, but if you need a replacement on the one defective unit I would be happy to do so I would just need an order number to get the process started.

    Glad I found these
I just finished installing a 16-camera analog surveillance system in a church. These baluns allowed me to use Cat6 cable which helps "future-proof" my installation a little better. I had some runs over 300ft. and these things perform flawlessly. Of the 30-40 that I've bought over the last few years, I've had a couple that were bad but overall, I'm very pleased.

PROS: Inexpensive way to allow Cat6 cabling in your analog surveillance system.

CONS: Once in a while, you get a dud.

    Good Quality
These baluns have worked flawlessly for me on several occasions. They are fairly small, which is important when working in tight spaces. If you get your cabling correct, these wlll work just fine.

    PROS: Small, reliable

    It works.
I am not sure if this product is weatherproof and it can stand the weather changes during winter and summer. I have them place inside of weather proof electrical box, let see what happens.

If you do not see any picture after you install this product you most likely have the Ethernet cabling done incorrectly. I had the same issue and as soon as I changed the cabling everything started to work correctly. I followed the T-568B standard Straight-Through.

    PROS: - Easy install

    - No additional configuration needed.

    - Patch a Ethernet cable (RJ-45) and you will be all set to go.

CONS: - Power cable could be a little longer.

    Great little devices!
These little devices are fantastic. Using Cat5 cable is a much better alternative than siamese cable, at least for me. Cat5 is easy to crimp so you can make cables the correct size without having to deal with crimping coax. Picture quality and IR is great with these baluns. I wouldn't use anything else.

    PROS: Simply works.

    CONS: None.

    I'm really amazed
I compared this using a CAT5 cable with a similar length to another siamese BNC cable using Monoprice's 600 TVL camera (part number MDP-K675HFI-30) and I don't see any difference in quality between the two cables. The CAT5e will always be cheaper and, most likely, will already be wired at your premises.
Straight cable connections without punch-blocks are just fine.
I'm pleased that the power is also carried over the cable. All 30 of the infrared LEDs light up on my camera with the same quality as direct-wired siamese cable.

PROS: The picture quality is the same as direct siamese BNC cable that I have as long as no punch-down blocks or other things are between the baluns.
Straight wiring performance is equivalent to more expensive siamese wiring (see Cons).

CONS: I can't think of any cons to this item that aren't caused by your premise wiring. Naturally, your installation may have more than one punch-block which will degrade the signal, so keep that in mind when installing a camera using this balun.
