HDBaseT™ Extender Kit

Monoprice is a proud member of the HDBaseT Alliance

Extend your HDMI® audio/video signal to distances up to 328 feet using a single Cat6 cable with this HDBaseT™ Extender from Monoprice!

This Extender uses a new technology, which allows for a full bandwidth 10.2Gbps data throughput over a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable. The full 10.2Gbps bandwidth means that it supports all High Speed HDMI functions, including all HDMI 3D video modes, the extended 4K cinema resolution, 32-bit Deep Color, and high-definition compressed lossless audio, such as DTS-HD Master Audio™ and Dolby TrueHD™.

The extender features a built-in, bidirectional infrared (IR) signal extender, which allows you to remotely control devices at the source or destination end of the connection. For example, normal operation would allow control of the source blu-ray player from the remote TV location.

Additionally, the extender is capable of transmitting a full-duplex 100Mbps local area network connection alongside the HDMI and IR signals. Each extender unit has two RJ45 LAN jacks. As long as one of the four jacks is connected to the network, the other three will propagate the network connection. This allows you to wire another room for HDMI video, IR remote control repeating, and full internet access, using only a single Cat6 cable!

Note: While this extender will function using unshielded Cat5e cabling, we recommend the use of shielded Cat6 cabling for greater reliability over longer distances. Also note that any cable run through the walls must be rated for in-wall installations.

  • Extends HDMI signals up to 328 feet (100 meters) using a single Cat6 cable
  • Extends 100Base-TX network connectivity along with the HDMI video
  • Can be daisy chained up to six units deep
  • Built-in bidirectional IR repeater
  • Supports all High Speed HDMI functions, including 3D video

Note: Monoprice strongly recommends using 22AWG, 24AWG, or active HDMI cables with Redmere technology to achieve the best results and to ensure minimum signal loss over longer distances.

Didn't work at all, even though other extenders did. Paid more. Got less. Sending it back.

Fantastic, with limits

Pros: Plug and Play. Excellent Quality. All issues have been due to other devices. It Just Works.

Cons: IR Frequency bands cover all of my typical devices, but not a Motorola (CenturyLink Prism) Set Top Box, which has ultra-high freq IR :(

This box is quite future-proof, and covers all of our needs today. In our new home, we wanted to be able to tuck our video devices away in a corner of the living room, but move the LCD screen anywhere in the house.

Result: Success! It Just Works.

Some clues to success:
- While our home is wired for Cat 6 (and Cat 5e should also work), I was initially frustrated that nothing worked... until I realized that my patch cables (from the IR box to the wall) were still old Cat 5. Changed those out and BOOM. All is well.
- I wasn't sure what was or was not working with respect to IR. How to tell? A clue: using your smart phone camera, watch the transmission end on a remote control it will blink nice and bright when you push a button, if it is working. Then aim the remote at the IR receiver on the extender, and watch the IR blaster (transmitter) with your smart phone. If the extender is passing on the IR, you'll see the bright blink there as well.
- Once I knew that 3 of 4 of my remotes (Mediasonic tuner, Panasonic Blu Ray/DVD, Sony receiver) worked fine, but the CenturyLink Prism/Motorola remote did not, then everything made sense.

Now I just have one more question: where is a three-way IR blaster expander compatible with this unit?

by Monoprice Administrator
Hello MrPetye,

Thank you for your review! Unfortunately we would not carry a 3 way IR blaster expander. The extender will only support Single Band IR, so if you were to locate such an IR blaster that was Single Band it should work fine with it. I would recommend searching an online retailer or a local electronics store. Also, I would recommend referencing the user manuals or contacting the manufacturers of your devices to see if they use Single Band or Dual Band IR. I hope this helps! Should you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us!

Pros: Hooked it up and it Picture and sound came up immediately. Good picture.

Cons: IR is not working with Uverse STB. I believe that Uverse has dual band frequency IR, not sure if this unit will transmit that range of frequency.

Great picture and easy set up. IR transmitter not working with Uverse.

Hi Dgale,

Thank you for your review on PID 10225. It's great to hear that you have been satisfied with the ease of setup and picture quality of this HDBaseT extender kit. Regarding IR, unfortunately this kit is not compatible with dual band IR. It is only capable of extending single band IR frequencies. I truly apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and I hope this clears up the issue a bit. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us!

Thank you for your review. We do warrant this one with a 1 year warranty so it appears you are still within it. If you have tried all troubleshooting possibilities, did you want to try a replacement to see if it'll work better? Please let me know, thank you!

Pros: Works very well over a single Cat6 cable

Cons: Sensitive to bumps and brownouts

These extenders from Monoprice work very well until there's a power brownout, outage, or surge - even if you use a power strip with surge suppression. I have one set that no longer links at all and another that works most of the time. Unfortunately both pair are out of warranty. All my other A/V equipment, game consoles, and televisions plugged into the same power strips survived without a problem.
