Z-Wave Smoke Detector - NO LOGO

Add Z-Wave® functionality to your home security system using this Z-Wave Smoke Detector from Monoprice!

Z-Wave is a low power mesh networking communications technology that allows Z-Wave enabled devices to communicate with each other and to distribute Z-Wave messages throughout to network. This smoke detector is designed to sense smoke that enters the sensor. When detected smoke reaches a particular density, a Z-Wave signal is sent and the detector's alarm sounds to alert you to the dangerous smoke intensity. The Z-Wave trigger signal can then be used to activate various other devices and perform preprogrammed tasks.

This sensor comes with everything you need to install it into an existing Z-Wave network, including mounting screws, drywall anchors, and a CR123A battery for power.

Works with Smart Things

Pros: Works great with smart things. Just use the smoke detector device posted previously in the reviews. It's not that hard to do just look up the faq on smart things forum.

Cons: Have to look up custom device type in IDE.

One tip! If you need to exclude or put into pairing mode, press the test button. The trick is to only half press the button, and to let go before it beeps. It will start flashing red which will exclude or put it into pairing mode. After a million beeps I finally figured this out moving over to Hub v2. If it's not flashing red it isn't in exclude or pair mode!

Replacement appears to be worse then the 1st. one

Pros: Looks OK.
Tamper Switch.

Cons: It took a couple of inclusions to get it to install into Homeseer 3.X using ZWave+ stick..
Appears not to be able to be used stand alone unless paired (See review below..).
Replacement appears to be bad.. (See review below.)
Battery Door ?? (See review below.)

Now that I think I understand these ZWave smoke detectors I am thinking the first smoke I got was working OK and was killing the battery by trying to connect to a ZWave node which did not exist at that time reading above I decided that unit was bad and returned it as defective.. Several reviewers stated that it appeared to work stand alone all right ,, Yet I think that was after the unit got set up by a transmitter,, I got the replacement and wait to I have set up the ZWave+ stick which I did over the last couple of days..
The replacement appears to be included in Homeseer after a couple of tries , small note this device seems to only be a receiver and not a transmitter as seen by Homeseer. Odd,, can anybody confirm ?? This unit is definitely bad as it goes into full alarm randomly pushing the silence button only delays it again randomly.. Lastly not sure if I broke it be removing the battery so many times or if the device that stops you from closing the door without the battery installed broke it ,, yet the pin is broke on the blocking devices side...

Hi dem5867,

Thank you for your review on PID 10797. Regarding how the sensor is seen by Homeseer, we unfortunately would be unable to verify for sure. I recommend checking with the manufacturer as they may have more insight about that. For the alarm issue, did the new smoke detector ever work properly or did the alarm randomly go off from the beginning? Does the alarm still go off when it isn't paired with the Z-Stick? Can we try unpairing the detector then re-pair it to see if there is any difference? Also, can we test the unit with new batteries? If the problems continue occur, I can assist you in obtaining another replacement to see if it will work better or a return RMA for store credit. If you would like to proceed with an RMA, please let me know if you would prefer to return the smoke detector or obtain another replacement. Thank you!

Works great with Smartthings 2.0

Pros: Works well, provides push alerts and text notification if used with smartthings

Cons: You must first connect the device to Smartthings hub, then use the IDE web platform to call it a zwave smoke detector.

Excellent, especially when it is on sale.

I bought two, for downstairs and upstairs. The one downstairs chirps every few seconds, and the one upstairs seems to have a hair trigger. It screamed when I vacuumed the living room rug downstairs. No smoke involved.

I've ordered some new batteries, which I want to try before giving up entirely, but if that turns out to be the solution, then I'm displeased that they were shipped with old or defective ones. If it turns out not to be the solution, then my rating will need to be revised downward.

Doesn't work with Wink.

Pros: Cheap, looks decent

Cons: Does not work with the Wink Hub.
Had trouble setting device to blink red continuously so I'm not sure if it's in pairing mode.

So Wink has confirmed that the smoke alarm does not work with the Wink Hub. This is their issue. Unfortunately I cannot therefore, properly assess Monoprice's device and my review is less about Monoprice and more about Wink.

For anyone looking at purchasing these z-wave devices for the Wink, be advised that the motion sensor works, but not the temperature. The garage door and the smoke alarm both don't work at all with the Wink hub.

I'm not sure if it's the Wink Hub's fault, but I also had great difficulty getting the smoke detector into pairing mode. The instructions lack information about what to do with the cover (do you disconnect unit when pairing it, or do you leave it on the base. I think it matters...)

See below:

This is Tiffany from Wink support, thanks for reaching out!

Unfortunately, since that device you have is sort of like a 2-in-1, there is no option within the Wink app to have that sort of specification. The thermometer within the motion sensor is something we are not compatible with, therefore, we cannot guarantee full functionality.

The only smoke alarms that are able to connect to the Wink hub itself are the Kidde smoke alarms and the Nest Protect smoke alarm. There is no other way to add generic z-wave smoke alarms to the Wink hub, unfortunately.

When I asked about the garage door sensor:
Ah yes, it's not compatible, unfortunately. We are always working on new integrations, definitely keep your eyes peeled for future updates.
