    HDBaseT™ 4x2 HDMI® Matrix Switch and Receiver

Monoprice is a proud member of the HDBaseT Alliance

Distribute up to four HDMI® audio/video source signals to any of two locations using this HDBaseT™ 4x2 HDMI Matrix Switch from Monoprice!

This 4x2 Matrix Switch features four HDMI video inputs and two outputs. One of the outputs is a standard HDMI port for a local connection, while the other is an HDBaseT RJ45 jack for an extended connection. The HDBaseT technology allows for a full bandwidth 10.2Gbps data throughput to distances up to 328 feet over a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable.

The full 10.2Gbps bandwidth support means that this matrix supports all High Speed HDMI functions, including all HDMI 3D video modes, the extended 4K cinema resolution, 32-bit Deep Color, and high-definition compressed lossless audio, such as DTS-HD Master Audio™ and Dolby TrueHD™. The matrix features a built-in, bidirectional infrared (IR) signal extender, which allows you to remotely control devices at the source or destination end of the connection. Additionally, an IR Adapter allows you to use the IR repeater function with the HDMI cable connection.

The HDBaseT extender is capable of transmitting a full-duplex 100Mbps local area network connection alongside the HDMI and IR signals. The matrix has two RJ45 LAN jacks on the back panel, while the HDBaseT Receiver has another two RJ45 LAN jacks. As long as one of the four jacks is connected to the network, the other three will propagate the network connection. This allows you to wire another room for HDMI video, IR remote control repeating, and full internet access, using only a single Cat6 cable!

Note: While the extender will function using unshielded Cat5e cabling, we recommend the use of shielded Cat6 cabling for greater reliability over longer distances. Also note that any cable run through the walls must be rated for in-wall installations.

    Don't bother

    Pros: None

Don't even bother purchasing this unit. It Has a nasty tendency to go to sleep on a regular basis and you have to unplug and replug it to reactivate it. Needless to say my customer is not happy and neither I am. I only bought this unit because it was the only one I could find that is both an HDMI splitter and an HDBaseT transmitter. From now on I will stick to SnapAV.
I lost a hundred dollars in hardware costs only just to replace all of Monoprice extenders and HDMI wireless equipment. for that client. I am not a happy camper.

Thank you for your review, and I am truly sorry for the sleep issue you are encountering. We do have other Matrixes and switches if you prefer. Did you want to try those instead? Please let me know so I can assist you with a return accordingly. Thank you!

    Pros: System works as advertised

Cons: The description for this item does not match the user manual which comes with the system. This package contains only one transmitter, and one receiver. The user manual specifies one transmitter and two receivers. Very misleading. The customer satisfaction department will not correct this problem and you will be left to buy another receiver to make your project complete.

    Buyer Beware

    by Monoprice Administrator

I am truly sorry for the confusion with the manual, however thank you for bringing this to our attention! I have passed this along to our product team and we will be looking into resolving this error.

I also wanted to note that this unit has one HDBaseT output and one HDMI output. If you were looking to add an additional display to the setup via HDBaseT, the only way to achieve that would be to add a daisy chain extender in between the transmitter and the included receiver. A receiver would only have an HDBaseT input while the daisy chain extender will have both an input and output for chaining HDBaseT units together. Please see PID 10685 for the extender:

My apologies again for any inconvenience this may have caused and I hope this helps.

    A good product with issues

Pros: Great picture. CAT6 cable is much easier to deal with on long runs than HDMI cable. Nice compact package.

Cons: Wall Warts are always a problem and these have power wires a bit too short for my needs.
Ungodly bright LED numerical readouts, Could almost serve as room lighting.
Synch problems when switching displays or sources.
The IR blasters are beyond my comprehension.

I've only had this unit for a little over a day and when it works, it's just fantastic.
However getting it to work is enough to test the patience of even the most unflappable home theater geek. I'm using this to drive a flat screen TV for normal viewing and a projector 60 feet away (as the cable routes) for watching movies. All inputs are switched by a Pioneer VSX74 AV receiver so I really didn't need a matrix switch but I didn't see anything else with two outputs and I wanted to eliminate my existing matrix switch. (Again, the two output problem although the Monoprice 4x2 HDMI matrix switch I have, has worked flawlessly for several years. I just didn't like that gigantic thick HDMI cable running through my living room.)

Unfortunately with the new switch if I want to go from, say my watching DirecTV on my TV, to watching a movie on my Blu-Ray player, all I get on my projector is a black screen and if I switch back, I usually get a black screen on my TV as well and somehow it even kills the audio portion from my receiver even though that part doesn't go through the switch.
The only way to get everything back was to reset the switch. (or power cycle everything else.)
I tried putting my old 4x2 switch back in line and run one output to the TV and the other to the HDBase-T switch which helped some, but not much. Any configuration I tried that included the HDBase-T switch had synch problems.
Anyway, the solution I came up with is to have my Logitech remote send a "Reset" signal to the switch any time I switch inputs and/or displays. This solution seems to have solved all my problems.

t may not be elegant, but it works.

I had briefly considered reversing my connections so that the switch controlled all the inputs and the AV receiver would connect to one of the outputs, but that seemed like a gawdawful lot of effort for something that may or may not work.

The IR blasters on the other hand, have utterly defeated me. I can get them to relay a signal exactly ONE time whenever I switch inputs. Then they stop working altogether until the next time I switch. I've tested what I believe to be every possible configuration with no joy.

My AV receiver is in a cupboard below everything else (as is the switch in order to avoid being blinded by the LED's) and I was hoping to use the IR blasters to relay the IR signal from my remote to both the switch and the AV receiver.
Unfortunately, the system apparently can only control units from one end to the other end. Not from one end to the same end.

    Such is life.

Anyway, once I managed to get this thing up and running, it works beautifully.

Thank you for your review! To clarify, you are connecting a Blu-ray player and DirectTV receiver > Pioneer AV receiver > PID 10226 > and outputting to your TV and projector, correct? Also what is the length and gauge of the HDMI cables in use? Are the HDMI cables 24 AWG?

From what you describe, it appears to be an issue with how the switch and cable receives the EDID information from the displays and establishes a handshake. Keep in mind the more devices between a source device and display, the less likely the signal will pass through properly, or at all. For this reason we do not recommend connecting receivers to other switches as this will oftentimes cause handshaking issues and will likely not pass signals.

I would recommend connecting your devices directly to the switch, and outputting from the switch to your displays and outputting the audio from the switch as well, as you have previously considered.

Regarding the IR blasters, can you verify that the switch on the IR adapter is set to "IR" rather than "CEC"?

I apologize for the trouble you have experienced. Please let me know if there is an improvement with the above steps. Hope this helps!

Pros: If it worked consistently and with my devices the price would be a pro. HDMI Output works.

Cons: Some sources don't work on the HDbaseT output

No picture on two sources on the HDbaseT output. I've tried all the output resolutions and many different interconnect cables that I've verified as working. I've spent many hours troubleshooting and have finally given up.
