    HDBaseT™ Extender Kit

Monoprice is a proud member of the HDBaseT Alliance

Extend your HDMI® audio/video signal to distances up to 328 feet using a single Cat6 cable with this HDBaseT™ Extender from Monoprice!

This Extender uses a new technology, which allows for a full bandwidth 10.2Gbps data throughput over a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable. The full 10.2Gbps bandwidth means that it supports all High Speed HDMI functions, including all HDMI 3D video modes, the extended 4K cinema resolution, 32-bit Deep Color, and high-definition compressed lossless audio, such as DTS-HD Master Audio™ and Dolby TrueHD™.

The extender features a built-in, bidirectional infrared (IR) signal extender, which allows you to remotely control devices at the source or destination end of the connection. For example, normal operation would allow control of the source blu-ray player from the remote TV location.

Additionally, the extender is capable of transmitting a full-duplex 100Mbps local area network connection alongside the HDMI and IR signals. Each extender unit has two RJ45 LAN jacks. As long as one of the four jacks is connected to the network, the other three will propagate the network connection. This allows you to wire another room for HDMI video, IR remote control repeating, and full internet access, using only a single Cat6 cable!

Note: While this extender will function using unshielded Cat5e cabling, we recommend the use of shielded Cat6 cabling for greater reliability over longer distances. Also note that any cable run through the walls must be rated for in-wall installations.

    • Extends HDMI signals up to 328 feet (100 meters) using a single Cat6 cable
    • Extends 100Base-TX network connectivity along with the HDMI video
    • Can be daisy chained up to six units deep
    • Built-in bidirectional IR repeater
    • Supports all High Speed HDMI functions, including 3D video

Note: Monoprice strongly recommends using 22AWG, 24AWG, or active HDMI cables with Redmere technology to achieve the best results and to ensure minimum signal loss over longer distances.

    High Failure Rate

Pros: Small, works as advertised (so long as it is working). Relatively inexpensive.

    Cons: Extremely high failure rate.

I have acquired 3 of these devices over the last 6 months for my business. One was dead within 1 month. The second was dead within 6 months. 2/3rds failure rate within 6 months does not appear to be acceptable for high end electronic equipment unfortunately. Currently sitting on an interminable hold on the company's help line, hopefully the company will provide a replacement that works.

They work for a while then the reciever module fails

I bought 3 sets or these and while they work they are great. After a while the receiver module fails. I currently only have 1 working receiver module left from the 3 sets. All the extender transmitter modules still work. Monoprice should stop selling these as they will fail and if your lucky they will fail prior to 1 year. Who wants a solution that won't work for years when spending this much money. I paid 200 or more per set back when I purchased 3 sets.

Works well, but could consume less power.

    Pros: - Works as advertised!
    - Great quality
    - No (to me) discernible lag

Cons: - Power use (8w total between sender and receiver)
    - Does not forward USB connectivity

Plug everything in and it just works as advertised. Great quality, and no problems.

Between the sender and the receiver it they consume about 8W total, regardless of whether a signal is being transmitted or not. This is a little bit of a bummer, as one of the reasons I wanted to use this kit was to save power, over having a dedicated HTPC near my TV, and my HTPC (a hacked Asus Chromebox) only uses between 8 at 12W in total at the wall when streaming video, and significantly less when idle.

Some recommendations for the next generation of this device:
    - Work on reducing power consumption
    - Integrate some sort of USB forwarding as well. Would be nice to not have to use a separate USB extender.
    - POE maybe? No reason you should have to have a separate AC adapter on each end.

    Dead out of the box

The piece was dead right out of the box. Found out after I installed it in the ceiling and ran all wiring. Took it down and tested it with short cables, no response. I guess if you get a good one they're great as the other reviews say, this is what led me to purchase as well. I def got a dud.

    Hi Jonas,

I am truly sorry to hear that this HDBaseT extender kit isn't working. If I may ask, do any of the LEDs light up when everything is connected? If so, which LEDs are they and are they solid or blinking? What devices is the extender kit connected to? Have you tested this setup with any other source devices (cable box, Bluray player, gaming console, etc.) just to see if the issue persisted? Also, just to verify, are the HDMI cables in this order (10ft and 3ft) being used with the setup? Please let me know so we can best look into this matter. My apologies again for the trouble and thank you for your feedback.

I took it out of the install and tested it with extremely short cables connected to a laptop via hdmi. Power lights on both boxes solid but nothing else.

Thank you for your reply. Just so I can get a better idea of the full setup here, can you clarify for me if the extender is connected directly between the laptop and a display or is there another device in use such as an AV receiver, splitter, or switch? Are the HDMI cables on this order the ones that were tried with the extender? Also, is the mode light coming on whatsoever? It should be blinking on the extender unit even if the HDMI cable or the receiver isn't being detected.

The one light is coming on but no link lights. I tried a few different HDMI cables as I thought it might be the problem. It was all direct. HDMI out of the laptop right into the Extender. No other components inline.

Got it. Unfortunately, it does appear as though you have received a defective kit at this point. I see that you already have an RMA for a replacement in progress. As soon as you have received the new extender kit and have had a chance to try it out, please keep us updated through this review. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any questions about the RMA or if there is anything else that I can assist you with at this time, please feel free to let me know!
